Been using 4.2 GM on the iPad for the last few days. Far more useful with the update. No need to knock the iPad for not supporting flash, I can't think of one single mobile device that plays and functions correctly with flash sites, outside of a laptop of course. 10.1 on mobile was horrible.

It looks great for reading but all those other things can be done on a 300 dollar laptop, plus you can text your friends, get some work done, watch flash and type without getting hand cramps trying to angle up to your ipad...

i don't know, i just don't get it. A touch screen would just slow me down from what I am used to.

My 9-year-old son was all about the Flash based games too, until someone sent me an iPad. The apps for kids are pretty amazing, and plenty of them are free. He also watches tons of YouTube videos on it (have you seen the very strange "Fred" channel?). My son uses it WAY more than I do. At this point I consider it a very expensive kid toy. :)

I'm waiting for an iPad with a "retina" display... Then I'm sold :)

Apple is in business to make money, and they make money by providing good products at good prices.

I bought my first iPhone 2 years ago and since then have purchased a Macbook, 2 x iMac 27", Apple Time Capsule and various other devices and am thrilled with all of them. Their support is also first rate which is just as good as the quality of their products in my opinion.

When one of my network devices died, I was talking to technical support within seconds of completing the phone call. When I went to the apple store to replace the item, a service agent tagged me with her iphone as soon as I walked in the door and within 10 minutes I was called to the Genius bar to discuss the problem.

Talk about fast, efficient and friendly.

Compare this to the shitty world of PC's. It takes hours to get Microsoft on the phone, and if your PC dies you have to hunt around for a part and then worry about compatibility, drivers and other nonsense.

It's too bad that you don't like Apple. You should really give them a second chance. They really earned my business and now loyalty. I spend my computer time working (and playing) instead of banging my head in frustration.

Hopefully soon the iPad will have a camera and FaceTime.

I have not powered mine up in weeks. That about says it all. It's just not for me.

i got it as a birthday present and its like a big iphone. i would have preferred a purse or something and just waited until the second version came out. hate to say it but im not a huge fan.

Use mine everyday... read all my ebooks on there, and of course Angry Birds :)

It's awesome. My most frequent uses:
- Viewing share prices and news
- Reading e-books
- Reading comics
- Watching TV on it
- a couple of other random apps

I don't game on it as much as I used to. Great device, I'm looking forward to the next generation with a higher resolution screen.

Flash would be great on the ipad because of games and videos.... not because of the 'net.

If normal Websites never had flash on them, it would be a huge improvement for the Internet.

Smart kid, I have to agree, it's pretty useless without flash.

I replaced my laptop with my iPad...I love it.

The people I know who bought an ipad when they first came out are still using it. I was surprised. Granted none of them are doing what I would call "real" work. They're playing scrabble and checking email.

It's STILL not available down here in Brazil. I can't wait to get it though. :(

Heh, that's funny , seeing how Apple is the very definition of a closed environment. Why should I limit myself to running only what Steve approves?

And don't mention jailbreaking. Why should I have to go through that procedure to run what I want on the hardware I bought?

My Gf's brother got one. I played around with it for like a week but I don't see any long term appeal. Apart from web browsing.

I'd rather get anything running android. The samsung tablet looks good.

Yeah. Microsoft should make Windows only accept Internet Explorer and Microsoft Office. Then claim it's for the "security and stability of the OS".

I feel crippled with an ipad. For almost all the functionality listed in this thread, my netbook does the job better.

I think devices like the ipad prove how unproductive the average person actually is on a daily basis.

The Android tablet coming out ($399) has facetime and a two-way camera.

That's the way I see it. It might be convenient for web browsing, but I don't see myself doing anything productive in it.

there are not good appl for ipad yet, you need to usee them in the iphone resolution.

I think I'm gonna buy the next generation. I do enjoy apple products, but I don't think that buying the 1st gen of any new device is a good idea. I'll let them tweak it, add the new features and buy it for the same price as the 1st gen
