Psst.... no one gives a shit about what particular family it belongs to. One half of GFY wants to see blood, the other is indifferent because a wild animal acted.... *shocked*.... wild.

But for those interested, Waddymelon is right, it is the largest species of the dolphin family.

Let me guess, the clever name fooled you? Killer Dolphin just doesnt sound scary or cool, does it?

It's ok though.... Shimmy thinks that killer whales dont have eyes.

I will hold my hands up and say I didn't know that. Humpbacks are more my knowledge base when it comes to whales. Either way though it doesn't stop having one in a tank any less wrong.

My mother was a science teacher with a marine biology slant to her degree. A few times when I was a kid she took a group of students down to Florida and we did a behind the scenes thing at Sea World. Where they are kept when the show isn't on isn't very big at all.

Seaquarium's killer whale tank is in violation of USDA/APHIS standards for size. It is illegal because it is just 35 feet wide for a 21 foot long whale. Her tank is only 1.5 times her size. Lolita, the whale, who was caught from the wild, has lived in this tiny, barren, shadeless, cement tank for 40 years through all weather, including blistering heat and deadly hurricanes. Also, despite the fact that whales are extremely social animals and in the wild they stay with their family pod for life, Lolita has not been allowed to see another orca for 30 years.

Additionally, Seaquarium has had more than 75 dolphins and 80 sea lions - many of which were caught from the wild - die according to their Marine Mammal Inventory Reports.

I loved English and history/social studies type classes. My dad was also a math teacher for a good while. No idea how they managed to create my brain between them.
