I jumped ship cause your tech ignored fixing something and after a month I moved on...
I never complained cause I switched to a company without cogent. You should state which plans are cogent and which are verio.. :) |

"I left Phat cause I kept getting notices from tgps that my server was too slow. I am now using m3server which is not cogent and don't get any emails. " So what is it then? the emails? the trace? the tech? |

Shouldn't you have different prices on servers for cogent and verio ? |

No one has to complain, our Cogent servers are perfectly fast, and both networks have had excellent uptime for several months. Most of our customers are not concerned about what carrier their domains are on, as long as they load quickly and are always available. Our prices are the same across the board, so you can feel free to stop making assumptions about how our business is operated at your leisure. Whatever we can do to make our customers happy, we'll try and do. I'm sorry we couldn't make you happy, had you voiced your concerns I'm sure we could have. I see no support request from you within a month of the time you left , but when I call Cleo later tonight I'll see if she knows where it is. The bottom line is, as long as you're happy with your current host with whatever provider(s) they carry, that's all that matters. --- Mike W Head Tech Phatservers.net |
I've heard all the scare about Cogent is complete bull shit. If the host has the system and network setup properly, there should be no problems with Cogent at all.
Could someone please elaborate? |
Do a search on this board
if i am not mistaken there's a few great threads on cogent verus non |
I used to get a lot of decline emails for a slow server when I was hosting on cogent bandwidth. (It wasn't with Moose)
I sent a shitload of emails to tech support at my host and what they usually told me was that cogent was overloading one of their peers with traffic and it was creating a bottleneck. This happened a good 4 or 5 days out of the month, so finally I ponied up the dough for some better bandwidth. I'm not taking sides here at all, I'm just saying that I did have a similar experience to Honeyslut. I DID contact tech support at my host, however, they had nothing better to offer me. If you had contacted Moose I'm sure he would have done something for you since he says he's using more than one provider. |

As far as Cogent going broke, it's just not going to happen. It's been said here on thread after thread, and in my opinion is just scare tactics. Look at any number of other bandwidth providers, and I'm sure you'll see a number of them are in the red. I'm not looking to get into a flame war with any uber nerd's who want to tell me I'm full of shit, I'm just trying to explain something in terms that are easy for most people to follow. No matter what I say, people will form their own opinions about what sucks, and who sucks, and who sucks what. I can only shed some light on my own experiences looking at pr0n all day on Cogent and multihomed bandwidth without sounding too much like a nerd. |
I have been with phatservers for 6 months. Not one complaint excellent customer service.
|
Yep multihome is the way to go lately. Having another network to clean up routes when something goes wrong is the right way to do the hosting biz. I think the days of hosting companies that do 100% Cogent are coming to an end.
I also think many customers are having a hard time understanding peering and what some hosting companies are able to do now with BGP. It's better to have hosting companies optimizing across multiple networks then just one. It's also nice if they are in a location like PAIX where they can peer off traffic to other networks. Currently we are doing that with over 30 private networks and customers have been really loving it. Customers should be checking out if the hosting company has more then a couple of pipes to route traffic through. With that recent Time Warner issue and Cogent, there were alot of dollars lost for 100% Cogent customers. Fixedorbit.com is a excellent place to start researching your hosting companies network, and www.traceroute.org http://www.fixedorbit.com/AS/22/AS22781.htm Reliablehosting.com |
