I have a daughter that lives in another state with her mom. 2 or 3 years ago my mom wanted to get my daughter a webcam for x-mas cause they had one and wanted to talk with her on it. I talked her out of it cause I know what teenage girls do on webcams and even if I know my daughter is smarter than that I also know the peer pressure out there so my mom changed her mind.

For christmas this last year I gave her a 15" mac book pro and they have cams built in but she was 17 and a half and figured she is mature enough to have a webcam.

I hope one of the teachers in her school calls CPS so they can investigate. Her parents are clearly responsible for all of this. You can't blame an eleven year old for doing stupid things. Our frontal lobes aren't even properly developed until the late teens.

She is doing LOTS of things that are inappropriate for an eleven year old. She is displaying over sexualized behaviour which could be because she has unsupervised access to the internet all the time. It isn't hard to imagine what certain adults have been saying to her when she is on her webcam unsupervised.

She might have been sexually abused which also results in eleven year olds acting in exactly this kind of way in school, with their peers, around adults, and on the internet.

But her parents reaction to all of this was completely wrong. It is unbelievable that they thought that making another webcam video would make any of this better. They need some parenting training & the entire family needs therapy.

I don't think the family understand technology enough to think the webcam was anything more than a way of making a fancy phone call rather than something that would be recorded.

They might not understand the scope of the internet or what 4chan is. But they knew their daughter was doing things on the internet, like talking about certain things on her webcam, that caused people to start stalking & bullying her.

Obviously the worst possible way to resolve this situation was to allow their daughter to broadcast herself again on the internet & join her on webcam! If their daughter was mocked for saying certain things on webcam, it stands to reason that she will be mocked even more when her parents start doing the same thing as her.

These aren't people who need to be educated about technology & the internet. They need parenting classes & therapy.

Someone who lives local to her did, hopefully they take it seriously.
