Ican't justify spending so much money on the damn thing.
Ican't run Windows on it. Ican't bring about world peace with it. |

i got one.
big whoop, it's 499 bucks. i'll play with it for 2 weeks to see what i can do with it and toss it in the corner with the rest of the electronics that go obsolete every week. why both sides are making a big deal about it is beyond me. each new generation will evolve just like the iphone and people will line up to buy them. apple are genius' at marketing and getting people to pay for the same things over and over. way to go steve!!!!!!! lol. |

Ummm, what? Why do people spend hundreds on phones with all the bells and whistles when a Razr phone from the 90s would do? Why do people spend $60k on a BMW when you can get a Honda for $20k? I could go on all day. Why dont you try using one first. Its not just a big iPOD touch, especially after its been hacked. |

It's *all* about the deals with every major book publisher and magazine publisher out there. This is a device for consuming content. There are lots of mp3 players out there, none have the iTunes Music Store. There are lots of phones out there, none have the App Store. There are lots of tablets out there, none have the deals with the publishers, PLUS the refined app store. |

Surely, after a couple of days you could have come up with something, anything bad about it being a large ipad? All you got is that something bigger costs more? Whoa! Quote:
"the practice of claiming to have moral standards or beliefs to which one's own behavior does not conform; pretense." I asked you what was bad about a large ipod touch. You haven't been able to come up with anything, this annoys you, so you call me names. It might frustrate you, but that isn't hypocrisy. I mean, whatever gets you through the day and all. I defend to the death your right to think the iPad sucks and that anyone that likes it is a blithering idiot. But do try and come up with a sensible, practical reason for your hatred. Not just saying 'meh, it costs more'. |

PWNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111oneoneone I HATE 60" TVs!!! THEY COST MORE THAN 32" TVs!!!! FUCKING RIP OFF SONY! FAN BOY IDIOTS! Have your opinion by all means. Hate apple all you like. But at least make the hatred rational. |

Apple wasn't the first to create an app store. Windows Mobile phones and Palm phones have had them for a while. There are plenty of other outlets for music and video and books as well. You can take Steve Jobs dick out of your mouth now. :winkwink: |
give it 6 months and some other company will be out with a superior product. :2 cents:

the tablet idea isn't anything new, but i'll give it to apple that they are always the ones pushing technology to the masses first. it was an inevitable progression. it WILL be popular. i just can't wait for the day that the tech is so cheap that absolutely everything is a giant interactive touchpad. mix that in with, or surpass it with some advanced finger or motion tracking. get some 3d and holograph smashed in there. future world muthafucka.
i'm bored with touchscreen already. i don't even want to touch the screen, THIS is the shit i want brought to the mainstream consumer, but they need to keep working on it for a while.... |
It CAN'T fit in your pocket or man purse.
It CAN'T keep a grease and dirt free screen after your filthy fingers have been all over it. You suckers who ran out and bought the first generation, well, you're suckers. Keep consuming, sheep. |
i do admire apple for its business & marketing accumen. I wish i could charge $500 bucks to a fanbase that will buy anything from me at any price. So what that the device can't print, can manage pics but can't take any. It would seem a rational consumer will wait, let the price come down & the missing features get added. But some people need to fuel their materialistic narcissism. At least BMW builds a better car, unlike apple, who just builds a prettier package.

hp has had REAL tablet pcs for years.
and get this, they actually have usb ports, you can install programs and do more than one thing at once on them!! crazy stuff, i know! |

The problem with the mobile industry 5 years ago was it was run by telecoms people... the only input IT people had was into the billing systems.. Apple's approach was a breath of fresh air into the business.... because even the mighty sony struggled with the personnel and culture they found when they took over ericksson... |
I can't access the app store, the Dutch app store is not supported.... Pffff

Newsflash: Android users are generally more tech savvy. They (we) are always looking for opensource and freeware crap. It is unlikely that we will ever plunk down $1.99 en masse for a fart app. The Android Marketplace will never, ever make as much money as Apple's App Store, not even when Android devices outnumber iPhones and iPads. |
Apple does two things better than anyone else, IMO...
Form Factor Marketing Nobody doubts that apple products look better than just about everything else that's out there. Via great marketing they're able to sell a TON of hardware devices at insane markups. Much of this is do to their devoted fan base touting everything apple does which has a certain effect on the market (just like all the early adoptions). Macs aren't better than PCs... In fact the performance vs cost makes Apple a bad buy... Not to mention when you start factoring in available software. That being said that doesn't mean people won't buy them... I, myself, use a Windows 7 machine and an OS X machine daily. (I also SSH into about 4 or 5 Debian machines daily) The real question is... are you willing to shell out the extra cash to get less performance and less hardware and software options in exchange for the Apple form factor? Many people are and that doesn't mean they are any less intelligent or even "wasting" money. Everything is relative to the amount of cash you have/bring in. I opt for building my own machines and running Windows 7 on them (as of now). I like the cheaper hardware, the additional choices in hardware, and the available software choices. I don't own an iPad or plan on purchasing one until there's a few more features; video camera and usb support primarily... Once those are available the device becomes much more personally useful to me. Until then I can think of some great uses for an iPad as is. Specifically as a college student if most of your books were available in electronic format. Class scheduling, IM, note taking... really some great uses. I just don't fall into a category right now where it's a "must have" for me... Anyway that's my two cents ;) |

1) Mac OSx, especially Leopard and Snow Leopard are light years better than any shit OS MS has released. 2) Available software? Thats a non issue since you can run Windows on any Intel based Mac. Do some research before spouting off useless crap. |

1) Free BSD is not light years ahead of any other OS... OS X is a derivative of BSD. It has almost no support for any other hardware other than apple so... that should tell you something. The size of Windows based OSes and their clunkyness has a lot to do with supporting everything under the sun... When it comes down to it it's how efficiently any particular task is processed... This usually lies not in the OS but in the software itself. For example... take two nearly identical setups, one Windows, one OS X... Now load up a 200MB RAW image and perform some filters / other post processing on them... Windows wins every time. It's really all Adobe's fault here, I'm just sayin... 2) OMG I can run Windows on any mac... sure if I want to a) dual boot or b) run it as a virtual machine... but running anything as a virtual machine adds another layer of abstraction and another layer of cpu cycles as well as additional memory held by the OS... So relax... like I said, I use OSX, Windows 7, and Linux on a daily basis. They all have their strengths and weaknesses... I choose Windows over OSX for many reasons other than the two I listed. It's all personal preference... I merely stated some of my reasons for my own choices... |
Jobs is a brilliant man. He got 300k+ people to buy an unrevolutionary piece of hardware on the first day of release that his team will upgrade with a better feature list for the iPad G2 by the Christmas holiday.
He made the decision to give the iPad with all the failings the iPods/iPhones have with not being able to change the battery, no camera, no external memory card options, no webcam, etc, and not even listen to his apple followers. Why? Because Steve Jobs doesn't give a fuck about anyone. I laugh that this once touted tablet PC device is nothing more than a large iPod with the ablity to use a few new apps like iWorks Lite. |
I think eventually this will be a great product, but for right now I don't see ANY use for an oversized Iphone.

I love this thread. PCs supporters crack me up. We have Macs and Pcs in our office... over 80 of them. The Macs NEVER have a problem. Wish I could say the same about the PCs that we are constantly fixing and replacing. I still have a G4 and a G5 in my office that I use every day and have never had an issue with either. Amazing.
|
Yeah, its a cool concept but not worth it. It appears like its only use is to replace a basic notepad so therefore if it costs more than like $50 its not worth it. Otherwise I am not impressed.
I do love my android phone though because it can fit in my pocket and do MORE than the ipad (ie. multitask lol why cant an ipad do that?). I assume the iphone does approximately the same stuff as an android phone and I cant understand why you would pay more for an ipad that does less. If you want a big screen just use your netbook, which at least has a keyboard so you can type quickly. Until the ipad can do what a laptop can OR becomes very cheap so that it almost disposable so it can be used as the 'pads' in like star trek or any other sci fi show then its not that great. BTW the ipod was awesome until I discovered I can put on internet radio on my phone so I get to listen to new songs all the time without paying for anything and now it sits in my desk drawer. New concepts are awesome until the next new one replaces it. |
