And unfortunately, anywhere else, tourists or not, the "land of smiles" is often the "land of plastics", "land of electric cables" or the "land of noise"... |
Here is why, in my opinion, Thailand falls very short of being a Paradise. Relationships.
Now I know that might sound crazy. But really, if you are an expat, apart from your girlfriend (if you have one) and her immediate family, how many Thais would you consider real friends? How many would you trust and would count on whatever happened or even have meaningful discussions with? In places equally as poor as Thailand, like Colombia or Cuba, after a couple of months, people will have taken you in like one of theirs. In Thailand you'll always be an alien, on the long term, this has a huge impact on your quality of life. |

You can live like a KING there for cheap. My friend who lives there has a small palace on the beach in Bang Sara. He actually keeps several girls on the payroll to just hang around dressed sexy and topless with high heels on (and yes, they fuck him too). It's insane. Even his maid is sexy and walks around topless. It's one of those dream scenarios. I think he paid 40 million Thai baht for the house and the girls get 15,000 Baht a month. When I die and come back, I want to be him. |

Most of the rich Thais love to send the kids to study abroad like Australia and UK. Their English is good and very cultured. If you do not want to have bad impression about Thai girls, go get a Thai girl who work as a lawyer or some other decent jobs. But most likely you are going to get frustrated for not getting close. We are are only KINGS in bar girls scene :winkwink:...... |
thats the problem i have with moving to new country, meaningful relationships.. yeah you can go to thailand and bang 10x girls a day, but how many TRUE friends will you have that will be there for you?
can you get by on english with friends.. what i mean is down here in panama, you can get some friends who speak english, BUT when you want to hang out in a group settings, they all speak spanish so you feel completely lost.. in thailand, if you get a group of friends who are locals, do they speak english when they hang out in groups? |

as far as the muslims in the south go, i would avoid the suntun [sic] area, etc. boring as hell. girls, i was either traveling/living with my cousin, or with my girl over there, so i never even tried to go that route. i have only heard bad things about hooking up with thai girls long-term. serious horror stories lol. i wouldn't go there with a 10 foot pole. it's not Thailand, but in Ventiane, Laos (which rocks btw), this guy we met had a quarter of the meat on his arm bit off by a crazy Lao prositute. he told everyone he fell off his scooter, but then after a couple of beers told us the real story. we felt bad, but you kind of have to laugh at the craziness that is south east asia. /blabbermouth. |

anyone else thinks this looks like monkey cages in a fucking zoo? |

Back when I lived there, that is where I would get my hookers from. Why waste time with "jeppers" and star fish, when you can have the best? |

What I am saying is that if your idea of paradise is an immaculate beach you'll have a much easier time finding it in Borneo, Polynesia or even Sri Lanka, not that there is none here but paradise, after a while, is more than just a pretty scenery. |

Some very accurate comments in this thread.
To the comment about the monkeys in a zoo, well, experience that group of bars a few times, and maybe you will realize, YOU are the monkey in the zoo :upsidedow They do yell and shout a lot, and as soon as you sit down and buy a drink, most go about ignoring you and chatting amongst themselves or screaming at other guys to sit and buy a drink. So who is the hunter and who is the hunted in there? That section is on my list of least favorite bars to frequent. My buddie found a companion at one, but not so hot. Rock star is a decent description. As long as you are in some areas throwing money around you are popular. Then have your money run out, you are a leper. It's too easy for most of us to be confused and think they really love us. |

You can NOT live in Thailand or anywhere else in the world for $2.80 a day unless you are homeless. |
so far i spend here around 40 usd daily...cheap accomodation, eating street food, massage every 2 days, motorbike rented etc. . I heard that average thai salsary is about 300 usd , so i guess you can survive on 10-15 per day also...*especially* if you travel in group :)
