KK-

You are so right about this! "Gotta love all these people that want to intimidate through their attorneys. Funny thing is that most of them forget that if they actually serve you with a suit they will be 'discovered' as well. Which is a main reason that big companies always want to settle if they can."

THIS IS why three internet companies and a webmaster resource company which will remain NAMELESS will NEVER sue me for speaking up

DISCOVERY IS A BITCH, and their are skeletons in everyone's closet-

except for mine...:-))

good luck Chris R... I tried to respond to a post like this on another board and told them the whole 'litigation explosion' thing was a PR campaign from insurance companies. Conservatives only recognize and respond to facts that fit their world view however, the truth DOES NOT set them free.

Ive had C n D from Nintendo of America, The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce (City of Hollywood), and Mattel, and Fisher Price.

Never had an 'govern yourself' shit attached.

Just 5 pages of threats and big figures.

Wrap yourself in the truth and tell the lawyers to piss off.
If you tell lies, die.
It's easy to do yet so few practice it.

you will lose $500,000 in a heart beat..

retain me and risk ONLY $250,000 damage!
;-)))

case studies:

1. Kathleen Robertson of Austin, Texas, was awarded $780,000 by a jury of her peers after breaking her ankle tripping over a toddler who was running inside a furniture store. The owners of the store were understandably surprised at the verdict, considering the misbehaving little toddler was Ms. Robertson's son.

2. A 19-year-old Carl Truman of Los Angeles won $74,000 and medical
expenses when his neighbor ran over his hand with a Honda Accord. Mr.
Truman apparently didn't notice there was someone at the wheel of the car when he was trying to steal his neighbor's hubcaps.

3. Terrence Dickson of Bristol, Pennsylvania, was leaving a house he had just finished robbing by way of the garage. He was not able to get the garage door to go up since the automatic door opener was malfunctioning. He couldn't re-enter the house because the door connecting the house and garage locked when he pulled it shut. The family was on vacation, and Mr.Dickson found himself locked in the garage for eight days. He subsisted on a case of Pepsi he found, and a large bag of dry dog food. He sued the homeowner's insurance claiming the situation caused him undue mental anguish. The jury agreed to the tune of $500,000.

4. Jerry Williams of Little Rock, Arkansas, was awarded $14,500 and medical expenses after being bitten on the buttocks by his next door neighbor's beagle. The beagle was on a chain in its owner's fenced yard. The award was less than sought because the jury felt the dog might have been just a little provoked at the time by Mr. Williams who was shooting it repeatedly with a pellet gun.

5. A Philadelphia restaurant was ordered to pay Amber Carson of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, $113,500 after she slipped on a soft drink and broke her coccyx (tailbone). The beverage was on the floor because Ms. Carson had thrown it at her boyfriend 30 seconds earlier during an argument.

6. Kara Walton of Claymont, Delaware, successfully sued the owner of a
night club in a neighboring city when she fell from the bathroom window to the floor and knocked out her two front teeth. This occurred while Ms. Walton was trying to sneak through the window in the ladies room to avoid paying the $3.50 cover charge. She was awarded $12,000 and dental expenses.

7. This year's favorite could easily be Mr. Merv Grazinski of Oklahoma
City, Oklahoma. Mr. Grazinski purchased a brand new 32-foot Winnebago
motor home. On his first trip home, having driven onto the freeway, he set the cruise control at 70 mph and calmly left the drivers seat to go into the back and make himself a cup of coffee. Not surprisingly, the R.V. left the freeway, crashed and overturned. Mr. Grazinski sued Winnebago for not advising him in the owner's manual that he couldn't actually do this. The jury awarded him $1,750,000 plus a new motorhome. The company actually changed their manuals on the basis of this suit, just in case there were any other complete morons buying their recreation vehicles.

8. Aussie Rebel got an 8 year sentence for hacking some motherfucker who wanted to rob his home with an axe.

psyko514 12-23-2002 11:47 AM

if the lawyer is real, he's nothing more than a moron who know's very little about the internet.
they would be able to prove beyond reasonable doubt that AaronM did post those comments.

First, they'd have to get the IP address he used to post, which would require a subpoena. Then, they would have to match that IP address to an ISP. Then they would have to subpoena the ISP to determine if AaronM had been assigned that IP address.

If they went that far, he could easily say "I left myself logged in to GFY during a party at my place, and someone else must have dissed the baby"

I hope you and your son are both doing well! If you're going to 'Vegas I'd like to meet up for a minute or two. So much has changed! I'm sure a lot has changed for you, too.

UnseenWorld 12-23-2002 12:00 PM

I'm not an attorney, but I'm pretty well read on these things in a layman way, and here's what I think (just an opinion)...

On the one hand, you are not exempt from libel, slander, and defamation suits by saying what you say on a chat board.

HOWEVER, when someone sees what the standard level of behavior is on this board, where insults and taunts (both sincere and otherwise) are common, and when someone nevertheless decides that someone goes too far when engaging in what is pretty common behavior in this forum, THEN I think someone is being an ass.

I, for one, don't want someone who's quite that sensitive on the board, and if Rory were banned entirely from participating, I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it.

I think Rory owes the board an apology.
