Perfectly said. This is the perfect answer.

shit, if all your looking for in college is girls and parties you just need to rent a place near the dorms and you're set. no need to spend 20-40k.

oh, and i just wanted to add this: im not sure if there is a difference in the language used but here in canada college is typically what the C students go to after high school. the people who want an actual career and not just a trade go to university.

My view is that university, more notably advanced degrees, refines your 'processes' and helps you 'mature' your decision-making, especially in business. Formal education helps you organize 'cluttered' environments and can, ultimately, help you maximize efficiency (individual, organizational, or otherwise). 'Formal education is a waste of money,' 'it doesn't teach you about real life,' etc... are lame excuses. I'm not saying that everyone on the planet needs to have a formal education to be successful or 'smart' or to be on the same 'social level' as those who do possess a degree. I just feel that you're at an advantage if you add certain amount of education to back your on-the-ground experience. :)

What the fuck is "the real world"?

It's not just about grades and fact-learning, and it's not just about partying and networking. It's a complete experience in learning, independence and growth. I know I never would have been exposed to some of the intellectual stimulation I've had without, yet many of the intellectually challenging things I've been through would still have happened without it. College is a foundation.

I'll never regret one minute I spent at college.

I spent 7 years in college and loved the experience.

this is true, maybe besides the top few % that get jobs straight from college based on their degrees. This happened to a few people I know. Most of the study freaks from my college ended up with shitty jobs, making almost minimum wage

I went to the book store and learned).. I don't necessarily think it's a waste generally speaking, but for me it was.. when I looked into going.

With that said, I'm very seriously considering going to get a double major in Philosophy and Arabic.. then a masters in Middle Eastern Studies... mainly for the knowledge. Or switch Philosophy to History.. I think it'd be interesting.

And, in reverse, I learned Arabic from living in the Middle East for a few years, not school. :1orglaugh

agreed. i have a 4 year degree in Genetics, with a minor in Philosophy. i worked in a graduate level Genetics research lab for my last two summers in uni with one of my prof's and his grad/post-grad students, mutating the DNA of worms and flies lol. pretty hard to have experiences like that outside of academics.

college shows

1) time management skills
2) deadline management
3) the ability to handle 3-4 years of bullshit and get decent enough grades to graduate.
4) ability to listen, write etc
5) works well in groups/presentations.

hence why companies will hire someone with a degree regardless if it's in their field.
