I can appreciate the art that goes into some porn and I am in awe of someone like Andrew Blake, but you can count guys like him on a few fingers, where it's art AND wankable. Everyone else trying to shoot high quality porn may shoot technically high quality video, but the fantasy is not there, it is not believable, it is not wankable, it does not make me cum, no matter how big it is, how clear it is, the treatment put on it or what camera it was shot on. I don't think I'm alone in this either, hence the unstoppable "amateur" niche.

Having said all of that, there is a nut for every bolt so keep on doing what you're doing so long as you can make a living at it.

Oh, no doubt the consumer wants more these days. I don't disagree with that. But one thing hasn't change after all these years, and that is a guy in a dark room with his cock in his hand, looking for THE THING to get him off, whatever that "thing" is.

Sure, if you're shooting for Joon over at DP, you're gonna want to shoot the highest quality video you can shoot, and on a TV it looks great. Unless you really know what you're doing when it comes time to render it down for the net (and most people don't), it's going to end up losing a lot of quality. I think the key is, should you be trying to produce the highest possible quality, is to have someone who can shoot it in that manner as well as someone who can encode it properly. Otherwise the consumer may not get to see just how great your footage really is.

I don't disagree with you at all. But like I said, you can count the Andrew Blakes in this industry on a few fingers. I'm here to get paid. If I wanted to make art, I wouldn't be in this business. Kudos to those of you who can pull it off, so long as it's wankable.

You guys are really missing the point. Its nothing to do with creating art or high end anything. Its about making money from images. Whatever makes you the most money is what you do. DWB its not about this.... Its about quality that will have long legs and make more money. We are not talking about a big investment here. I have seen tons of crappy quality porn that lots will jerk off to but it will not make anywhere near the return that the same scene shot by someone who is capable will. I can't verify that, but it is my gut instinct. This is not an discussion about art or hiring focus pullers. In fact, tossing in backlights and photoshopping would not be worthwhile to me. When I shoot, I shoot ten to twelve photosets and an hour or more of video every day. That ain't exactly high production value. My videos are virtually real time. Change of wardrobe takes longer than the photography. So I am damn sure not a prima dona. I grind it out like hamburger.

Good points and I appreciate it - Roy is a great photographer so I understand his angle though I don't have his skill - I have to use the scene (amateur, "unscripted", interplay, pushing) as the draw. HD is awesome but if the camera doesn't focus well and doesn't work in various lighting, you lose out on numerous amateur opportunities. I have good recs for camera now.
