I say good for Microsoft

Exactly right.

That makes my point above even more... now they don't have the $5 a month, and now the people really have no reason to buy another game. So they lost two times over... again, it was a really stupid move.

They kill it on the consoles, profit wise, they just sell more games and printed dvd, costs far less than a console, so the profits are massive.

You can call up manufacture in China, send your drafts and get cable, dvr, dvd, reader/writer boxes on a custom design, with a tv on it, to sell on the market for like $20 each, including shipping.

Those flat screens we pay $5k-$10k for, they cost like $200.

suesheboy 11-12-2009 05:23 PM

guess what? These will end up on Ebay - tons of them!

d-null 11-12-2009 05:25 PM

I might go out and buy an xbox 360 now, hate online games that are hacked modded or cheated, and at least this shows they are trying to keep things in control.

I guess cable companies should stop trying to prevent illegal cable theft just in case the person might have subscribed at some point in the future. Oh yeah, big movie studios should stop trying to prevent those recording new films with camcorders and putting them on the internet as well. They might not buy another DVD from that company in the future either.

You're example doesn't relate in anyway.

The people purchased an over priced xbox, then they were playing monthly for the online service and they have all purchased many over priced crappy games...

...the pirated part comes from the game, as I was informed.

These people WERE customers, paying customers.. and got cut off. It's really simple, like smash your head into a wall simple.

MS was stupid to doing this.... now the people are gone and so is the income.

That's too much for a stupid game. I got Zelda for a wii a couple of days ago and just noticed I pad $50+taxes for that. That's a serious ripoff, I wouldn't have spend more than $20-$25 if I had seen that in the store..:Oh crap

Fucking good job too. Never have had any time for thieves. But...be realistic here and use a little intelligence. It's not 1 million lost sales, not even close. A good chunk probably would have bought if they could not pirate, but to think it's all 1 million of them is at best dumb.

woj 11-12-2009 09:50 PM

It all sounds great, lets cheer MS on for banning the thieves... but really like TheDoc said, not only are they out of $7million/month now, they also now have 1 more million microsoft haters walking around...

L-Pink 11-12-2009 09:54 PM

Gotta sometimes take a stand in what you believe not what makes you money. Nice to see a corporation take a stand.

Wonder how many basement dweller suicide emo gamers will go out and kill themselves over this, and then we can have the parents of those idiots proclaim that Microsoft should of never banned them at all.

A million? Oh there's gotta be one or two out there that will do it...

SarahLLO 11-13-2009 02:57 AM

only reason i would ever mod a console is to be able to play a foreign game or use a language patch...

...which i might have to do to my ds so i can get the english patch some dude is working on for tales of innocence, i bought the game already...

i'm afraid i'll screw it up though =/

Pretty funny to see some who cry about tubes are now criticizing Microsoft :1orglaugh
The argument that Microsoft makes tons of money so it's OK to pirate their game is non sense. Too bad Microsoft won't sue them all, that would certainly send a strong message to people that piracy is not OK!!!

CaptainHowdy 11-13-2009 06:58 AM

Question is... does tube have anything to do with this?

Yup! Agree with all of that... :2 cents::thumbsup

ShellyCrash 11-13-2009 07:07 AM

I have a handful of friends in the video game industry. Some of my friends over at EA in Orlando got laid off this past Monday. It really sucks for them because the market for that trade is already so oversaturated.

EA is trying to diversify to save it's ass, announced it's buying PlayFish the same day they did their massive layoff. The way things are though, even if the company can turn itself back around, they will just scoop fresh kids out of college and pay them dirt before they bring back anyone w/ experience.

Jakez 11-13-2009 07:38 AM

To download pirated music and movies, whether streaming, torrents, or whatever is one thing. But I have no sympathy for people that go so far out of their way to void warranties on their RROD prone xbox's by modding the inside, then download huge game rips and rip them somehow, THEN connect to xbox live knowing their shit is modded and have a huge chance of being banned, just to play something a few days before everyone.. I guess it's just easy for them.

Odd, I didn't see anyone support piracy in this thread....

...and not all 1 million accounts were pirated, MANY were cheats. And MS has no idea if someone purchased a game, got it as a gift, or found it on the side of the rode - then made a copy, mod, etc... that is not illegal - but against the rules.

Not that our Industry would understand the actual Copyright law, most actually think the tubes are "illegal."

Game piracy is just time shifting. :)

seeandsee 11-13-2009 08:18 AM

sweet shot

NetHorse 11-13-2009 08:34 AM

Good, Microsoft has the right to.

TheDoc 11-13-2009 08:35 AM

So... here is what MS had "WITH" the piracy..

1 million X $7 a month = $7,000,000 X 12 = $84 Million a year being made from pirates.

So making $84 million a year on Piracy... brilliant! (and they can and do, buy more games, because they can play)

After they did this... $0 made, $0 profit, $0 after the next day..... and a million pissed off people trashing you. What idiots...

Please go back to support MS, giving you crappy OS's full of bugs, virus, shit that has cost you time and money, just to release an upgraded to OS, at a crazy rate, that you must get, because they stopped supporting the old shit.. and you all know you have lost important data, that they don't give a shit about, they collected already.. and that's just the OS.

MS can suck a nut.... I hope people pirate them to death.

Look heres how i see it, my xbox was one of the million banned and i don't really care. I'm a PC gamer and i have a PS3 also and ive never minded paying for quality games. ( brutal legend, CoD, killzone, borderlands, Mass effect, dragon age, etc.) I mostly play on PC and most if not all of my games are bought through steam.
Im not angry i got banned cause im not a retard and know modding it was wrong, but at the same time ive fixed my own xbox a few times from the red rings that Microsoft refused to help me with, had Microsoft continue billing me months after i called in to cancel, as well as confirming it online, and frankly xbox live is only as popular as the fan boys obsessed with it make it. Live was just a novelty that came with my game console. I'll probably miss it every now and then but again with world of warcraft, borderlands, and all the other games I've paid for on my pc or ps3 i could care less. My xbox is still an xbox and the only thing lacking is live, And frankly if online is all the xbox has going for it , i dont see myself going nuts about it.
Im sorry but theres nothing better than a PC multi player experience. again im not bashing xbox, what they did is what they did, and im not gonna be pissed or whiny over it, (after all my xbox still works fine with the exception of banned from live). what does bother me are people who are upset their consoles can no longer connect to live. they knew the risks when they did it as did I. I payed for many 360 games and ive only burned a handful of games, some of which i had already owned and traded in to buy new games. Would i do it again? probably not. Never really been a big fan of xbox though, so i don't see myself slamming my face on a wall because live was such a huge part of my life, but in the end it's like i said earlier your xbox's still work, so stop crying like microsoft fried the cpu and gpu in your consoles remotely. watch your DvD's, play your purchased or burned games, and if you really need xbox live to get your dick hard, feel free to buy another console for online only, it sonly $200 now. :2 cents:

Dang, $15kish in games... that's crazy. Sounds like MS should be giving you Live for free.

So you had some xbox issues, they wouldn't help, they kept billing you, so you fixed it yourself? Nice...

Did they happen to issue you a refund when they dropped the SUPER over priced xbox down to the over priced amount of $200?

lol no, but i don't see myself buying another one. The 360 is very easy to fix, you can do a little research and probably buy one from online or someone who has the 3 red rings cheap ( seen them on craigs list for 40-90 dollars) and fix it yourself. total cost for fixing an xbox 360 overheating issue = about 15 dollars ( 8 screws, 16 washer, thermal paste) and half an hour of time.

I've never played anything online before... What pisses me off is I can no longer buy stuff from the marketplace (which is the only thing I used xblive for), like fallout expansion packs and rock band songs. I noticed I can't play any demos I downloaded anymore either...

Kinda sucks, I paid 70% more than most of you for my xbox thanks to the luxury tax, and they come modded right from the store.

So MS should be pirated because they do not support people that pirate the software that people write to their consoles ? What kind of message would that send ?
MS is sending out a anti piracy message and your logic say they are the bad guys ?
I'm sure that's sending out a nice message to your clients when you are making money out of electronic services, that's like authorizing people to pirate and hack your shit, but hey you'll continue working for them as they are still paying :2 cents:

So just above my "MS can suck a nut...." statement, I talked about MS creating crap software that has been screwing people over and ripping customers off from day one....

... and you some how got out of that, that I think MS should be pirated because of the console?

Really?

They should be pirated because they deserve it.... straight up. Even the guy in this thread, MS screwed him over..First, it's not the other way around... they should be pirated.

You people need to wake the hell up and get off the piracy crack pipe. You guys are suckin on some big MS cock here, and we all know MS is a pile of shit.
