Working online you are correct, no company needed etc, but you will have visa runs.

Having 24 Thai employees is like having 24 nervous breakdowns daily. No thanks.

I've literally been all over the world and have never seen such shit for brains as I see here on a daily basis. If they didn't make me feel so God damned smart, I'd dip. Not to mention, they all thing I'm sexy. :upsidedow

CR is awesome. I lived there off and on for many years. Got robbed a few times, but hey, Ive been robbed in like 5 countries- so whatever.

Havent been to the Philippines but I know the beaches are better, its cheaper, and the kidnapping rates are pretty high.

Colombia just has a certain charm about it. I can't put it into words, you just have to see it for yourself. I could write a book on why I love Colombia, but it wouldn't do it justice. You just gotta go and roam about!

Ecuador?

I've been there a few more than 2 times and over the past 24 months I've seen two stabbings of foreigners in public places. One old white guy stabbed (and killed) by a street vendor in front of a 7/11. One korean smoking a cigarette stabbed (don't know if he died) in front of a korean restaurant, but if you've been there two times with no problems, that settles it then.

Anyway even forgetting our different experiences, since you're comparing countries it would help a little if you'd been to both, difficult for you to compare it with CR if you've never been to CR :2 cents:

And the humanitarian crisis from the idiotic drug war (financed by u.s.) has made for countless thousands of refugees. check out amnesty international's write up on colombia's human rights situation...

although i gotta say i really loved the colombian amazon. Leticia, Mocoa and a little further north, San Agustin...incredible. small town in a beautiful valley and they have these insanely precise stone statues and ruins of a mysterious nameless civilization which vanished before the spaniards got there.

I am an American, I have not visited ColUmbia. I live in Colombia and have done so for 10 years.

I was in Miami last week, leaving little Cuba, Some one pulled besides the car in front of us and shot all 4 people inside with sawed off shot gun.

My first trip to Colombia was in October 98, visited Cali, and then Medellin. Medellin was so bad you could not go outside and look for taxi.

Cali was so bad you could not go into a nigh club that was not infested with Narcos.

When I moved here it was after Escobar and the start of the Colombian Drug War.

Medellin is one the most respected and visited cities in all of South America. It is known for flowers, clothes, some of the best underwear in the world, world class fashion models, video chat and of course very hot women.

Bogata is one of the largest cities in the world, it sucks, why, because I hate large cities.

Cali being the second largest city in Colombia is beautiful, although the infrastructure is just now being fixed.

Is ColUmbia dangerous, yes no doubt about it. are there kidnappings, yes no doubt about it. Who gets kidnapped these days, dumb ass gringos who wander into the mountains flashing money around or politicians.

I have lived here like I said 10 years and have never had anything happen to me. I have visited parts of Colombia where they have never seen a gringo before.. Am I carful, yes.

I have I ever been hurt YES, but it was by having my heart broken by a Colombian woman. I can tell you this, you have NO IDEA what love is like until you have been loved by a Colombian woman.

Is Colombia a good place for an american to live, depends on the American. If you have the attitude that you are going to live here, learn about the culture, become involved you will be fine. If you come with an attitude that you are better than Colombian or that THEY DONT HAVE REAL MONEY, DOLLARS you will be fucked and unhappy.

Drug war yes, And with the help of the US the country has gotten a lot better. Was it achieved by methods that liberals would approve of, Nope... But it works.

Ok finishing my book here, Colombia is great, it is complicated, hard to understand, dangerous for the ignorant, and a wonderful place to be if you can blend in.

fuckyou/payme 10-15-2011 12:15 PM

If you come to Colombia your biggest concern will probably be me giving you a dirty look for being a dirty ass gringo that I hate seeing everywhere now... place is starting to get infested with them :disgust :Oh crap

You can fake most of this, but if you are caught, goodbye. Otherwise, depending on your visa you have to do border runs every 30 or 90 days. Thailand makes it extremely difficult to do business here legally.

It is difficult to to business legally in Thailand, but the police are generally cheap to pay off. Also, there is no need to do the visa run thing as long as you get a student visa.

Cartagena is a city of contrast. In Boca Grande, the tourist part and the Old City you have everything from super elegant to touristy... Boca grande is like any tourist beach town really and I find nothing special about it. To give you an idea the have people selling cartons of Marlboro in the street and offering them for 40 dollares. If you go into to the supermarket you can buy the same carton for 33,000 pesos or 17.80.

Old City is definitely worth exploring, it is not only pretty but very interesting from histories standpoint. There are some super restaurants there as well.

The party in in C'gena is super, you can find anything you look for. Be careful as to where you go and as to who you go with.. Don't go to the atm and take out a 500 bucks and carry it with you, don't count your money in front of people.. I other words don't be a stupid tourist.

On the beach, DONOT let the ladies who give massages touch you.. Once the get close enough to touch you you will not get rid of them until you give them money.

I do not like the beaches in C'gena, but then again I lived on Grand Cayman island for 12 years.

It is defiantly worth the money and time to spend time on Isla Rosarios... It is like going back in time and the beaches are incredible. It is a short boat trip and there are places to stay there..

We have a driver there who is very safe, who knows every one and is a great guy... If you like contact me for his cel number.

Someone asked about not speaking Spanish... Well I would suggest you start learning because if you have to depend on them speaking English you can figure on staying at your super hotel... It is not a hard thing to learn... Comprende?

What ever, like I said if you need anything let me know.

I have no idea but that sounds about right..

I had a friend visit from California about 2 years ago and he asked where he could get a couple of joints, since I dont participate in those things I had no idea so I asked my secretary if she could find something for him... He gave here 10,000 pesos (5 bucks) and the next day she came to work with a 1 gallon zip lock freezer bag full....

He said that he had never had anything like it in his life. I can say this he was not right for the rest of his trip, but then again he was from CA.. :)

So figure it out from there.

Muchisimas gracias!

Never been to Colombia, but in CR its just as pure and so cheap that price is not a factor.
Just be careful, I've seen a lot of people use it, and subsequently loose everything.

When its everywhere (Starbucks in the US), if you don't have self control.....well you see where I'm going?

To each his own, but I hate that shit.

Me parece que seria mejor si tu me buscas por ICQ. Que tengo que consejar no es por un foro.

Finding a place for a studio near the beach is = finding a cheap 3 bedroom apartment in South Beach Florida. You will find more teeth in a chickens mouth than you will cheap in Cartagena.

We had a studio in Cartagena for 3 years, my experience is, leave C'gena for the tourist.

Your Spanish is excellent, no worries on that part.

Will be glad to give you a hand..
