Also don't forget the short game, half your shots are chipping or putting so don't just focus on blasting those long drives...

not really. I go to the range. I have a lot of really nice muni courses though around me that are priced low and I find actually getting in that full game mindset makes me play better. imho.

I disagree with those who say start swinging without a coach at first, then get one later. Better to have proper fundamentals right out of the gate, in my view.

Never had a lesson in my life, although I did watch those jack nicklaus golf my way videos. The best BOOK on Fundamentals is Ben Hogan's Book of Fundamental's.

Good score is made by knowing short-game (chips/pitches/putting). Everyone can get near the green with a few shots, but getting it in the small-ass cup is the hard part ;)

Driving/long shots, it's a matter of technique NOT strength. You will not get the ball any farther (except the forest/lakes around the course) if you try to force it longer.

Lots of good advice. It all depends on your natural ability. Once you figure that out you can see if you need lessons.

Most importantly have a good time :thumbsup

All you need to remember is to keep your head down. The rest is just details.

Hit the ball in the middle of the club face and you should be good :)

Get an iPad

Get lessons before you swing a club, you won't have to train your muscles as much.
