i could be wrong but i believe the valuation is based on what others have purchased stock for. ms bought a few hundred million $$$ in stock, as well as others, thus the current valuation. analysts would have a hard time making valuations of privately held entities, books are closed for the most part.

+ fb did ~$1billion in revenue last year, 30-1 valuation is on the high side but well within standard accounting principles.
