they don't need to do this, they can already figure this out by looking at credit/debit card transaction statements, as well when you pay tolls on roads, airline tickets, etc.

Have no doubt. Your state lawyer, judge, the police prosecutor and the even the court reporter are all work mates. They work in the same courtroom every day for 10 years. YOU are the new guy. You think the judge will side with YOU or the policeman?

Think of it this way. Should you lock away people who might be dangerous but you have no evidence, or let them free? THEY LOCK YOU UP ON SUSPICION. All it takes is someone to lay charges and the police do the rest.

I'm not saying it's wrong, if you're 90% sure someone is a mass murderer it's probably best to lock them away, but don't live in ignorance that being innocent is your keep safe.

This isn't a technology piece. Do you understand that sentence? Technology has existed for a long time that makes it POSSIBLE for you to be watched and followed.

This is a legal, government, and privacy piece. Just because they CAN do it, doesn't mean they've had the right to do it before, without a warrant.

I am realist and can see how surveillance might be needed, however I wish for it to be done in a legitimate way in a set rule of procedures and with justification for use of such invasions.

Normally I could care less. I have no fear of my privacy being invaded; I have nothing to hide. They can track me through my cell phone, and if not, they can gladly put a gps tracking device in my car. Whatever.

But sneaking up onto someone's property in the middle of the night, putting a tracking device on a car, and without a warrant? Whoa. Something's not right with that.

I've had cops crawl all over my property, front, back, sides, the works.... with no warrant whatsoever. They don't generally give a damn.

the fed or the CA state government is mostly useless..
they have such serious budget problems they need to battle, not a bunch of paranoid homos...
