In Thailand, the government has swept Swine Flu under the rug so the upcoming tourist season doesn't take a hit. It was on the front page of all the papers for a while until the government put a gag order on the media and would not let them report on Swine Flu unless it was cleared by the government first. Strangely, that was the last we heard of Swine Fly over here. :helpme There will be no martial law, no quarantine, no hassle. Some people will die, some won't, and that will be that.

I came back to the USA from Asia during the SARS nonsense a few years back. I had the flu pretty bad, so went to the hospital in Cincinnati. As soon as I told them I just returned from Asia, I was instantly quarantined for 10 days. Freedom baby! Turned out I had the flu (and pink eye), but they held me anyway, "just in case."

Some of you live in a dream world if you think the powers that be won't lock you down should ANY problem get out of hand. If H1N1 becomes too big an issue, they will implement martial law for "the safety of the people." This you can count on. However, what will be interesting is, if a H1N1 disaster (with martial law) will coincidentally happen at the same time, or right before, a total failure of the US Banking system, which some experts say is coming. This would stop bank runs and total chaos from happening due to the collapse. I'm not saying I think this will happen, but I am saying, if it does, I could see it happening around the same time, for the sake of convenience. It just seems too many things are happing at the same time to be a coincidence. :2 cents:

Most of the Anti Obama people have not mentioned that the "war on terror" was ended. There can not be a war on a tactic and Obama recognised that.

lol. Obama has more troops in Iraq and Afghanistan than Bush ever did. And now has 40,000 on order for US soil. He just changed the name of the war. Hell Pakistan is turning into the next Iraq/Afghanistan. I imagine we'll be seeing Iran shortly as well.

I did not say he ended any conflicts. He also has yet to decide if we will add or subtract troops.

Having a so called war on terror was just idiotic any way you look at it. Having the assorted color coded alert levels was also idiotic.

Troop levels are currently set as they are right now because the military requested them earlier on. He also said he was getting more advice before committing more to Afghanistan in the near future or if we should scale it back to more specialized units and get their forces more in line with self protection.

We all know our real concern in Pakistan. That is what makes the whole conflict down there confusing and of real concern at the same time. Everyone clearly knows India will not stand for Pakistan to go to the fringe political parties.


Quick PS - troop levels are one thing. The fucking contractors are another matter and they piss me off.

You're right they were on order prior to Obama but he has so far increased those levels by another 13,000. As far as the private contractors the soldiers that were pulled out where replaced with more private contractors than what was pulled out.

The seriousness isn't legit. They are fudging the numbers.

I was actually having a conversation about this just the other day. It seems that the "war on terror" is played out and coming to a close or at the very least slowing down and the gap needs to be filled with a new fear. Swine Flu.

Now go back to 1997. We had a fairly uneventful 6 years since the end of Desert Storm other than the WTC bombings in 1993. The same year they convicted the final suspects, 1997, the Avian Flu scare came out which turned out to be nothing.

Then a mere 4 years later 9/11 happens, 2001. The "war on terror" began. Add in a touch of SARS in 2003 and 2004. The "war on terror" no slowing down and... hello dolly! Here comes the swine flu to keep the populace in panic or fear. Again.

It just seems odd that every few years something ALWAYS pops up to put everyone in the world on edge or in fear.
