Well, if what was said about salt water vs. freshwater density is true then that is moot...but I still don't quite get that.

And again if I put ice cubes in a bowl of water and piled them up above the top of the bowl...but made sure they were floating, not sitting on the bottom of the bowl...then they could melt all away and the bowl would still not overflow

I'm just talkin' by the way. I know there is some big explanation. But I'm almost sure it has to be from ice melting on land mass and then making it's way to the ocean as opposed to an iceberg floating on the ocean melting.

Well it is aproximately 360 miles by 240 miles and 1/4 mile high. If it floats it may eventually melt. The problem is... why is it breaking off and melting? Why are there ravaging snow storms accross the USA and raining in Canada in the middle of winter? Why all the changes in climate & weather? These may seem like small insignificant changes, but they all add up to big ones. No charity can stop this, everyone has to just stop driving cars and burning fossil fuels that's all - no biggie!

There is actually land under the ice in Antarctica, which is what qualifies it as a continent.

Does anybody here realise jsut how big of a load of shit this global warming is ?

If you actually read that article and listen to what the scientists say... you would know what caused it to break off. And you would know that global warming was NOT the cause. And nobody said this one was melting. The story is about it breaking off. It was the result of a collision in nature for those of you who don't want to really pay attention to that story.

Right... so... for millions of years since the volcanos formed land and superpoluted the whole planet - no-one burned fosil fuels until the last 100 years and now EVERYONE who drove a car did and that has zero cause and effect? I live on top of a hill overlooking the city and I watch the smog grow throughout the day - am I imagining this? 365 days a year X 100 years = zero effect from smog? In every city, town, state, and country in the world? Zero? Now who is being naive?

Oh okay. I just googled this up after you wrote that. And the Arctic is just ice with no land.

Whether the Antarctic is melting at all is hard to tell when you google it up. Every other result contradicts the one before. lol

One says it is, the next says it isn't, the next says the melting is accelerating, the next one says the ice is GROWING.

How the hell are we supposed to know what is going on?

I guess if you already have your mind made up on the subject it's helpful. But if a person just wanted to do some research with an open mind about it...it seems impossible.

trust "scientists" on the payrolls of oil companies, moronic cranks with an internet connection and political point scorers.

I don't listen to most scientists. When I was 3 years old and studied archeology and evolution they said the earth was 400 Million years old and man had been on it for a Million years although our history only dates back a few thousand years -what's up? And all that from 42 years ago is proved wrong and we are the only life form in the solar system - bullshit.

Waddymelon 02-26-2010 10:09 PM

Lets send Capt Paul Watson and his Whale Wars crew down there to glue it back in place.

ROFL, there is more than enough evidence confirming that as of traffic patterns what is going on is a regular planetary event, nothing new.

Pollution yes is a problem but there are no decent studies out there that our pollution over the last 50 years has caused any ill effects on our weather. In fact when the dinosaurs were in there prime there was more CO2 In the atmosfer that there is now

Of course our history only goes back a few thousand years, we were strictly hunters and wounders before then for 100,000 years or soo since we evolved. DOnt tell me your one of those moronic fools that does not be leave in evolution.

From what Ive read its shrinking on one side and growing on the othere, our planet is actually shift poles atm which is cause all this weird weather the world is having.

The reason I said listen to this scientist is...HE is the one who has been studying this thing for a while and reported what happened. He and his team recorded the event when it happened. That's what I was trying to tell you. It would be easier if you just went to the link on the original post and read it and listened to the interview for the details. :)

it's why long term planning is impossible with most current political systems

It is because global warming got turned into a political issue. So like anything else political you have a bunch of idiots on both sides that don't know what they are talking about and just repeat what their party wants them to believe or what they hear in the media.

Like you stated, its GLOBAL AVERAGE temp. rising like 1 or 2 degrees over many years. 95% of the people dont even understand that much, they think oh it snowed today in my town, pfff global warming is just a hoax.

I'm not saying i believe one way or the other, its just funny to hear people discredit something when they don't even understand what it is.

So in other words, it's slightly larger than my back yard?

This is what they said last year, and the year before that, and the year before.

Twenty years ago they were talking about how we were gonna die from an ice age. Whatever.

Just do your part and go GREEN as much as possible (recycle, bike once in a while instead of car, use energy-saving light bulbs, insulate your home, low-flow toilets, etc) and quit worrying or arguing about whether global fucking warming "exists" or not.

Going greener in your life is simply smart, ignoring everything because you "don't believe in global warming" is stupid.

I'm not sure it exists either, but I do know the energy-saving things I've done over the past 15+ years has saved me tens of thousands of dollars, and continues to save me a ton of money every year.

Global warming or not, if you're not going green you're an idiot.

Sometimes things are so obvious you just cannot ignore it. Here is the truth as I see it, this is gonna sting so watch out. Time to get real.

Stop driving. Period. You too Al Gore. Everything else is cool too but that's the biggest thing and it will never happen because the world has become lazy as fuck. If you don't believe in global warming then go hook up a tube to your exhaust pipe, put it in your mouth and come back in another life. Captain obvious enough for everyone?

Meteors and volcanos and massive earthquakes and tidal waves and sunamis killed the dinosoars and almost everything else and created "The Ice Age". Sound familiar? Check out the news in the last 5 years. I don't even need to list the examples.

I saw the picture of the 240 mile by 360 mile chunk of ice breaking away from Antarctica and all I said was "Uh-Oh... that's not good!" nuff said. I'll click the link and listen to yet another "Expert" in the morning. I got "The First 48" on DVR to watch.

BRing it on

Here is an interesting short article.

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/n...s-warming.html

Why are the polar ice caps on mars melting as well?

I believe the earth is warming, i think humans have very little to do with this...
I think the volcano on hawaii probably puts out more toxic global warming bullshit in one day than us humans do in a week.. but hey..
They're gonna use it as another way to tax us.. its gonna be a carbon tax and its gonna suck.. dont fall for this game.

First and for most there is 0 conclusive evidence going ether way. Its not like smoking where you can map out a smokers life and show how cancer is being caused. I beleave there is more than enough evidence showing that we have lil to no effect on our worlds climate and historical records back the recent weather events 100%.

You just cant argue that.
