Instead of simply writing me (or abuse () seclists org) asking to have
the password list removed, MySpace decided to contact (only) GoDaddy
and try to have the whole site of 250,000 pages removed because they

simply shut down the site rather than actually investigating or giving
me a chance to contest or comply with the complaint.
looks like a good place to keep adult domains... :winkwink:

Yes, it is all cool until it's not then you are fucked.

BaldBastard 11-29-2009 11:38 AM

To me Godaddy is only as good as your account rep, I have had good and bad, current luser is on holiday and I have 100's up for renewal at the moment, had nearly 4k with them once but moved heaps over the years and let even more drop.
Registers are like hosts to me, I like to have lots, Chinas not bad either cnobin.com I still got a heap on NS been meaning to move for years.
Alway had issues transferring domains to Moniker so never used them.

Manowar 11-29-2009 12:22 PM

i use namecheap.

Iron Fist 11-29-2009 01:25 PM

Nothing wrong with GoDaddy....

To be honest... an embarrasing act on myself after they upgraded the domain manager, I thought I was canceling recurring billing on every domain, but what I was actually doing was canceling every domain. Needless to say, I was on the phone in a heartbeat, and they restored everything with no issues, like it never even happened.

I honestly think those people who have such a problem with GoDaddy, were probably fucking around in one way or another and got burned, most likely fake information in the registration. I've never had any problems in the 5+ years I've had domains with them....

As with any of the GoDaddy "horror stories" you have to stop and ask yourself if you could be involved in a similar scenario. In this case, if you are not running a similar hacking site hosting stolen login info, then this story is totally irrelevant to you. Is it not?

SubAms 11-29-2009 05:04 PM

I have about 600 with GoDaddy and a great account rep, T.D., who deals with any query, usually within minutes.
I have them all on auto-renew just in case I miss one but when I get the first renewal notice I'll send my rep an e-mail asking her to bulk renew anything due in the next 3 months at my discounted rate, 1-2$ under the standard rate. If renewals get a bit close my rep will e-mail me as a reminder. Great service! :thumbsup
Been with them about 7 years and never had a problem.

I have most of domains on moniker beacuse its much easier to manage them then on godaddy.Plus if domain expire it still works after one month unlike godaddy where goes to parking page same date on expiration.Plus too many horror stories about godaddy so i don't dare to have too much domains there.

Thanks for some more good points. That expiration point puts me over to Moniker at least to give them a try and begin my transfers. I agree, Direct Nic gives you 30 day buffer too where you still have first rights to reg it and noone else can. So to offset this GD mails you like 12 notices and calls you. fa gat about it. [Edit: the day after Direct Nic also goes to a parking page, but still moniker seems superior here]

GD is just too corporate. Yes there price is low but for 50 cents I eliminate alot of rather inferior ways of doing things, seems to me. And I cant argue with the guy who said he knows 3 guys with over 100,000 names with moniker.

Anyhow, great thread to the OP and thanks very much to everyone who weighed in no matter what side you supported.

Thurbs 11-29-2009 09:01 PM

over 4000 at Moniker ... hit up bari, she makes some great deals and knows what it means to take care of clients.

Vjo 11-29-2009 09:11 PM

Edit continued:Sorry Direct Nic goes to a parking page 30 days after, not the next day, just doesn't resolve the next day.

I have hundreds of domains with Godaddy, and set up a reseller account.

It is dead easy to set up, despite what people make out. Costs you a few hundred from memory to set it up, but I get cheques back several times a year for more than that, so it more than pays for itself.

Never ever had a problem with Godaddy, touch wood.

Thanks CS, So over all do you get a cheaper price than even $7.18 with the reseller acct? Or is that to get around 7.18?

See what I mean, even the price with GD is all over. Should be one price fits all or give a scale like Direct Nic. :)

("No, you just have to call Vinnie on a Saturday night and ask for the special k deal, then you get it for 6.88 plus icann fee minus vinnies cut, let me see he'll call you at 8am with your final price...) LOL

J/k having some fun here. I'm sure GD is fine. :)

I have her as well. Once a month I send her an e-mail listing that months renewals and cancels. She takes care of them no problem. She is my third rep over there and my favorite. I have spoken with several of the other current reps while TD has been away and they have been beyond helpful as well. So it isn't like if your rep goes missing you are up a creek, they are all great.

One time she was out and I called in to get some help with something. The rep I spoke with could not stop laughing at my domains. Was pretty funny.

cheekycherry 11-29-2009 10:05 PM

I can't believe there are still respected names on here recommending GoDaddy.

DON'T use Godaddy... Biggest business mistake you'll ever make IF the problems come to you.

Use namecheap guys and search for some of the many horror stories you'll find about godaddy.

papill0n 11-29-2009 10:11 PM

pussyserver owns the most domains on gfy

PornMD 11-29-2009 10:28 PM

I have about 2,500 or so, most of which are regged at Fabulous.com, some at GoDaddy, some at Moniker, and a couple scattered at other registrars. Fabulous has always been IMO the best for keeping track of a large portfolio.

kmanrox 11-30-2009 02:43 AM

i have 800+ and i use namecheap.. they're good to me

sandman! 11-30-2009 02:50 AM

godaddy fucked me out of a few domains when they took over registerfly accounts fuck them.

Vjo 11-30-2009 03:25 AM

For Dot Coms - Straight Listed Prices

Godaddy - Moniker - Name Cheap

Reg: Transfer: Renewal:
GD 6.99 7.29 to 10.69 (depending on quanity renewed at once)
MN 8.02 8.02 (must prepurchase credits but, starts at only $50.00)
NC 7.99 9.69

---

GoDaddy Renewal:

Qty 1 yr 2 yrs 3 yrs 5 yrs 10 yrs
1-5 10.69 10.69 10.69 10.69 10.69
6-20 8.99 8.99 8.99 8.99 8.99
21-49 8.49 8.49 8.49 8.49 8.49
50-100 7.99 7.99 7.99 7.99 7.99
101-200 7.29 7.29 7.29 7.29 7.29
201-500 7.29 7.29 7.29 7.29 7.29

Not real cheap unless you prepay and renue quite a few at a time, say almost $400 to get the 7.99 rate.
But a real nice transfer price of just 6.99.

Putting this here for later reference. :thumbsup

bbobby86 11-30-2009 03:28 AM

Domain Diva 11-30-2009 03:30 AM

I dont think many people pay standard list price for anything in todays tough markets.

Vjo 11-30-2009 03:50 AM

I'd pay list prices here with Godaddy:

101-200 7.29 7.29 7.29 7.29 7.29

6.99 transfer and 7.29 for I guess $729.00 up front. That is a pretty good deal.

But I hear ya Claire. :)

Nicky 11-30-2009 04:43 AM

I'm not even close to 1k, somewhere around 250 right now but I use a couple of registrars, I like Moniker and Namecheap the best.

SinisterStudios 11-30-2009 04:58 AM

4000 + at moniker and love them, Bari take great care of me.

6.99 (+) icann fee ...Total $7.18 ...No reseller account or upfront fee !! :winkwink:

Vjo 11-30-2009 05:15 AM

Thanks Claire, That applies to transfers and new purchased domains which is about the best price there is.

Will I be able to purchase new domains (.com) at 6.99 + icann fee through this page indefinitely?

Yes it should remain indefinitely ..its about 9 months old now unless of course godaddy or icann have a change of policy. (dont expect that to happen)

Fact is that Godaddy suspended a domain without first contacting the owner.... So if you're running any kind of site, that's a potential problem.

The site that godaddy shut down wasn't a hacking site. It stores archives of posts to mailing lists and is a legit website.

That would be akin to shutting down gfy because someone posted a password list in a post. But if you're not an evil pornographer what do you have to worry about? :1orglaugh

That is why I moved 70+ domains from godaddy a couple years ago and they've lost my business for every domain since then.

Great code, I also found this one when I was away in Japan, and did not have access to my godaddy coupons at home. Yes, wherever I am I search for new domains...It is an addiction like playing Handball for me.

I still have one domain with Network Solutions...and I am terrified to move it. Since they used to give me such a hard time in the late 90's to transfer a domain. I might just register it again for the 10 year max. :2 cents:

I've moved domains from network solutions and it isn't very difficult anymore :2 cents:
