Wow, they really did destroy this country in about 50 years. This is proof that a small number of people working together as a team can really change the world in a short amount of time. Obama is just a tool who was groomed by elites to do exactly what he is doing now. They have such a tight leash on this guy that he does not even speak at a Kindergarten class without his trusty dual tele-prompters. I would not be shocked at all to see Obama "taken out" so as to create more division between blacks and whites. Divide and conquer is the name of the game. Congrats to the winners I guess.

You really arent making sense there. Nation destroyers is a reckless comment and you have nothing but your own fear to base it on.

Amnesty for illegals? Yes, the past couple of decades has been strict on illegal aliens. Thats why Walmart gets busted hiring them. Thats why in every news clip showing farm workers harvesting, they all have hoods pulled over their faces and hats on their heads. Pay attention. Thats why corrupt american companies hire them for pennies instead of paying a real wage and hiring fellow americans. You know what, it's too easy. Leave it at this: How was your 8 years of republican leadership on illegal aliens and reforming the immigration system?

And all this fear talk about Obama like he's a manufactured bot set loose on an innocent country in order to destroy it. All just talk. All born of fear. Whipped up fear in a frenzy of tantrum from a baby called the republican party. The minority party throwing a major tantrum because they picked wrong and didnt get any sweet deals in this new bill that became law. Tough shit. Better luck next time.

Yes, tough shit. Enjoy the health care bill that'll never see the light of day:)
Btw, I love the "Fear mongering" double standard. When Obama fucks up, he doesn't really fuck up, the Republicans make it look that way!! Idiot

A law which doesn't go into effect until 2014, and that's assuming it doesn't get repealed by then. Tom once again proves his ignorance and stupidity.

Illegal alien problems in any country can be fixed really easily. Bust anyone....and I do mean anyone...who hires them and pays them money. Make is hurt and the cross border traffic will drop drastically. However, this cheap labor sustains what otherwise be an unaffordable lifestyle. Consumer services and food prices would rise. Either that, or citizens would have to work for less. The law of unintended consequences would kick in.

Good luck with that. When they do raids to bust illegals here, people complain it is racial profiling. They should just make a guest worker program like they have mentioned many times.

Tom_PM 03-26-2010 11:45 AM

Let them come. Simply make a robust enforcement of CURRENT laws. How could anyone have a problem with that?

My point is bust the employer and cut off the source of funding. When you have "guest workers" it just compounds the problem. You either want cheap labor or you don't.

That is a good point and true (sorry everyone that does not understand this) but I really think conservatives will have a hard time repealing this law and running on repealing it. The democrats seem to have some sort of party unity going on here and Obama has set the tone... dems will make republicans looks like they are trying to take away all the good things in the bill :2 cents:

They have November and 2012 elections. Speaking of unity, the republicans are pretty much fully united, whereas Democrats keep fighting amongst each other.

If your state doesnt participate, then your citizens dont get the benefit, and you doom your entire state health care system into the old way until they all leave as well for greener pastures. There is no "winning" via knee-jerk lawsuit.

Where to begin...

1. What you describe with the states has been happening for years. People have been fleeing the high tax, semi-socialist republics of Massachusetts, California, Michigan, etc. for other states with less government burden. The people who are going to these aforementioned states are in fact looking for the handouts you mention. So it is already happening... unfortunately these states are losing more productive victims (tax payers) to the other states so they are close to bankruptcy.

2. I am rich and healthy and have not had health insurance for most of my life. It is an educated choice based on age, health, and statistics - The same variables insurance companies use to determine my rate. So, to answer your question, Yes... there are a lot of people who can afford it but choose not to have insurance. These same people do not want to pay for other people's medical coverage. Keeping in mind that the poor and elderly already get their medical expenses covered via Medicaid and Medicare.

Maintenance of life, at the expense of someone else, is not a right...

The Demon 03-26-2010 12:20 PM

Amen to that ^

The one thing I have been very impressed by with the republicans is their party unity and consistency of message. These guys are all on the same page every day of the week. I will withhold my personal opinion on their message but you have to admire the tight front they have.

I think the problem they are going to face in 10 and 12 is that they are pandering to the smallest possible base. Everyone is entitled to believe what they will but the more moderate 'big tent party' republicans were a much bigger threat then this new ultra conservative semi violent tea party that the RNC is kissing the ass of. The majority of Americans do not agree with their policies or rhetoric and now their tactics of vandalism and implied threats of violence. The republicans would do very well to distance themselves from these radicals and move more to the middle and quickly

The democrats have their own problems, they are perceived as weak on defense and as spineless as a jellyfish, but they are now being considered by many to be 'republican lite' which is more centrist and appeals to a much larger percent of the population. I do not see them losing their majorities in either house at this point :2 cents:

no worries I dont take much personally :) I think that the way the current power structure is in the US it is a bit admirable. esp when contrasted with how disjointed the democrats have been over the past year. They couldn't get a majority of their members to agree on what day of the week it is and the republican's unity completely fucked up the heads of the democrats. In essence, their ability to stick together practically put the minority party in a position of determining what got done... unheard of power for a party in the minority. It looks like the democrats may have finally caught on but I am not holding my breath here

Sometimes minority governments can be effective. They have to listen to the people a little more closely. I think that is what the Democrats did in this case. This is a popular bill by all accounts, but it took some tweaking to get it passed.

davidd, I think the part where people have been choosing to not buy insurance and thus not pay for others care is really where it comes down, whether we like it or not. Those who pay for insurance and need to get benefits from it are being gouged and dropped because they are sometimes loss leaders. And thats because the poor and homeless and people without insurance who have an emergency still have to be paid for somehow. Those who can and DO pay out of pocket afterwards are not the issue. The only people the insurance companies have to get money from or cut losses from.. are their dwindling paying clients. So of course, they do. I think it reached the point where enough people saw it was unsustainable.

Oh and I know there are provisions in the law that dont take effect immediately. Some take effect later, and some even later. I was replying to the post which said "it'll never see the light of day" which it already has of course.
