Well, you probably have a better idea towards the answer than most people and know there are indeed a few still around. Though, I do think most people will call 'whale' at much lower numbers these days.

what is a determining factor in todays market to call someone a whale?

In the real ocean there are whales of various sizes. The 100 per day ones are still around but the vast majority of those that I deal with never touch the boards. I would say it is more common for the 50 a day range to come find me and want to talk to do deals but the 100s are still there. I don't think there are many affiliate support people that would turn down 20 or 50 a day though.

i would hope affliate support wouldnt turn down 5 a day in this economy :1orglaugh

Well yeah, I will talk happily to everybody from the one a month guys to the 100 a day. On occasion the couple a days have needed some hand holding and then turn into a whale. So, no point in turning your back on anybody.

This should have been quantified at the beginning. When I talk whales, I'm talking 100 plus signups a day.

You might consider looking up Pareto's law. I'm willing to bet that for almost any given affiliate program, that somewhere around 20% of their affiliates make up 80% of their income. :)

I belive you can still ski yr round (in the summer) at mt hood.. about 1hr from portland... I think the Us Olympic team still goes there...

But whales sure are cool... I remember when JJ the Grey Whale lived at Sea World in San Diego while I was still a resident there. Otherwise known as the good old days... or the golden years of internet porn, whatever... then they let him go. Just like the programs let their whales go.

Call me Far-L, for I remember, in days of yore, affiliate whales were feasted and nournished by the great programs of yesteryear, and sailers rich from more than a thousand heads of verigris harvested from the mighty sperm whales put to port for drinking and whoring, forgot about those whales left over and released to a vast ocean of sales. Some found a pod to swim with. Some were eaten alive by killer whales. But Dick, the mightiest of all, and white as the fires of hell, still swims on yonder waves... waiting, wandering the high seas, still looking for a program to blow up.:winkwink:
