I keep trying to look into the crowd to see how many of them there are, and while it sounds like everyone has one it's really nowhere near close to that.

I watched my first full game last night, what a pain in the fucking brain those horns are.

Ban them I say!

networks should just tune out that frequency.. its a steady tone not hard to do, if i had a digital equalizer i would do it my self...

funny part is there aren't very many people in the world that enjoy that noise/sound.. so why they let it continue? they enjoy inflicting the hearing damage/headaches on everyone?

Inside the game, no. But beleive you me there are thousands of them outside every stadium as well, blowing the hell out of them constantly, probably for blocks in all directions.

50k per game could well be a very conservative estimate in light of that.

I think they have, at least the CBC feed I get is somewhat improved since a few days ago. You can actually hear the British announcers now, but on Friday the buzzing sound was literally blasting out my TV speakers all but drowning out the commentators.

It's better, but still annoying.

They need to cut that off. I can't watch it any more. I thought this was only the case with RSA team but they are still blowing it in every game.

czech team is not there so i have been watching it only for the show, but i gave up, bye and cant wait for next world cup in country with normal people! :)

I didn't take that into effect, but I kept trying for the life of me to figure out why I wasn't seeing many of them...but the fucking buzzing wasn't stopping at all the entire game.

A couple of problems with your post. For one, it's their culture? These plastic horns have only been around and showing up at sporting events just in the last couple of decaces, how big a part of their history/culture can they be?

Secondly, just that -- plastic horns have been around for 20-odd years. A few fans used to bring them to my nephew's hockey games and blow them when a goal was scored. The odd NHL fan carries one to their team's games. You hear them blown the odd time at Olympic events, there were several at the curling matches for example. My point is they're already here and have been for a long time, but, and pardon my bluntness here, but sporting fans over here in N America don't generally abide by something like this getting so fucking out of hand that no one can enjoy the game.

Like I said in another thread, send a bunch of S African hornblowers to a Raider game and you'd see a lot of bent vuva-whatevers and probably a lot of busted up S Africans thrown from the seats and lying dead on the sidelines.

People here tend to tell other people to shut the hell up when they get out of hand with the hornblowing, or any other constant annoying noises for that matter.

Players are complaining they can't concentrate, can't hear each other on the field and can't sleep (because ppl are blowing them in the streets at all hours) due to the vuvuzelas

A few people were talking about that on the radio here last night. There was a theory it was being pumped in but maybe it is just that clusters of them go a long way to making the noise when in a stadium.

i can't believe it, FIFA says the stupid things are here to stay. They have to be insane, I've never seen/heard anything like this is any sport in my lifetime. What a sackless wonder that FIFA dude is.

To the people who keep saying turn the sound off that's absolutely retarded, the sound of the crowd and the players on the field and the announcers is part of the whole experience. People always bitch about announcers, the NFL has experimented a couple times broadcasting games with no announcers - it sucks.

If I was a big soccer fan I'd suffer through the jacked up sound of the world's largest swarm of bees but I'm not, I'm like most North Americans, a very casual soccer fan only during the World Cup. I won't be watching until elimination games where major countries are involved or the US.
