African nations have been known to be chokers in soccer and just terrible penalty kick takers. I'm kinda glad though because I was going to feel so bad for Suarez. He did what he had to do to save the game. But now Uruguay has to play Holland without their leading scorer.

Based on today's play I don't see Uruguay getting by the NL, with or without their leading scorer.

I didn't say there was no chance for Uruguay, I just said I don't see them getting past the NL.

And I don't.

But who knows, maybe they'll surprise me.

You gotta give credit to Ghana for that though, they played their hearts out. And I think Forlan and Suarez would have given the Holland defense trouble.

Ghana played great and could easily have put this game away on several occasions in the 2nd half AND in the 30 minute OT. The missed penalty kick in the dying seconds is downright scandalous.

And I'm sure Uruguay WILL give the NLs some trouble here and there, I just think based on what I've seen of the two teams that the Dutchies will take it.

Either way this is already a world cup to remember.

I'll add this though: IF for some reason FIFA continues with their mental breakdown and they don't institute a system for instant replay for both challenge and review, then when 2014 rolls around I think countries should start backing out and withholding their teams. Yes it's that big a deal. These obvious missed calls and obvious goals not counted is just needless and absurd.

Even pro tennis has instant replay/challenge. TENNIS!

THY 07-02-2010 03:13 PM

i dont think there was much difference in the match..
and that last penalty was initiated from a fault that never happened by fucile...
anyways GO URUGUAY CARAJO!!!

and as seen in this match - anyone can win on uy-nl

Yeah the final minutes for any Uruguay or Ghana fan had to be very intense. I think that Uruguay needs a miracle to beat Holland and end up in the final, but you never know!

funny how the handball + red card ended up saving them.lol

I completely agree. They should back out until FIFA institutes some kind of technology. I've watched every world cup since 1994 and this has been the worst.. Not only because of the refs and lack of technology, but the quality of play isn't what it once was, especially in the 90s when you had SOOOO many superstars actually performing.

J. Falcon 07-02-2010 07:08 PM

Go Uruguay!!!

I watched the game at El Chivito de Oro, a restaurant owned by Uruguayans in Jackson Heights, NY. It was like being back in Montevideo. Countless Uruguayans everywhere and the celebration after the game was just amazing!!

That hand ball was cheating, plain and simple. Unsportsmanlike.

Wtf are you talking about it? Suarez did what he had to do and he took one for the team. I applaud him for that.

react 07-02-2010 08:18 PM

I understand the rules but that doesn't make this shit right.

You'd be cool if your team was on the receiving end of this nonsense?

Did you lose all your bets?

My damn DVR cut off the game at the beginning of OT. :(

its part of the game, all came from a fault that never existed.. its not fair but it happened..
then they missed the penalty... their fault..

it seems like it takes more than the referees help to beat uruguay ;)

He got ejected from the game and from the next one, what more do you want? How can you call this unfair? Ghana had a 1 in a million chance at the end of that game and they blew it. There was nothing unfair about it.

Amen to that bro!

This match just confirms me in why I never usually watch football. It is just another parody in a series.
Football is a sport with no fair play, no honor and no sportsmanship. It's a game where it is only about to win, not how you win.

Watching the players celebrate after this "win" really gave a bad taste. I would have been ashamed, but it demonstrates fine the mentality amongst football players.

Applauding cheat just shows the personality of some people here as well but I am not surprised. It is GFY after all.

What the hell are you talking about? Soccer is the epitome of sportsmanship and fair play, it's just a lot of teams have developed their "bullshit" over the years. It certainly beats any other sport out there.

And why would you have been ashamed? The definition of sportsmanship is doing all you can to win, within the scope of the rules. Suarez sacrificed himself so his team could have a chance to move on and he paid the price for it, which was a suspension. I would have done the exact same thing. This isn't the "hand of God" that Maradona pulled. Suarez did it blatantly and knew he was going to be sent off. Blame Ghana for choking.

xxweekxx 07-03-2010 11:14 AM

dude this is the same shit as someone taking cheap hard fouls in NBA so their opponent dont score.... the guy gets free throws so he has to bank them in and score

same shit here, the guy had to bank his PK and he didnt

it looks like you had never played any kind of sport at all... :/
