Is the argument that they shouldnt be killed because they are smart ? big ? cute ? or simply because they are animals ? Ever looked at the list of smartest animals ? we kill literally BILLIONS of them every year, infact many of them we consider pests. Ever set out a trap or poison for rats ? They are one of the smartest animals on earth but i bet you have never posted pictures of the cruel inhumane ways we kill rats by the billions every year. Something to think about anyways. Next time you hear a vegetarian giving an animal lecture, remind them that the machines that harvest the soy for their "soy burgers etc " kill , maim ,displace and disfigure millions of some of the smartest animals on earth. |

Just like Greenland and the eskimoes, Faroe Islands is not "in" Denmark. Politically, they are part of the Kingdom (constitutional parliament vote), but they have their own autonomous government and laws. And their have their own culture and traditions. So you can't blame Denmark for that. "Grindadráp" may look cruel when the mass slaughter takes place in one place, but it is nothing compared to the cruelty of bullfights in Madrid.. fox hunting in UK.. or birds from Amazones cut their wings off, so old fat ladies can control them... Maybe you should sign a pertition for stopping pollution instead. Then inhabitants can eat healthy the ressources they heavily depend upon. |

The depravity of the human race is one that saddens me on a daily basis but to see this worthless destruction of these beautiful dolphins soley so these idiots can say we are men is something beyond all evil. Okay first of all we (danes) don't wanna have anything to do with those shit heads, and if it were up to the majority of the danish population we would sell the islands off to Sweden for the price of a new Volvo for the queen.. Unfortunatly the islands aren't worth shit.. And also unfortunatly we can't interfere in anything they do up there no matter how fucking stupid it is.. The Faroe Islands have their own local government and their own prime minister (Lawmaker) and so they are free to do what ever the hell they want. The only thing really tying us together is the monarchy..

This is a practice that must stop. It is a senseless slaughter that usually ends up with wasted whale carcasses that are not even eaten but left to rot. This is purely 'mob' rule rearing its ugly human face once again against harmless creatures. Some so-called 'traditions' must change for the benefit of mankind. On the other side, maybe the mercury poisoning will kill off the Faroese people and we will not have to worry about this absurd hunt!

Actually, you guys might be surprised to know most countries allow whaling still. Just kinda how it is. And yes, It's tradition they've been doing since forever, they aren't gonna stop. At least they kill less of them than they used to... (And no, they don't kill less because the creature is going endangered, they just kill them for tradition). Not sure if they were asked to kill less, or they just do.
Japan's dolphin slaughter is much worse, because it's not once a year, it's like once every few weeks. (Watch 'The Cove'). Pretty much all forms of fishing all over the world are FUCKED, far, far too animals are being taken from the oceans. ehh.. All this shit is depressing. |

It looks like brutal, inhumane slaughter. But what would happen if it were stopped? Would our lives over here be affected? Probably not. Would the people involved have their lives affected? Probably. I'm not sure I agree with any kind of action against people who do this. Yeah, it's barbaric and obviously wrong in our eyes, but what right do we have in enforcing our own brand of right and wrong on other people? They would have to stop it themselves. They obviously see nothing wrong with it, so they think they are right. Right and wrong are always subjective and never universal. And even if they only eat them partially and then leave the rest to rot, that's fine from a natural point of view. That's why food rots to begin with...to return to the ecosystem as nutrients for other living beings. Now, if the process of allowing these half-eaten corpses to rot negatively effects the ecosystem, then that would be cause for alarm.
Summary: I, as well as many others here, see this as wrong. But we don't have the authority to stop them from doing it. The best we can do is simply hope that they will stop. And making a petition for it is unlikely to do squat...it's no different than praying for change. Two hands working can accomplish far more than a thousand hands clasped in prayer, and the same can be said for petition-signing. |
