I have a cat, and I love cats, I treat mine like I would my own child, and if anyone tossed my cat around liek that I would do to them what I would do to the person who tosses my child around. The only time I have ever did anything to my cat was when she went nutzoid and clawed my fiance's eyes. Gave her a slap on the head and threw her out of the bedroom for a time-out. She clawed me once when I kissed her, she woke up and freaked and clawed my nose wide open, so I slapped her. Both being slaps that woudln't even leave a bruise on a niple. Her and I have a good relationship, she loves me, and hates my fiance :)

I have two cats who are usually 15 minutes ahead of my time.

If you can mentally get in tune with a cat, they will stay around you and be loyal for several years (can be good or bad haha).

Count on a 10 year life span at least if you love your kitty. :)
