A generation is the time from the birth of a child to the birth of that child's first child. It varies from family to family, and can range from 20 years (or less) to 40 (or more, in rare cases). While the usual accepted length is between 20 and 25 years, this tends to be too short (which, estimating large numbers, can cause problems). Quite notable is the fact that, in general, the female generation length is shorter than the male generation length, because males are usually older than females in couples. Females average around 28, and males average around 32. The difference, however, is highly culture-dependent, and may have been a bit different hundreds or thousands of years ago. Where it used to be considered reasonable to estimate about 4 generations per century for purposes of genealogy calculations, it is now considered more reasonable to estimate 3 generation per century- even for older estimations. |

That's the problem at hand - it's not logical and it's being abused because it's not clear enough. It should be changed how the majority of other Countries have it, which doesn't include allowing illegals or those breaking laws to become citizens. |

If one parent is black and the other is white, you're half black or half white... if you're parents are illegal and you being born here makes you a citizen, you're half legal or a half illegal or maybe only a 1/3 legal - ouch. Depending on how you view the cup. |

If one of your parents is a convict does it make you a 1/2 convict? I would like to see you pushing that to some black kids on the streets of LA. See what they think. If that was the case your kids would be 2/3 retarded. There are some stupid fucks on this board, but you hold the crown. |
Sorry Doc, you are way, way out in left field on this one. (or rather, right field)

150 Half Illegals
"Half illegal"? :1orglaugh If they are half illegal, and the punishment for being an illegal is deportation, how do you propose to half punish them? Make them live on the border? Alternate years of deportation? They can live here every other year and have to live in Mexico the other half? That's a POV that went off the rails. |
Good.
If you are from Russia and you are born in America, you are still a fucking Russian. People need to deal with that and stop being cry babies. |

Congrats, you just beat "half-illegal" for dumbest thing posted in this thread. |

If you are born in this country, you are American. Not Russian. Not Finnish. Not Danish. Not French. Not Mongolian. We aren't conceived in the womb as Russian or American. Where you are born is important. If a group of people take off in a rocket and go to another planet, and then have a few babies, are they Russian or American babies? Or are they new citizens of the planet they are on? Russia and America are a few billion light years away from them and have zero relevance. |

where does dual citizenship fit into all of this?
|
Quote:
As a US citizen, I can apply for the proper docs to become a Mexican citizen, and still retain my US Citizenship. Mexico's laws prohibit me from ever voting in their elections even as a new citizen, but I have no idea what the options are if I were to have a child in Mexico (in that scenario). Would they be granted full dual-citizenship with voting rights in both countries? I have no clue. EDIT: I'm sure this is happening all the time, since there are millions of Americans living in Mexico with dual citizenship, I just don't know the answer. |

If you were born in the USA from let say Russian parents, you have a choice to select one or keep both citizenships on your 18th birthday. |
