Get a real TV and it won't be a problem :thumbsup
"One additional point of note: The new rules currently don't apply to very large TVs, those of 1,400 square inches or larger (roughly a 58" set), although rules are likely to be enacted against these ultra-large sets in the second phase of this legislation." |

Plasma sucks way to much energy. the new "led-lcd" take alot less power then the current lcds and soon we will have the oleds which will be better. This is a good law. it will help cut back on peoples power bills and rightfully so. Here in florida they are increasing our rates by 25% thats a bit bullshit i think. i will have to pay an extra grand a year for power pretty soon. I sure could use that for a mortgage payment in these tough times. I stand by the terminator on this one. |
damn that really sucks glad I am no longer there! I like my big ass TV

Im pretty sure you can have a big tv. Just not a plasma tv because they are power suckers. Not that it matters, as in an earlier post, plasma is a dying breed. their sales are sharply down as lcd has taken over. Thats ok, im sure when my huge 42 in plasma goes out, that i will be able to get an oled or that 3d tv that is out by mitsubishi. that looks cool too.

I want an LED!

california has always been on the forefront on the country with cleaner and healthier living, i am fine with these laws..
there is also a law that california power companies must generate 20% of their power from renewable energy by 2020 or 2030... i think it is great. |
Well I know it sucks, but don't you guys already have rolling black outs because of power shortages or have they fixed that? Simply put if you don't have thew power to run the shit you have, well then you either need more power or less power usage.
Maybe TV's aren't the best place to start, but they do have to start somewhere.. |

We all live on the same planet Earth and we only have 1! I admit I ddnt read the article I'm about to run out the door, but I can think of so many energy AND WATER wasters in California or the US that was can focus on other than TV sets..hmmm |
If GFY is in any way representative of how little research people (in general) do when they are fed 'news' by the media about a new law ...you/we are in big trouble.
The thread is funny on many levels but it needs more torches and pitchforks. |
think it's a good idea

i know, but the majority of rolling brownouts statistically are primarlily due to the power deal made with enron. |
second page? Iam surprised I thought this discussion was already finished 10 posts ago? Still entertaining...:thumbsup

"Rest assured, this doesn't mean the end of the television as we know it. As the California Energy Commission notes, as of now, over 1,000 televisions already meet the 2011 standards, so many manufacturers won't have to panic in order to comply with the regulations, at least for now. "
yeah but i still think it's a wrong way of cutting cost |
Good thing I'm not in CA, just got a Panasonic V10 65"... they say it's one of the least power hungry plasmas, but I think it still takes 3xx watts on avg...
It's funny it doesn't touch screens bigger than 58" though... |

Please show me where it is a law or even proposed law where you have to buy health insutrance or go to jail. Please show me where it's a law you can't buy a big screen TV. Please show me the law where porn is restricted on the internet. LINKS or you are gay. I just love how ignorant people think because some ONE person PROPOSES a law that it sudden turns into "A law was passed". It's amazing how few people know how the process of passing law gets done. At least 95% of ideas that get PROPOSED get killed off in commitee most of those that do get past committee don't get passed either. |

I don't use CFLs because some law told me too or because I feel I'm "saving the planet" I do it because I save money. Over the lifetime of the bulbs they'll save me over $500. I have better things to do with that $500 than to give it to the electric company. Perhaps you don't. |
