How can you be from Russia if you're born in America?

If you are born in this country, you are American. Not Russian. Not Finnish. Not Danish. Not French. Not Mongolian. We aren't conceived in the womb as Russian or American. Where you are born is important.

If a group of people take off in a rocket and go to another planet, and then have a few babies, are they Russian or American babies? Or are they new citizens of the planet they are on? Russia and America are a few billion light years away from them and have zero relevance.

If you're born here by Russian parents (Russian Citizens) and you leave to go back and live in Russia, you're not an American Citizen, you will be a Russian Citizen that was born in America. If they stayed here, did all the goodies like say some illegals do - that would be different.

I agree, but being "illegal" or "legal" is only a matter of a piece of paper. Same as being "married" or "not-married", organ donor or not-an-organ-donor, licensed driver or unlicensed non-driver, etc... . It doesn't hinge on whether your parents were white people from Ohio or hispanic people from Juarez.

As a US citizen, I can apply for the proper docs to become a Mexican citizen, and still retain my US Citizenship. Mexico's laws prohibit me from ever voting in their elections even as a new citizen, but I have no idea what the options are if I were to have a child in Mexico (in that scenario). Would they be granted full dual-citizenship with voting rights in both countries? I have no clue.

EDIT: I'm sure this is happening all the time, since there are millions of Americans living in Mexico with dual citizenship, I just don't know the answer.

If you were born in the USA from let say Russian parents, you have a choice to select one or keep both citizenships on your 18th birthday.

Special situations today... normally you have be born before 1975. My dad can claim citizenship in the UK because he was born in the UK, however he's only a U.S. Citizen. He didn't become a UK citizen simply because he was born in the UK, but because he was born before 1975 he can request it.

Mexico has 2 different categories - mexican citizens and mexican nationals.

I know plenty of people with dual citizenships. They use US passport to get out of the country and use the other one to enter the country they are from.

I know one guy that served in Afghanistan and went on to serve with some bad ass Rangers. When he was 9 month old, he was adopted by American parents from Columbia. Army found out and made him renounce his Columbian citizenship. he has never been to Columbia or ever held Columbian passport BUT he was a dual citizen.

I get plenty of Countries and history of changes when I do my research... Hell even a simple search like: dual citizenship and 1975 returns various Countries of current time that have this set, looks like Canada recently updated to0.
