The problem is that people in these threads tend to grossly over generalize others in the thread. I can't stand Obama...just another in a long line of spineless democrats and he takes zero risks. The wars in the middle east are proof of it..say one thing, do another.

Not sure what you mean by deregulation, because we could debate endlessly on who create this whole mess. Furthermore, I'm wondering why that seems to be the only event that made you change your mind. I'm fiscally conservative as well btw. At any rate, you and I have ideological differences, but because you present your argument in a clear and concise manner, I have respect for you. YOu have to realize that for 1 of you, there are 99 others who are dumb beyond all belief.

Either way, it still works to your advantage. If it's not you, then that's good for you because that guy looks like a total queer bait douche. If it is, then cool since you're definitely going to be camouflaged since no one would suspect that guy of having mid-6 figure investments while attending law school.

Deregulation. If I were going to pin it to one political figure (which would be folly but here goes) I would blame Reagan/Regan. I had a strong belief that the trickle down theory worked and that companies would act in their own best interest and the interests of our economy. This is wildly complicated and I am doing it a serious disservice here but in effect the corporations did do what was in their own best interest (Clinton gave them a huge stepping stone with NAFTA) and they fucked the American middle class. The class of our society which kept us competitive in a world market. The banks went wild with deregulation and the recent near collapse may have been long in coming but that did not make it any less devastating. These same institutions are so addicted to their gambling on high risk ventures that even after a huge loss they have not stopped the practices that got us there in the first place. I want strong and enforced regulation, tariffs, China to be labeled as a currency manipulator and for industry to move back to the US. I do not know if this is viewed as socialism by conservatives, but I am tired of the high paying secure jobs going over seas when we have a population motivated and in need of decent paying jobs right here.

Yes it is and that speaks volumes about our social infrastructure that this speech, regardless of which side it comes from (yeah I roll my eyes often at Ed Shultz), is tolerated in what should be very serious discussions/debates over very important issues that face every single citizen of this country. I mean McCain said there would be no more cooperation for the rest of the year.....First I laughed, right out loud at the irony, then I got pissed. Partisanship is the very last thing this country needs right now and the first step to improving this country is a centering of the way we talk to one another

specifically I think someone is going to kill someone else over the tone of what is being said. Look, they called that doctor 'the baby killer' and some unstable person ended his life. Those that influenced this unstable person never accepted any responsibility for their part nor were they pressured to. I do not like to point fingers but I am seeing an awful lot of violent speech and imagery coming from the far right and they need an actual 'leader' to step up and calm this shit down before something happens that cannot be just pushed aside as the current political climate. Sat what you want about the Democrats, but the big tent party of the Republicans seems to have turned into a violent, far right wing minority party with money pulling all the strings......... I truly and honestly wish the Maverick (who I used to hold in the absolute highest respect and considered voting for until he added Palin to the ticket) would have stepped up and been a true leader for the Republican party. His concession speech had me in tears and now look what has happened.

This is where we disagree. I think Reagan's only fault was his defense spending and yet it was necessary. He created 16 million jobs. I'm a firm believer of deregulation, if not completely removing politics from the market. Furthermore, what makes you think the government does anything differently? If anything, they're more corrupt and dangerous because they have a printing press. The banking crisis is a combination of Republicans/Clinton. And you're talking about outsourcing, which is one of the biggest reasons we're on the verge of economic collapse. We went from a manufacturing economy to a service economy in 30 years, and we're increasing the amount of outsourcing every year, as well as domestic unemployment. It has got to stop.

You won't have any kind of peace with one side controlling all aspects of government.

I wouldn't go so far as to call the violent, they're doing what the Dems would do if they were the minority. I agree the Republicans are at fault as far as not getting anything solved. They would prefer to fight the Democrats than come up with solutions. I think they are at fault for health care as well. When they tore down Clinton's attempt at health care overhaul, they offered no solutions, and they're offering none now. I would still rather have them that Pelosi and Obama but it's getting harder to choose either side.

ok I will be really brief because I could long wind this mother into paragraphs really

I think that business, especially financial institutions talk long term, think short term and need rules to adhere to in order to protect the population who, out of necessity, must use/support industries, from getting fucked by said businesses and financial institutions.

I think that the US economy has turned into a Carny and all of us tax paying slobs are the most popular rubes at the fair :)

See, I'm really a follower of the Austrian School of economics, where I believe politics and government should stay clear of the markets. Realistically speaking, I think that's impossible without some kind of corruption, so I do advocate some kind of oversight. The last thing I want is a big government bailing everybody out, providing services for everybody, and destroying the economy with deficit spending and artificially low interest rates..
