a cop is a cop 24 hours a day. Isnt it their policy to get involved even in off duty? Maybe not for speeding, but if they see crime, I believe they can act.

a quick google search says off duty cops can still issue tickets etc... I always assumed it was part of being a cop. Its not a 9-5 its 24 hours

Yep. I have 2 cops and one detective playing on my team and that’s what they said to me when we had a party at our house. Kinda as a joke, but I got the message.

Best hope he doesn't find out when your next party is and get all pissed at you for not inviting him, then have a few of his on patrol buddies drop by and bust you all anyway.

if you really want to do the right thing and give him an honest, mature response I would tell him this.

Hey, I really enjoy hanging out with you and like being friends but some of my other friends who come over to my house have been known from time to time to smoke weed. I wouldn't want to put you into a situation where you could potentially be around people doing that and it affect your job or get you in any kind of trouble. (reword that into your own words with the same point). See how he responds, he will either say " thanks for thinking of me " and he will stop asking to hang out with you at your house with the other people there or " its ok just tell them to not do it in front of me" or " Im going to raid your house next time you have a party :1orglaugh It will likely be one of the first two .

His statement about arresting anyone smoking weed even in his off time says, to me, two main things:

1) He's close-minded and can't see that all evidence points towards marijuana being harmless... especially when compared against every other drug.

2) He never leaves his job behind so he's one of those guys that thinks he IS the law rather than an "enforcer" of the law.

These two things mean to me... I might have a good time associating with him once in a while but he's no friend of mine... He can stay an acquaintance :P

I am not a big lover of the police. But why is this guy a dickhead? i think all he is saying is that it would be best if he wasnt put in a situation where people are doing illegal activities in front of him.. so if people are likely to smoke illegal weed, then perhaps they can go out back.

At college I used to buy weed from a policeman. Several times he weighed it up in front of me in uniform. Very surreal.

around 5 years ago i was at a party a couple hours from Whistler. hanging out, having some drinks. this guy totally latches on to me. i don't know anyone there other than my gf, so i'm like okay some guy trying to be friendly, no biggie (maybe a little bit weird though, so i'm playing it safe). he's all into my 911, loves cars, we go out with our drinks and just start it up, all good. come back into the house, and my gf is smoking a joint out on the patio. dude FREAKS the fuck out. grabs it out of her mouth and throws it on the ground. i was half a second away from punching him in the back of the head when his gf grabs my arm and tells me he's rcmp. i was very lucky. anyway, he started yelling at his gf about bringing him into these situations, and then stormed off, drunk, in to his car. trippy experience.

Cops aren't retarded. They realize that pot isn't a big deal like harder 'drugs'. Hell, if you get pulled over and are honest that you have some weed on you, they will probably just dump, smash it with their foot and send you on your way. If you lie or are an ass about it, then they will fuck you.

I've hung out with a few that know I smoked weed, they didn't give a shit. A deputy sheriff that I knew seen me parked in a gas station parking lot while my friend went in and pissed. I was in the driver's seat and drunk off my fucking ass (I know it was fucking retarded of me). He came up to my window and said hey, then realized I was shitfaced and just laughed about it and walked away. Some cops are cool as hell.

Tell him that if he turns his head for the weed smoking, you'll turn your head when he drives home drunk.

In all seriousness, if the guy is high up, he has a lot more pressure on him. He can't exactly tell his boys not to bust a party he's at and there is no guarantee it won't be busted.

No big deal you say, but there was a news article posted earlier describing a SWAT team breaking into a house to seize illegal pot.

A cop came to one of my poker parties and he let me know that the pot smokers were getting on his nerves. He was considering making a call... I reminded him that gambling is illegal...
