Pure myth.
The big powerhouse mainstream advertising agencies / design studios were & are fully capable of constructing successful campaigns without looking to porn for ideas. The porn studios aren't even in the same league.

I thought they unleashed the black dude on a horse in the bathroom etc during a super bowl premiere commercial campaign? Thats hardly *just* viral marketing, right? It's something with massive brand recognition before anyone even see's it.

I've used old spice since forever anyway, and I dont care for the recent commercials. They're just silly. So anyway.. my toast awaits.

That's correct.

The Old Spice commercial premiered during the last Super Bowl.

So according to the OP the adult industry is stupid for not thinking of putting a commercial for a solo girl site on TV during the Super Bowl :winkwink:

I'm not saying they should put the girls (or guys) in a towel with Old Spice sticking out of the side but it was a simple, easy to pull off campaign that would have led to millions of dollars in sales for this industry. Unfortunately, it seems that all of the creative motherfuckers left years ago.

Tell the truth, what's the last innovative thing you've seen from this industry?

Blogs - Years behind everyone else and still doing them wrong.

RSS - Years behind everyone else and still doing it wrong.

Tubes - Years behind YouTube and still doing it wrong.

How long has it been since you've seen anything marketed in anything resembling a creative or unique way? When is the last time you've seen a paysite offer a new tour / join page or a webcam site offer promotional material worth two shits?

Exactly, this industry needs a good tazering. :winkwink:

interesting post!

a bit off topic, but what's the deal with you and sleazy?

Come on Amp, we all know that porn invented PHP, SQL, Flash, high speed download, and
the "window.open" command in javascript.
Of course porn invented search engine technology because we wanted to be
found. Google is just a cheap rip off of our original algorithms.

And did you notice how mainstream sites all started using our CJ scripts to
build traffic?

My porno tube script would have sold millions if youtube hadn't copied it!

Porn had complete control over Wordpress before these mainstreamers start making
blogs and shit!

In 2004 Lensman gave Sleazy Dream admin or mod privileges for a day. He had already been sparring with me because I laughed at his attempts to come off as an innovator / smart guy in the business (site is still 1998 fabulous!) and he decided to edit my posts to say something completely different. I don't remember what it was 6 years later but I changed all of my locations to 'Fuck Sleazy' and left GFY. Someone hacked my account about 6 months later and I didn't get the password back until yesterday.

I don't hate the fucker, he's just not 1% of the intelligent playa he tried to come off as. I wouldn't punch him in his fat head if I saw him in public or anything. :winkwink:

But, but, that's why you came back.....You're here to change all that...it's your density. I mean... your destiny.

Most webmasters' idea of marketing is to give content away for free.

Given the current state of affairs that's not such a bad idea if done correctly.

I just saw a piece on MSNBC reporting that despite the viral nature of Old Spice's recent campaigns and popularity, they are down 7% in sales. Bummer.

"According to Nielsen data provided by Old Spice, overall sales for Old Spice body-wash products are up 11 percent in the last 12 months; up 27 percent in the last six months; up 55 percent in the last three months; and in the last month, with two new TV spots and the online response videos, up a whopping 107 percent."

mynameisjim 07-27-2010 07:44 PM

So some reports say sales are down and some say sales are up.

The ones that say sales are up were supplied to by Old Spice after articles starting surfacing that sales were down 7%.

Hmmmm?

I still say the ads didn't accomplish what they needed to, and that was to reinvent the brand for a new generation. If this was a NEW product, the ad campaign would have been a huge success. But Old Spice already had near 100% name recognition, what they needed was a new image, and I'm not sure if the ads did that.
