Fucking good job too. Never have had any time for thieves. But...be realistic here and use a little intelligence. It's not 1 million lost sales, not even close. A good chunk probably would have bought if they could not pirate, but to think it's all 1 million of them is at best dumb.

woj 11-12-2009 09:50 PM

It all sounds great, lets cheer MS on for banning the thieves... but really like TheDoc said, not only are they out of $7million/month now, they also now have 1 more million microsoft haters walking around...

L-Pink 11-12-2009 09:54 PM

Gotta sometimes take a stand in what you believe not what makes you money. Nice to see a corporation take a stand.

Iron Fist 11-12-2009 10:43 PM

Wonder how many basement dweller suicide emo gamers will go out and kill themselves over this, and then we can have the parents of those idiots proclaim that Microsoft should of never banned them at all.

A million? Oh there's gotta be one or two out there that will do it...

SarahLLO 11-13-2009 02:57 AM

only reason i would ever mod a console is to be able to play a foreign game or use a language patch...

...which i might have to do to my ds so i can get the english patch some dude is working on for tales of innocence, i bought the game already...

i'm afraid i'll screw it up though =/

Good riddance :thumbsup
Pretty funny to see some who cry about tubes are now criticizing Microsoft :1orglaugh
The argument that Microsoft makes tons of money so it's OK to pirate their game is non sense. Too bad Microsoft won't sue them all, that would certainly send a strong message to people that piracy is not OK!!!

CaptainHowdy 11-13-2009 06:58 AM

Question is... does tube have anything to do with this?

Yup! Agree with all of that... :2 cents::thumbsup

ShellyCrash 11-13-2009 07:07 AM

I have a handful of friends in the video game industry. Some of my friends over at EA in Orlando got laid off this past Monday. It really sucks for them because the market for that trade is already so oversaturated.

EA is trying to diversify to save it's ass, announced it's buying PlayFish the same day they did their massive layoff. The way things are though, even if the company can turn itself back around, they will just scoop fresh kids out of college and pay them dirt before they bring back anyone w/ experience.

Jakez 11-13-2009 07:38 AM

To download pirated music and movies, whether streaming, torrents, or whatever is one thing. But I have no sympathy for people that go so far out of their way to void warranties on their RROD prone xbox's by modding the inside, then download huge game rips and rip them somehow, THEN connect to xbox live knowing their shit is modded and have a huge chance of being banned, just to play something a few days before everyone.. I guess it's just easy for them.

Odd, I didn't see anyone support piracy in this thread....

...and not all 1 million accounts were pirated, MANY were cheats. And MS has no idea if someone purchased a game, got it as a gift, or found it on the side of the rode - then made a copy, mod, etc... that is not illegal - but against the rules.

Not that our Industry would understand the actual Copyright law, most actually think the tubes are "illegal."

Game piracy is just time shifting. :)

Good, Microsoft has the right to.

TheDoc 11-13-2009 08:35 AM

So... here is what MS had "WITH" the piracy..

1 million X $7 a month = $7,000,000 X 12 = $84 Million a year being made from pirates.

So making $84 million a year on Piracy... brilliant! (and they can and do, buy more games, because they can play)

After they did this... $0 made, $0 profit, $0 after the next day..... and a million pissed off people trashing you. What idiots...

Please go back to support MS, giving you crappy OS's full of bugs, virus, shit that has cost you time and money, just to release an upgraded to OS, at a crazy rate, that you must get, because they stopped supporting the old shit.. and you all know you have lost important data, that they don't give a shit about, they collected already.. and that's just the OS.

MS can suck a nut.... I hope people pirate them to death.

Denaz 11-13-2009 08:35 AM

Look heres how i see it, my xbox was one of the million banned and i don't really care. I'm a PC gamer and i have a PS3 also and ive never minded paying for quality games. ( brutal legend, CoD, killzone, borderlands, Mass effect, dragon age, etc.) I mostly play on PC and most if not all of my games are bought through steam.
Im not angry i got banned cause im not a retard and know modding it was wrong, but at the same time ive fixed my own xbox a few times from the red rings that Microsoft refused to help me with, had Microsoft continue billing me months after i called in to cancel, as well as confirming it online, and frankly xbox live is only as popular as the fan boys obsessed with it make it. Live was just a novelty that came with my game console. I'll probably miss it every now and then but again with world of warcraft, borderlands, and all the other games I've paid for on my pc or ps3 i could care less. My xbox is still an xbox and the only thing lacking is live, And frankly if online is all the xbox has going for it , i dont see myself going nuts about it.
Im sorry but theres nothing better than a PC multi player experience. again im not bashing xbox, what they did is what they did, and im not gonna be pissed or whiny over it, (after all my xbox still works fine with the exception of banned from live). what does bother me are people who are upset their consoles can no longer connect to live. they knew the risks when they did it as did I. I payed for many 360 games and ive only burned a handful of games, some of which i had already owned and traded in to buy new games. Would i do it again? probably not. Never really been a big fan of xbox though, so i don't see myself slamming my face on a wall because live was such a huge part of my life, but in the end it's like i said earlier your xbox's still work, so stop crying like microsoft fried the cpu and gpu in your consoles remotely. watch your DvD's, play your purchased or burned games, and if you really need xbox live to get your dick hard, feel free to buy another console for online only, it sonly $200 now. :2 cents:

Dang, $15kish in games... that's crazy. Sounds like MS should be giving you Live for free.

So you had some xbox issues, they wouldn't help, they kept billing you, so you fixed it yourself? Nice...

Did they happen to issue you a refund when they dropped the SUPER over priced xbox down to the over priced amount of $200?

lol no, but i don't see myself buying another one. The 360 is very easy to fix, you can do a little research and probably buy one from online or someone who has the 3 red rings cheap ( seen them on craigs list for 40-90 dollars) and fix it yourself. total cost for fixing an xbox 360 overheating issue = about 15 dollars ( 8 screws, 16 washer, thermal paste) and half an hour of time.

I've never played anything online before... What pisses me off is I can no longer buy stuff from the marketplace (which is the only thing I used xblive for), like fallout expansion packs and rock band songs. I noticed I can't play any demos I downloaded anymore either...

Kinda sucks, I paid 70% more than most of you for my xbox thanks to the luxury tax, and they come modded right from the store.

So MS should be pirated because they do not support people that pirate the software that people write to their consoles ? What kind of message would that send ?
MS is sending out a anti piracy message and your logic say they are the bad guys ?
I'm sure that's sending out a nice message to your clients when you are making money out of electronic services, that's like authorizing people to pirate and hack your shit, but hey you'll continue working for them as they are still paying :2 cents:

So just above my "MS can suck a nut...." statement, I talked about MS creating crap software that has been screwing people over and ripping customers off from day one....

... and you some how got out of that, that I think MS should be pirated because of the console?

Really?

They should be pirated because they deserve it.... straight up. Even the guy in this thread, MS screwed him over..First, it's not the other way around... they should be pirated.

You people need to wake the hell up and get off the piracy crack pipe. You guys are suckin on some big MS cock here, and we all know MS is a pile of shit.

The people who steal games are usually little shitheads. I've heard them talking many, many times about their modded consoles. They almost always talk like wiggers and then get shitty with you during games. It's better to not have those people fucking up my limited gaming time. Good riddance.

No I commented on "I hope people pirate them to death."
And again "They should be pirated because they deserve it"
So basically since YOU think that their software is shit it should pirated ? Or based on your judgment their customer care makes it right to pirate them ?
It's like saying: I don't like BBW / FAT porn, so they fat hoes should be pirated, they are not worth the value people is paying for it, what a ripoff!

I'm pretty satisfied with my MS products, they may not be perfect but they beat the competitors at this moment (Mac, Linux/Unix) with the usability and programs available that suit my needs. So I'll continue using it and I'll continue to pump money into the pockets of MS. :upsidedow

Ohh and I migratede just perfect from Windows 2000 to XP to Vista to XP to Vista 64 bit to Windows 7 to Windows 7 without loosing data so have no clue what you are talking about. With your "and you all know you have lost important data, that they don't give a shit about"

Have a nice weekend anyway, I'm out to shop for a new MS based laptop :thumbsup

How lame.. pretending as if MS products aren't piles of crap, that millions people weren't forced to upgraded from perfect systems, to a buggy, to broken vista, to windows 7... need a super computer now too, MS can suck balls.

They fuck people over ever day.. they screw other companies over. Acting like MS is the damn church or something.. not fucking you over, so who cares right?

You're paying for broken, buggy, hackable, virus ridden, hole, trashed software... over and over and over...

I purchased 2000 which is the best of them and XP, which is in the trash... I'm not giving them anymore money for this scam.

Now to force you to pay, they won't upgrade win2k or XP anymore, so all the security holes will eat people alive, forcing them to spend money, yet once again.

So yeah... I have no problem fucking someone over, company or not, that already fucked me over, several several several times.... Just like every other person reading this, including you.

But they aren't screwing me anymore, I have already started to make the full switch to Ubuntu, and I'm not looking back. It kicks Windows ass.

You do realize revenue tells you absolutely zilch about how much a company is
making or losing, right? $16B in revenue against $18B in expenses means you
lost $2 billion. $16B in revenue against $12B expenses would mean you made
$4B. There's a big difference. Of course, either way that's the total earnings
of all stockholders combined. Each stockholder made something like 40 cents
on their investment. I guess that increases my mom's retirement account enough
that she can buy one serving of ramen noodles.

Since you want to look at the second quarter of 2009, Microsoft also had to lay off
5,000 people in those three months. How many of those people could have kept
their jobs if it weren't for thieving bastards who refuse to pay for their work?

Anyone who has read any of my posts knows I'm no fan of Microsoft. I haven't
used any of their products in over ten years. I don't buy Microsoft products because
I much prefer reliable, secure systems, and because Microsoft is basically evil, but
I don't steal from them because I'm not evil.

Assuming, Sony doesn't screw millions of people over every couple of years.

Either way, I still find what MS did to be stupid business wise. It's millions in lost revenue. Not just in the monthly subscriptions but in the future purchases of live games, and it's a million more people talking trash about you.

Why not take the $80+ million a year the pirates made and invest it in better security, like many online games use. Then tell them to go stick it.

If they wanted to stop 99% of the piracy... they could, just like adult could.

That's a horrible idea. No matter what they spend hackers will always crack it, they know that based on history with every conceivable platform/system/software ever developed. They did the right thing, ban players that were pirating games.

People who are cheap - Get the message, they won't fuck around and try to modify their consoles in order to play burned games.

People who love the games but got banned - Got the message and will likely buy a legit copy

People who are infuriated - Deserve it, fuck them, they aren't entitled to anything

I think their honest paying customers that don't cheat and pirate games will appreciate it and keep their subscriptions longer. And many of the clowns that got banned will get another console and resubscribe, those numbers are not right. Besides that it was the right thing to do, sends a message to people trying to pirate their games. Sony will follow suit. I'm not a MS fan but this was a good move.

i've got a sony 65" wega tele, it crapped out due to a design flaw and it took a class-action lawsuit against sony to get them to fix all our teles.

i've got a sony vaio laptop i paid ~$3500 for that crapped out prematurely as well, the screen, the battery, the touchpad and keyboard all went kaput.

People who are cheap - Get the message, they won't fuck around and try to modify their consoles in order to play burned games.

People who love the games but got banned - Got the message and will likely buy a legit copy

People who are infuriated - Deserve it, fuck them, they aren't entitled to anything

Not all games can be cracked and played online... that's crazy talk to think they can't protect something you have to log into.

Hardcore gamers crack games, not broke bitch kids that borrow money from mom. People didn't go out and purchase a $200-$400 console, just to pay $7 a month + fees, to only play... one cracked game.. No no, these are people spending $1000's on games, they are valuable clients and customers...

Btw... this is a GREAT example of how Piracy makes money.. that pirates, spend money.

This piracy was making them $84m a year. The only needed like 6 months of rebills to earn the money back from the game. Or they could have increased the monthly rates on those people just by a few dollars would have banked them far more.

The only reason you people don't see this is because you're blinded by piracy in our Industry. 3 years ago 99% of you would be singing a different song. I remember the 'pirated windows' thread...

That's what you should do on a big ticket item like that. Nice job.

Warranty didn't cover that laptop? If they did ya wrong don't buy Sony again. We aren't forced to buy broken Sony computers and then forced to pay for another upgraded to to another broken Sony Computer, year after year.

Basically you purchased the same basic computer everyone else is selling but it has a Sony tag on it.

I don't trust branded computers... had far too many issues with various brands, so I started building my own, even my laptops. I recommend going that direction, saves ya a ton of money and issues.
