Congratz :thumbsup

Very nice to outline your methods. You mention,

"So no sugar, ice cream ,cake and starches."

As I look back I also see it is not lack of exercise that makes/keeps one fat, it is what you eat.

Not even so much how much you eat, but what you eat. You pretty much have to go cold turkey or have bare minimum sugar around.

It is more about the liver converting excess blood sugar and glycogen to fat than it is calories.

Ture story. I once gained 10 LBs in one week, The only thing diff in my calories was although I was not eating lightly in other areas but the one thing I did diff that week: Was eat a whole cake, (no frosting) in 48 hours on a Wednesday-Thursday.

On Sunday I step on the scale. 10 LBs. I expected ok maybe a LB. It was converted to fat that week! Had nothing to do with calories. I would have had to consume 35,000 calories in theory to put on 10 LBs.

They say you must consume 3500 cals over and above what you burn to put on a LB. But in reality it doesnt work that way.

I think some of us are truley addicts to sugar at least psychologicly and are also hyper sensitive and put wt on real easy from sugar.

It is what you eat and you named them. Sugar being the worst with starches #2.

All one needs to do is go on the

"don't buy it diet"

But I feel something is going to happen I guess :error if I dont get at least a little sugar of some type. But is there indeed such a thing as just a little poisen as you say.

Cause I have always eaten sugar. I belieived a little could do no harm. It is only say less than 300 calories a day. But it doesnt work that way.

Someone should post a poll as to how much sugar a day do you eat. Would be interesting. I would like to eat none.. for a long while.. someday.. and see what happens. :)

Anyhow, way to go :thumbsup

My (it isnt exercise you need) theory was also proven when I worked at Dominos for a few years. I went in thin and came out 6 years later a few over. Very physical job too. You walk all over.

But those "crew pies" there at all times. :) .. forget about it. You eat that you will be fat even if you are Bill Rogers.

I actually gain wt when I exercise. True. I do 2 days yard work say 3 hours each day. Mowing, walking all that. I think at night. NOW, i can have a bit more pizza, a couple more sugar delights.. I'm fucking STARVING :) I gain 2 lbs the next day.

So it is all very tricky. :)

You look amazing Tony. Congrats on the weight loss. Tell your beautiful wife I said hi. :thumbsup

iseeyou 06-17-2010 01:11 AM

That's an amazing story, Tony. Congratulations.

sounds like you are doing a great job. Let me add my personal story. Over the past 15 months, I have been very slowly losing weight. I dont even weigh myself. I just look at myself in the mirror and check how comfortable my pants fit.

The hardest part, in my opinion, is to resist your hunger. If you can resist your hunger, then weight loss is almost guaranteed, even without exercising.

My strategy is .... try to stay away from the supermarket. This means --- dont stock up on food (and risk eating it too soon). Only buy the food that you will eat that day (if possible). You will get a little extra exercise by going out (especially walking) to a cheap cafe or cheap restaurant every day to eat (you can buy some take out food there too if you want for dinner). You can order something for delivery but try to order healthy food (which is not so easy). If you do go to the supermarket, only buy what you will eat that day (and night). maybe buy 2 days of food max. The point is to not keep too much tempting food at home. I used to buy only 1 day of food max but now I am buying 2 days of food max.

The most important part of my strategy is ..... keep track of what you eat each day. Dont reduce your food intake too quickly. Your appetite will be too strong and you risk overeating when severe hunger pains kick in.

Every week or every few weeks (whenever you feel capable), slightly reduce the amount which you eat one day. And then eat that way for a few days or weeks until you are comfortable with it and experience no serious hunger pains.

Just continue reducing your food intake every week or two (or month or two) until you are down to the weight you want to be. Slow and steady. In my opinion, better to diet slowly than starve yourself and end up going on a feeding frenzy.

My diet is so slow, I probably only lost 1-2 pounds per month (average) over the past 15 months. May not be the best diet for you but it works for me.

I have to say its guys like you that inspire me to keep losing my weight. I started about a month and a half ago and am already down 25 lbs. I have about 55 more to lose. Seeing someone lose 167lbs is true dedication. I definitely feel better, have more energy and all around just have a higher self-esteem. Keep up the good work I am sure you will be down to your goal weight in no time.

Peaches 06-17-2010 02:59 PM

It isn't prying..I talk openly about it because if somebody had done so around me at an earlier age I would have found out sooner and been able to focus on what I need to do for my own body.

Yes, I have to work extra hard. I have polycystic ovarian syndrome coupled with insulin resistance (often the two go together). In a lot of people with those conditions it is sort of a cycle where the condition makes it easy to gain and hard to lose weight but then the extra weight makes the conditions worse and so it goes.

My way around it has been to eat to control my insulin. I am not diabetic but since I do have insulin issues I have gone to a more vegetable and wholegrain based diet that provides me with slow burning foods. This keeps my insulin levels stable and keeps me feeling fuller for longer. Plus, it is just healthier anyway.

I very rarely eat anything processed these days because I am be sure that if I do it is packed with sugars that sends my levels crazy and then I get shaky hungry pretty shortly afterwards. I can see how that became an issue as I came through puberty and the ovary issue kicked in (my sister also had ovary issues but in a much more dramatic fashion that saw one of hers removed at six months old..nobody knew to look in my direction sadly) coupled with not eating as healthy as I should have been at that age. I was on every diet you can imagine as a kid and a teenager but the weight moved so slowly I can see why I would feel it wasn't working and stopped the diet.

Once I decided to just make it how I live and figured out the 'rules' for my body the weight came off even if it is much slower that it would come off for other people. I also count calories pretty religiously which is why it becomes frustrating when I have been stalled for this long because I know what I am eating and it *shouldn't* be too much.

I have done a lot of my weight loss with the supervision of a nurse that has special training with PCOS and she thinks that since I stopped birth control at about the same time I started to stall with the weight loss the two are connected and I should just wait for my hormones (which after all PCOS is all about) to work themselves out and eventually things will move again. Hope so but at least nothing has come back on.

Sarah_Jayne 06-18-2010 05:14 AM

Amazing stuff Tony ..well done!
