The Maple Leafs’ unlikely playoff chase is through. Now it’s six months off to use the lessons of 2010-11 for a legitimate run at a playoff spot with a deeper team and not just another of their recent late-season teases. Taking the Washington Capitals to overtime Tuesday night in an eventual 3-2 shootout loss became meaningless when the Buffalo Sabres held off Tampa Bay down the QEW to ensure the Leafs could not get to eighth place. “I saw that score out of the corner of my eye,” said goalie James Reimer, who faced the out-of-town scoreboard, when not dealing with 41 Caps shots in 65 minutes and four more in the shootout. “I didn’t know if I saw it right and I didn’t want to look again. “We could’ve packed it in right there, the season’s over and said ‘screw this, the season’s over’. But that showed a lot of character on our part tonight that we controlled the overtime. It showed a lot about our team and I’m proud of the guys.” The loss sidelines the Leafs a sixth straight spring, but this time there’s reason to believe it wasn’t a blip when the playoff pressure was off. |

You are loyal to a mediocre team that charges top dollar to fans and advertisers. Keep being loyal, paying top dollar and you'll keep getting a mediocre team that won't make the playoffs again next year. Alternative = Boycott |

Well, as of last night's games the Leafs are OUT.
Nice double-shorthanded goal scored though in last night's game by Bozak, only other guy to do it in Leafs history is my man Darryl Sittler 31 years ago: http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2011/...bozak_history/ Calgary also, OUT. Nice hattrick last night by Iginla but sadly, they're again a no-show for the postseason. Habs have a clinched playoff spot. Bag on them all you want, they're in. Same with Flyers, Pens, Kings, and Tampa. Detroit, San Jose, Boston & Washington are all Division winners. Canucks = Wester Conf. Champs. I called Chicago very early-on in last year's playoffs, would like to see them go far this year as well but so far no spot clinched. Leaf's fans can see their heroes out on the links in the coming weeks. Signing autographs for their hapless loyalists will no doubt cheer them up. :D |

a better alternative would be to have external tournaments that go on during this time of year, instead of 'canada' vs 'sweden' (quotes for untrue rosters) in those weak ass tournaments they have over seas have unseeded nhl teams mixed with khl teams or swedish elite league teams in there... people would sell that out, at least in canada and europe anyway. I would bet that it would be better hockey than the regular season of the nhl. It works for soccer so why not? |

Reality is accepting where your team will finish and HOPING that they overachieve. Loyalty is the second statement...stupidity is the first. |

Canucks are looking good this year. 3 or 4 months ago I never would have guessed they'd be the odds-on favorite going into the playoffs.
