Speaking of LA air. Well air is air - if you are in LA you can't ask someone to clear the air, but at least you can ask someone to move the cig. Meaning smelling only bad air is still better than smelling both bad air plus ciggarette on top of that.

bullshit...passive smoking is the nonsmokers ace up their sleeve to make every bad a smokers fault...this has been proven time and time again...

as for standing near me outside...move...you bitched to get me out of the building so its all yours...go back inside....if you care to see the great outdoors then you have to deal with a smoker that might be out there..cant have your cake and eat it too....granted i am one of those polite smokers and have asked ppl if they mind if i smoke here or there....but come into my smoking area and then complain about smokers...fuck off...its not like im blowing it into your face...i had a guy use his 7yr old and said "are you going to smoke out here, my 7yr doesnt want to get cancer with her dinner"..fuck off..as hes sitting that precious 7yr old down next to a roaring smoking fire while eating that processed crap of a dinner...(ONLY because there was a kid there IN THE SMOKING AREA...did i move away...as for the father i would of blown smoke at him all night for being such a pussy when asking...dont hide behind your child)

and yes you can ask to clean the LA air...its called cleaner cars, cleaner exhaust, cleaner factories, etc....so dont cry you cant do anything about the BIGGER picture and all you can do is complain about the little guy smoking...thats malarkey

They can increase the price and put nasty cancer pics all over the box and Canucks will still buy them.

So they should show liver cancer on all booze bottles too? It doesn't mean a pinch of shit if they put pix on the packs if you're addicted to cigarettes

Spunky 06-22-2010 04:46 PM

I'm going to smoke and die with my nasty disgusting habit if I want to

cosis 06-22-2010 10:01 PM

Glad I quit 2 years ago. Still smoke the occasional cigar.

link or proof? I get my cigs from Ukraine @ $20/carton straight from the factory.... don't remember the last time I bought them at a store.

If you're buying BRANDED (Marlboro) you have more protection than purely local labels. Regardless, tobacco from developing countries are cheaper. Here's why it's cheaper in developing countries:

Quote:

Pesticide use in the United States is still a threat to both public health and the environment, despite having some of the world's strongest regulations in place. In most developing countries, the problems associated with the use of pesticides are exponentially worse.27 As Dr. Lori Ann Thrupp of the World Resources Institute writes, "Most developing countries lack the political will and resources to devote attention to the hazards of pesticides, and are often pressured by pesticide firms to allow unfettered marketing."28 In these countries, government agencies and pesticide companies rarely provide information to growers about the dangers of pesticides. As a result, farmers in developing countries are often unaware of the hazards and of the need to use protective equipment. Such gear is rarely available due to its high cost, and even when available is seldom used in hot climates. In poor rural areas in many developing countries, it is common to see farmers wearing short pants and short-sleeved shirts while mixing and applying pesticides.
Quote:

To ensure an endless supply of inexpensive cigarettes and cigars and high profits for tobacco companies, millions of pounds of toxic chemicals are being used on millions of acres of land around the world--land that in most cases could be used to grow food. Viewed in a global context, tobacco not only endangers the lives of smokers, it threatens the health and well-being of millions of tobacco farmers and workers in countries around the world. Concerned U.S. citizens should rightly question the sustainability and the sanity of the tobacco industry, at home and abroad.
Alarming as the last paragraph above may seem, that's only for US and Western companies mutlinationals that subscribe to regulations and more often than not. The higher risk comes from local monopoly brands who may or may not subscribe to the same quality/process/international standards.

That is an expensive habit. I guess now is as good a time as any to quit.

Miz_Wright 06-23-2010 08:07 AM

I was a pack a day smoker for 23 years; I quit in January, just after Vegas.

It blew goats. I was mean as a snake and a JOY to be around for the first few days.

Many of my friends are smokers - and I have no problem with that choice. Hell, I still like to smell it. It's a hell of an addiction, and it's tough to beat - no other addiction is tacitly allowed to be indulged at such regular intervals except, perhaps, caffeine. Can you imagine someone cooking down a spoon of heroin after a meal? Excusing themselves from a conversation with a blithe "I'll be right back, I need to blow a rail"?

Same thing. Only when someone does that with smoking, we kinda go "oh, ok, sure - see you in a few!"

Addiction is a bitch and a half, whether it's smoking, booze, food, drugs, or fucking.

For those of you that have gone cig-free that have smoked on a regular basis, how do you handle the occassional beer or whiskey, do you even think......

The cig sure tastes better with a beer doesnt it ? :)

You can do it. Start by putting your pack and lighter on top of the fridge, then go to your office upstairs, or in the other room or whereever. Why? Because. When you do your automatic reach for a smoke, you'll have to THINK and then walk in there and choose it, or choose to put it off a while yet.

Keep leaving them somewhere else so you'll have to do this until you're sick of it. Then stop buying them.

I smoked for 30 some years and had a heart attack at 42. Quitting before that happens is preferable since many dont get a second chance.

Nice. I love how they charge you almost 100 bucks if you would like to become an affiliate. Maybe we should all start doing that.

Axzar 06-23-2010 08:59 AM

.75 cents a pack here. I wish they were $25.

saucygirl 06-23-2010 09:08 AM

That nasty habit is getting more expensive and if that isn't enough of a motivator for people to quit then they can just happily drop dead of lung cancer broke.

I feel similar about people that eat candy. They can quit or happily let their teeth rot out of their heads.

LOL They want $50 for a carton shipped. I can get them in Virginia for just over 40 at most. Even cheaper with coupons. :upsidedow

Secondhand smoke can kill your heart:

People who breathe in a lot of other people's tobacco smoke are twice as likely to die from heart disease as those exposed to lower levels of "secondhand" smoke, according to a British study.

I quit smoking like two or three years ago.

I still smoke every now and then in the rare event a friend who smokes comes over or I'm at a show I might by a pack. But after the third smoke I'm like "This sucks" and "why am I doing this" and then "why did I ever do this".

I smoked for like 25 years.

That's fucking insane!

VHNet 06-23-2010 06:47 PM

that's why i switched to:

http://www.socialbranding.org/sb/images/stories/cam.jpg

....at some price point, expect to find the "underground" mafia selling cigarettes again from the back of trucks for 40$/carton :)

blonda80 06-23-2010 09:48 PM

that sucks :(

Agent 488 06-23-2010 09:53 PM

costs that much in canada. didn't stop anything. addicts will pay. smuggled cigs are too ghetto and hard to come by everyday.
