If you drive until 10 or 11 at night you are going to miss so much, it is sad. Seriously. It really is beautiful here and if you haven't been here before, you won't want to miss it.

The total mileage according to Google Maps is around 2000 miles, which is not that bad divide on 10 days time frame.
I'm planning to leave SF on Friday morning (around 5-6am), then go to Yosemite (but will probably avoid that now). Then Death Valley (it can be instead of Yosemite), sleep in the motel for one night. Continue to Vegas. Spend 4 days there (visit Grand Canyon maybe one day... again leaving at around 5-6am so I can get there till 10-11). Then on 23rd come to LA. Chill in there till 27th, eventually go to Disneyland. On 27 morning leave for SF, and if have time stop by Monterey just too make a break and enjoy that beautiful little town. In the evening I'd be in SF again.

Sound good?

Many parts of the Grand Canyon such as the northern rim, are closed this time of year due to snow.

Southern rim is open year round.

Let's start with day one.

You are planning on driving from San Francisco to Death Valley? That is about 550 miles, 9 1/2 hours, taking the fast and most boring route.

Are you planning on moteling it between SF and DV? If so, get off I-5 and go thru Sequoia. Take your time getting to Death Valley. It isn't going anywhere.

Oh, the drive from LA to SF (thru Monterey) is beautiful, but it will take 12 hours, and the best part is up north. You should stay in Big Sur and drive to SF the next day.

beta-tester 12-11-2009 12:26 AM

Yup, exactly that. On the way to DV I'm planning on taking one night off in a motel. What is in Sequoia?

It is the home of the world's largest trees.

beta-tester 12-11-2009 12:30 AM

sorry, i haven't even thought of it :) I know what sequoia is, but didn't know there's a National park too ;) Awesome! I gotta stop by there then... Are there any good motels somewhere around there?

http://www.theriverinn-cabins.com/ looks pretty cool. Probably what I would go for if it was available. A few more here. :)

beta-tester 12-11-2009 12:35 AM

great... i wonder what's the weather gonna look like there in a week or so?

beta-tester 12-11-2009 12:48 AM

:)) I could've done that myself, but I am not sure how accurate those forecasts are :) Looks sunny according to it, tho.

Baddog, so how feasible my plan is now?

baddog 12-11-2009 10:26 AM

Well, I think once you get to Sequoia all your "plans" are going to change, as it should be. The best road trips have minimal schedules. Just drive. When you see something cool, or a sign pointing to something cool, go for it.

When it gets dark, find somewhere to stay, and resume at daylight. Personally, four days in Vegas isn't all that appealing to me. I would use a day in Sequoia so you get to Death Valley on day three (or four).

I am pretty sure that we are. Walker's Cafe, Point Fermin. By out of town guests I mean I might take goodgirl up there, or if I have friends ride into town and they want to go somewhere relatively close.

I would have put up pictures of the place but I can't remember what folder I put them in. This is from across the street.

Hot waitresses too. :winkwink:

I have to admit, I used to think their food was great, but now, not so much.

Maybe because I drank more back then.

You are rather generous with what encompasses LA. :2 cents: And what is so great about the SFV?

haha, yah it's a tie b/w carol and jamie who's hottest. not sure if you know/remember trixie (another uber hottie!) but she's working the camp williams cafe up in the san gabriel mountains, a fun ride up there and back. she's a good cook.

i pretty much stick with the meatloaf, if i eat there, mostly beer though. i'll grab a bag of peanuts to wash it all down eh.
