Todays workout was great! 60 minutes on the elliptical for a total of 992 calories burned
lets get something straight. 60 minutes is nothing. A hamburger is a thousand calories with fries and coke. 992 calories doesn't cut it. And those machines lie. Its marketing.
you need to be working out at least...at least...2 and a half hours of good cardio three times a week. You need to eat 2000 or less calories a day....you need to do this for at least two years at a minimum. If you do it for two years, you will do it for a lifetime.
Anything less than this dedication, then you are pissing up a rope and will always be fat.
Sure you can lose a few pounds by June, but that ain't real. Not even close. It is a dumb goal. I would much rather lose a whole lot less but be on the road to good health, no diabetes or heart disease, and eating good food whenever I want.
Fuck the New Orleans diet. That is a highway to hell and what you are eating will kill you.
Trust me. I know.

congrats on the weight loss sharky thats amazing you've come down from the 350s man. i once weighed 265 and it took me a year of hard exercise to drop it, but for real those machines do lie about their calories burnt on the LEDs. best bet is to just stay active all the time. you might have seen me on my bicycle at cybernet expo in SanFran last year, I ride that mofo everywhere and hardly drive, and also hit the gym twice a day for running, weights, swimming, and white girls. really i spend about 4hrs a day at the gym, and the other 20 working on my sites and shooting content. its not so much about spending time on any specific machine its about always moving your ass, especially after long computer sessions. good luck on hitting your goals man... and btw i dont care what anyone says ur diet has nothing to do with losing weight if you keep burning all the time. when i shed my 100lbs i actually starting eating more and more frequently so eat what you like just keep movin

Think longterm, it's easy to loose 1 lbs per month, and that's 60 lbs in 5 years :)

I was told that the stomach stops burning fat after 4 hours, so that is one reason to eat often.... to keep the burning going....

it's not a fucking rocket surgery - STOP FUCKING EATING. How hard is it to figure out? You eat food = you gain weight. You dont eat food = you lose weight.

How many fat jews there were in Auschwitz?
Exactly.

So just take the amount of whatever you consume daily and cut it in half.

:1orglaugh Are you by any chance an anorexic attention-whore with shitty health and great damage hazard? Great advice! Have you the slightest clue what you're talking about? Do you by any chance know how many of those Auschwitz prisoners lived to see the next year? Thought so.

Sure they lie. I didn't claim it was accurate, and in the rest of the blog I mention I have a heart-rate monitor that I will be using. However it is a good gauge when using the same machine day in day out. For me to take an hour or 2 out of my day to do cardio or lift is a heck of a lot better than none. I've done the rapid weight loss before and gained it back. I know what I did wrong and what i will not be doing this time. I eat good food and enjoy my life. I'm not on a "diet". Your comments show you don't know my situation. What may have worked for you, might not work for me. To blindly say "eat less than 2000 calories a day" is nuts. I am eating roughly 2500 calories a day, and still operating at a caloric deficit. I just eat more often.
You are right about staying active. The only way to succeed in long term life change is to change your life and stay active.

You know, I did see you on your bike! I don't have the time to spend 4hrs a day at the gym, I have kids and a job. lol. However I can work out twice a day most days and still have plenty of time to get my other jobs done.
Thanks for the congrats... and congrats to you as well. A bike in SF, with all the hills is damn hard I am sure!

I don't think you have to over analyze food and diet. You eat low fat. You don't have second helpings. You eat a good breakfast. Then you get active. The most effective way to get and remain active is to find an activity you actually enjoy and will continue for the rest of your life. Not because you have to, but because you want to. Eliptical training probably is not that.
I walk up mountains. You might play squash. Something aerobic that is fun. It is pretty simple. Its just doing it that is tough. Good luck.

Ive been on a weight loss/gain cycle for almost all of my life. I struggle with my weight and have to do a lot to keep it "normal" while others can eat whatever they want. If I don't watch what I eat or exercise I can easily put on 10+ lbs in 2-3 weeks.

Every person is different, but the #1 thing is EXERCISE! In order to loose ONE POUND, you have to burn 3500 calories. The "average" person eats 2000-2500 calories per day, so you need to find a way to burn 300-500 calories per day to keep loosing weight.

Starving yourself isnt the answer because your body will go into a hibernation mode where it burns stored body fat and muscle as engery - similar to being in ketosis. Once you go back to normal eating, you will put on more weight than previous because your bodys metabolism has been slowed and you body is trying to replenish those lost fats.

IMO, I found the best way to loose weight is to 1) watch what I eat and 2) exercise.

Watch what you eat: this doesnt mean you have to go on a strict diet, but rather, you should eat what you plan to eat normally (as in the rest of your life) and modify potions going forward. If your used to eating red meat, mashed potatoes and canned gravy, you still can, just cut down on the portions.

One important thing is watch your carb intake later in the day. Ideally, it is best to limit your carb intake later in the day. So eating a plate of pasta at 10pm then going to bed is NOT a good idea. Your body will store carbs when your sleeping and convert them to fat. Rather, try to eat your carbs for breakfast and lunch and very little at dinner and dont eat 4 hours before you go to sleep.

Personally, Im reading more and more about diet sodas and chemicals in them reacting to weight gain issues. Some people drink cans upon cans of diet coke everyday, but there is more and more research showing that it can actually cause problems in your liver which will effect your metabolism rate (im giving up diet soda unless im drinking rum).

Lastly, you have to exercise. If you cant run, then go for a walk outside. Do some squats in your house or some jumping jacks. Wake up and try to do 10 push ups or anything you can to get your heart rate up.

I found the best results where when I would exercise in the morning (20 min after small breakfast) which included weight training and cardo then a small amount of cardo later at night, like 20 minutes on a bike or jog.

Good Luck :thumbsup

Watch what you eat, and eat 6 small meals a day, instead of 3 large ones. It allows your metabolism to work better...

BigDeanEvans 01-04-2010 04:12 AM

High protein, low crab diet and make sure you are getting enough fiber and water.
