Seriously it was so obvious I really don't understand why it took him so long to come out and say it.

Interesting side note about Ricky Martin and Mexico.
For years, he was personna non grata in Mexico because "they" (they being the heads of the entertainment industry there..and yes, there is such a beast in Mexico), knew he was gay and didn't want him performing in Mexico.

They successfully blocked him for years. Wonder if Mexico is more liberated these days?

Easy--trying to keep up record sales. Unfortunately for him, his career pretty much tanked after that Barbara Walters interview where she sprung the "Are you gay" question on him. He dodged the question. Walters recently admitted that what she did was "inappropriate".

A lot of the Twittersphere thinks this announcement is yet another instance of a celeb coming out conveniently in anticipation of a record release. Similar to Lance Bass. I'm not sure about that theory...

Wasn't there a beatdown of emos in a Mexican city a while back? Of course, many people from many countries would probably share the same anti-emo sentiment...

On my facebook page, one of my now very conservative former classmates (a hot cheerleader 20 years ago) posted; "Wow, ricky martin is gay? I didnt see that one coming!" And she meant it. Cultural conservatives have their heads so far up their asses. I wanted to say something but didn't.
