Based off the mild info in this thread, it appears you know how to pay him... just pay it, your invoice is the email saying he would do the work for that price. You don't need an actual paper that is all pretty with the word invoice on it.

Retainer is no different than if I called up a lawyer and hired them, it just means you pay a guy to listen to your bullshit more... and his one hour of work on retainer, is probably more than the amount owed.

If your lawyer is any good he will tell you this is stupid and when you lose you're going to have to pay the other lawyers fees and probably court costs, then he's probably going to tell you to pay the man and then take $200-300 off the retainer for you wasting his time.

If you really wanted to get paid, and you had that many different options to get a hold of someone, don't you think you would have simply made the effort to be paid? I mean really? In the end, I told him I did not want his code but would pay him anyway to get him to piss off. That also was posted publicly. He never made an effort. This has probably gone 3, 4, 5 rounds now. I have repeatedly, and publicly, offered to pay him.

Some business owners do not pay an invoice if there is no invoice to pay. It's plain and simple record keeping. No invoice, no pay. Pretty simple, IMO.

It's because people do not get you the invoices once you pay them. I have had this issue with many over the years, which is why I now do it this way to make sure I get my docs for taxes.

That said, this guy could have contacted me any number of ways to be paid. I have yet to receive any EMAIL/IM/PM/PHONE CALL from him. Hell, he could have posted it ON THE FORUM and it would have been paid immediately.

Agreed....I tend not to pay without an invoice, I have no issues forcing people to send me an invoice. I do sometimes make acceptations... like one guy couldn't email me, tried from several accounts - so I just paid him.

Now, if someone took something like this to the boards, being that I own my own company, I can bend the rules to end the situation when I know who to pay.

This is round two of the issue... it could have been solved on round one.

End of the day... I can print the job emails as my invoice and hand write who I paid on it, that's still a legal invoice.

Whatever issues I had with Barefootsies has been resolved. While his business practices seem to run a bit "spammy", he no longer has any outstanding debts with me.
