first car at 17.

I bought my first car at fifteen paid cash. It was an 01 Neon ACR. I thought it was AWESOME. I just bought my second car, an 06 350z. Not too shabby for as young as I am.

rowan 01-27-2010 05:53 PM

I was a late starter because I lived in an inner city area with good public transport, didn't start driving until I was 25 and didn't actually own a car (in my name) until I was about 27-28. Strangely enough that was around the time I discovered how much money adult sites could make me. :thumbsup

got my first car at 17 in 1988 it was a 1975 bmw 2002 it lasted about 1 month before the motor kind of melted. I have had a few other beemers over the years that were very good cars I will be getting another one when I move out of the sticks

garce 01-27-2010 06:55 PM

I convinced my mother to buy a Plymouth Duster in 1976 when I was thirteen. THEN she goes and buys it from my gaddamned uncle who wouldn't let her upgrade to 360ci V8.

Knowing I'd get the car in a few years, I begged and pleaded for the upgrades, but to no avail. After I finally got it, my friends and I made the bloody thing look amazing, but it still had a slant six and handled like a fucking Volare. I was sixteen with a hot looking Duster, but it could have been soooooo much better.

I have never forgiven my POS uncle for that. Ironically, he ran a Ford dealership. But because he was the ONLY dealer in his town, he could special order all brands.

The bastard still has the dealership, too. Fucker must be 200 years old.

ArsewithClass 01-27-2010 07:39 PM

I bought my first car at the age of 17, just 3 weeks after my birthday after passing my test with the Chief examiner of Bedfordshire. lol worst mistake of his life, letting me on the roads!

It was an Audi 80, my own hard earnt cash of which I blew the engine up about 6 months later! My Audi was a slightly darker blue than this one!

http://www.motorbase.com/uploads/ccf...1230311882.jpg

Every year, I improved my car until now. For the past 3 years I have owned the same car & I dont want to change her! :thumbsup

CPimp 01-27-2010 07:57 PM

A few years ago, I am sure.

I bought my first at 19. Another at 19. Another at 20. Then another at 21. Then another at 21.

Brat 01-27-2010 08:10 PM

I was 20, paid it myself. Still have it actually but it's slowly falling apart and the body is crap.

I got mine at sixteen. However, one of my father's businesses was a small used car lot. My first car was a 1981 Renault 18i. This must have been about 1985 or 1986. It was pretty cool, power windows, power seats, cassette player, leather seats. Shortly after I got my car I ended up using the car to leave home.

My second car was a 1976 Camaro.

First new car was in 1993.

onwebcam 01-28-2010 01:09 AM

Started driving at a young age. I would drop my dad off at his bar and come back to pick him up after he closed down starting around 14. My first car which I paid for was a honda crx at 15 had about 6 different ones by 21. I have a habit of trading cars often. I'd say an average of twice a year in the last 20 years. Last year broke the record where I bought/sold/traded 6 times.

I bought my first car in 1983, I was 17 at the time, just passed my driving test. It was a Fiat X1/9 which was a popular little sports car at the time. For those who don't remember these it looked like this :

http://www.westmichigancruisnclassic...Fiat%20X19.jpg

Funnily enough my current car has exactly the same layout and no. of seats. But its a bit more fun :)

Bah, BMW... I had an 85 dodge charger at 16 with those black things on the back window... it got going so fast one day :) those black things over the window blew off, quickly followed by the hood of the car blowing up and rapping around the top of the car...

I would own your 3-series!

worked and bought my own car (without a sdingle dollar from my mom) when I was 17. Saved up bought the cart working from 15-16 and bought myy first car at 17, couple days before turning 18. I had to wait until after 18 to take driving test so mom didnt have to be there! Got my license and learned valuable lesson.

i shall make my child save and do the same. too many parents give their kids cars, was told if i want it, go work for it.... probably the first time i really saved up for something and paid cash and felt adult about it.

I had an 87 GTS - one of my most favorite cars. It was a manual transmission and at the time my Dad had a Porsche 944 automatic - I could beat him from a standstill :upsidedow

That was the first manual car I had owned and hadn't driven very many before that. I basically learned how to drive manual on that car and drove 2 exits up from where I lived every day for a month before I felt comfortable enough to stop and start on a hill.

It was stolen after 18 months - they found it but it had been wrecked and I already bought a new car before they found it :(

We can't even drive until 18 here. And then my school was so near, it wasn't worth to mess with a car. Even though it would surely get me more pussy. :)

Ravage 01-28-2010 11:00 AM

First car I owned was a '94 Tempo which I purchased from my mom at the age of 21. Shit car but solid and heavy as a tank, literally :1orglaugh

At 24, I bought a Jetta. Great car until some douche decided to smack his door into mine within a year. Got a few other dings from people, including the one on the back bumper. Get this, I'm parked waiting for CT to open. I'm the only one on this section of the lot, far from the door. Plenty of spots everywhere. This guy decides to not only come to the section wher I'm parked, but decides to park behind me, and fucking hits me. I lost it on him.. he's lucky I had friends with me or it wouldn't have ended nicely.

I gave the car to the mother-in-law and I bought a '92 XJ project Jeep. I never did finish things on it before I bought a '97 XJ a couple years ago. Currently at 32, I'm looking at a pretty good deal on a '01 WJ that's too good to pass up.

I'd easily buy new, but I really do not want to go thru the lack of respect people have for other's property, and come back out to a nice fresh dent in a new ride. So until I'm out of the hussle 'n bussel, I'll continue to buy good used. I've got enough connetions with dealerships to keep me happy for now in the used department.

Tom_PM 01-28-2010 11:14 AM

I was around 18 I guess. First car was a $300 VW bug with a weird semi-automatic transmission. Second car was another VW bug. Third was a Toyota Supra. Fourth was an Audi 5000. Fifth was a Saturn sl2. That car just broke on Christmas weekend. No idea what I'll get next, I'm just walking.

Ahhh the old VW "Auto-Stick" transmission.... yeah, I had one of those back in the 80s. Stick shift, but no clutch. Weird as hell. I ripped it out and put in a full manual with an actual clutch.

Yes, exactly! Just push down a bit on the shifter and click it into the gear. Very weird for a first car, but kind of cool. Mine had a badly welded strut that gave way on the highway. No accidents, but I gave it away and bought one with a normal manual transmission and a more intact floorpan.

Yeah, they were great little project cars. Mine had a bad ignition switch that wouldn't lock the key in, so one day my idiot roommate pulled the keys out while we were driving, the steering wheel locked (due to no keys) and we crashed into a tree at 40 mph... lol.. good times! :)

kristin 01-28-2010 11:59 AM

I have epilepsy and couldn't get my license when I was 16. When I was 18, I finally got it but was paying out of state tuition for college, thus no money for a car.

I finally got a piece of shit car for $1200 when I was 20, I bought my first new car when I was 22. Corolla, traded that in for my current owned vehicle.

I had a VW that I was playing around with around 17. I had the intentions of fixing it up but I took it out on the interstate one day to see how fast I could make it go, well, lol my friend was sitting in the back seat and he tells me he smells gas. I told him, nah, that's just the way these things smell. Next thing I know he's like "pull over!" I look in the rear view mirror and theres flames shooting out of the engine compartment. Needless to say the idea of fixing that one up went up in flames and man did it burn up quick. lol

Tom_PM 01-28-2010 02:22 PM

lol, holy flaming and crashing vw's batman!

My audi (traded an old computer+$300 for it) would stall in rainstorms and heavy snow. One day in heavy rain I noticed it trying to stall on the highway and in the rearview I saw splashes of sparks. Finally figured out that water was running down the underside of the hood and dropping all around and the ignition coil, which had a giant chunk broken out of it's insulation. So it was like the fourth of july under the hood. Probably lucky I'm not more dead :1orglaugh

On the way home that night it was sitll pouring and the car didnt make it, but as fate would have it, a guy who was behind me pulled right over. It was a customer I'd sold a cell phone too about 5 hours earlier, and he let me use it to call for help. Instant karma I figure, or something like good luck maybe.

That piece of junk was really comfortable to sit in and drive, but damn it was messed up. I gave it away to some guy for nothing.

And now, some 14 yrs later, the new car I got to replace it is dead and I have to give it away for scrap too. Ah well, it had a good run.

16 years old bought a mercury topaz from a family member. That held me over and I *upgraded* to a Escalade when I was like 20. Now I'm driving a 2010 Silverado CrewCab that I really like.

seoguyzzz 01-28-2010 05:26 PM

everyone own car till age of 20! GREAT!!!!

facialfreak 01-28-2010 11:52 PM

My first car I bought at age 16 -- was the largest ever production sports coupe : a 1974 Pontiac Gran Prix SJ455

http://www.a1websolutions.com/my1stcar.jpg

The thing was a tank, but with a slapstick shifting, posi-traction rear end, and 390 factory HP, it had no problems getting me to where I wanted to go REALLY FAST!!!

For all you sharp-eyed film buffs ... yes it was the same make/model that Carrie Fisher drove in The Blues Brothers!

d-null 01-29-2010 12:06 AM

owned my first car at 16 years old

Redrob 01-29-2010 12:15 AM

Got my first car a 16. An old baby blue, 1959 Pontiac Bonneville convertible with a bad roof. Had a lot of fun in that car; but, had to carry a tarp and park under trees in the rain.

ahoy 01-29-2010 01:21 AM

At 16 I was passed down a 94 Toyota Landcruiser (this was in 02). Was a nice vehicle, but one hell of a gas hog. At around 19 or so got rid of the Yota and was passed down a 97 Subaru Outback. Was a great little all around vehicle and was perfect for the Michigan weathers.

Had the Subaru all through college (didn't really drive much) and when I graduated last summer, got a nice little graduation gift, a 08 4 door Wrangler. Always been a huge fan of Jeeps, nothing beats cruisin with the doors and top off :thumbsup

And yes- I am very very thankful for what I am given

Sabby 01-29-2010 02:00 AM

I got my first car going into grade 11. 1979 plymouth soporo. it was cute...

crashed (I actually hit an off duty cop lol) and wrote it off 2 years later and got double back from the insurance settlement what my daddy paid for it (in my name) a year later... :)

Sabby:)
