I'd like to recommend a few things for packages to deployed troops... the top 5 things to get in the mail when you're deployed (from when I was an 0311/8541 in the USMC anyway):

Home made cookies
Trail Mix
Beef Jerky
Mrs. Dash (Great when you have to eat MREs day in and day out)
Porn, seriously...

milambur 07-02-2010 09:35 AM

Kind of sad priorities, the people in Afganistan is suffering and you want us to help out a soldier that earns 1000x the average afgan, with movies and candy bars....

If you read the letter and not just the title and then follow your Hollywood/Media leaders, you would see that he is helping Afghans... giving them medical aid because I can tell you they don't have that out there...

Im not personally against supporting troups.....however

You dont sign up to the military and expect to never go to war.
Or that is you shouldent....

There are a lot of stupid comments in this thread. When you are in the military you go where they send you. You don't have a choice. Our military members puts their life on the line, I like to see some of you in here do that. It is easy to sit at home behind your desk and act like a jackass. You would probably piss your pants if you had to actually do something like fight in a war.

Good for you Loryn for doing this. Ignore the moron's that can't or refuse to understand why you are doing this.

Yes every body expects that... you sign up to help protect your country, that is what every person is every military in every country does...

As a great man once said, Paul Tibbets, and I seriously doubt you will even begin to understand what this means but I not just writing it for you...

Let it be understood that I feel a sense of shame for the whole human race, which through all history has accepted the shedding of human blood as a means of settling disputes between nations... ALL HISTORY America didn't discover war or invent wars if you study history it has been going on since man first picked up a fucking rock and hit his neighbor on the head for something he didn't like...

It smells of hypocrisy when self-proclaimed humanitarians [YOU] draw a distinction between an acceptable and an intolerable brand of human cruelty. Let those who honestly desire peace among nations also condemn ALL FORMS of international terrorism that are meant, by their perpetrators, to set the stage for war...

Yeah I'm ignorant for not supporting killers occupying another country. I have family and friends over there, yet I still don't support the troops. They have free will and can choose not to pick up their weapons.

Good luck Loryn you're obviously going to need it.

mgtarheels 07-02-2010 12:02 PM

I don't understand how people are saying things like "they're not responsible for being there", "they don't have a choice to be there", etc.

The military is voluntary and they knew damn well what could happen.

Fact is, the troops are puppets, plain and simple.

Protect the country from what? Is the USA under attack? Don't be retarded.

The US forces are currently occupying other countries with only one purpose: to grab control over natural resources.

They are dumb puppets and are being used by the political elite for their personal agendas and gain.

If you have any old magazines laying around let me know too... they might cost 5 or 10 bucks to send, but when a mag is about 4 or 5 bucks a piece to buy it's makes up for it... haha

I am a veteran, and I didn't pick where I went, or where they sent me. I went where my orders told me, and so are they.
I give a piece of my disability check each month to the USO to help soldiers and their families.
My donation doesn't help the war effort. It goes to making the soldiers life a bit easier.
A couple months ago, our donations gave 19 units entertainment items. Xbox's, dvd players, dvds, laptops, air conditioners etc.

I am not gonna say anything about the ignorance in this thread because people can think whatever they want and voice accordingly. But in regards to the task at hand, shipping with the APO priority mail boxes are 2 dollars cheaper to send and you can order the supplies online for free.

https://shop.usps.com/webapp/wcs/sto...egory=10000002

My Man was deployed for a year recently and I did more than my share of making sure him and his battle buddies had everything they needed. Well I tried :) . I was sending boxes a few times a month. I think only once I sent a bigger box and the price was not bad. I am going try to shoot you a donation in a few days.

Been sending love and DVD's to the Marines for years with the help of a few studios and a cam company that set up some special shows just for the GI's. They really appreciate babywipes and good socks as well.

For those of you who travel a lot, those hotel shampoos, soaps, etc. are also a great commodity for the troops. You can collect a nice batch from just a short trip and the maids will also give you some extras each day if you leave em a couple bucks.

Kudos to you Loryn! I don't support war, but I do appreciate these men and women who are putting their lives on the line everyday.

p.s. even sending stuff to a few individuals on base here in the US, they take a lot of the stuff and share them with their troop, the infantry men really appreciate it and its good for morale.

Actually, I think my sister who is a Sgt in the AF and my brother who is a Lt in the AF would disagree with you. Pretty confident I hear more about the things going on over there than you.

You TRULY believe we're not benefiting from the oil they have? If that's the case, please explain the over 100k barrels missing per day.

Please also explain why you think we're over there.

Thanks girl... that is all it's about those guys... they are great and I love them all...

I have so much stuff coming I am so happy... when it gets here I am going to take pics and do shot outs to everyone before I mail it out...

I was thinking of going to a hotel, being that I am in Vegas it wouldn't be hard to get one of them to do it... and asking for some mini commodities... I could just walk through the hall ways and ask the maids haha Have a couple cocktails, and roam the halls... haha

But there are so many people attending shows and stuff there has to be someone with a butt load of those things... haha if you have them let me know, and you want to give them up haha
