I know we're talking about a mainstream forum so there's no competition, but are we allowed to post mainstream forum links here? There's one I visit almost every day. Depending on the area you're dealing with (affiliate marketing, email, traffic, design, etc) some of the sub-forums are very useful and you can actually make some good contacts.
PM or icq me if you want the link.

There are some great mainstream forums. Most are Russian owned and you must leave your flag at the door and all speak/post in English. It takes a bit and many posts will go unanswered but once you pitch in (and they grow tired of making jokes about you) they'll help you with anything or point you in the right direction. Russian people are funny because they like to see you suffer or torment you because it's like a right of passage? WTS, the last thing you want to do is piss off anyone and or back-stab there.

They are masters at finding solutions for next to nothing in cost. In short, I have the same server/web admin for the last 2.5 years and he can do anything or learns in heartbeat and I pay him $12 hour.

I've been working with the same Russians now for years and one hung-out with me in the States for a summer and I've been to all their homes or met them in Russia. Matter of fact, there is a once a year pilgrimage/convention in Sochi (black sea) that I've been to three years running.

Interestingly enough they are all (that I've met) brutally honest, hard working, and their hospitality is second to none.

...............So I'd start looking there.

And where is "there" ?

I always appear to find ones that are either too amateur or too up their own asses. Something balanced between the two would be welcomed.

dirtymind 12-01-2010 05:26 AM

i have never found any really right site that is complete.

Does anybody make money using squidoo or ezinearticles? I haven't heard of anyone actually making money from these....but that doesn't mean anything bc I don't know much at all! :-) Please do tell!

I tried some of the things described in sites like blackhatworld and never got anywhere. The only mainstream I have working is some good quality travel stuff which I originally put up as a hobby about where I live. Now has adsense on it and ticks over a small regular income. I would only need about 200 times more to replace my adult income.

I do agree there is room for an adult-webmasters-learning-mainstream forum. As adult webmasters we are not newbies about webmastering or SEO, but there is stuff we don't know about the marketing and the products.

dirtymind 12-02-2010 04:40 AM

well i have decided that i will put up such forum maybe today or tomorrow. See how it goes. But i will need all the help that can get.

This will be a friend forum to help each other not for get rich scams.

Guess you will have to hear it from some one or hit me up to get the url. Can't post it here.

The focus will be adult webmasters that would like to cross over and those that would like to help those out or have a real good product that will help them out.

If you have any input then you can mail me at [email protected] maybe you want to check out that domain the email is from :) :) :)

dirtymind 12-02-2010 08:50 AM

Prior the updates in ratings on Squidoo, there was a massive flaw in their rating/ranking system. Basically your lense's rankings depend on a few factors, one of which that paid a large role was your number of votes and your overall rating. Squidoo has ZERO IP PROTECTION. Also your accounts require no email authorization. You could signup for an account with a bullshit email address and rate a lense. Over, and over, and over again. So I put together a simple bot that automated this process. Another debatable metric used in ranking squidoo lenses is page views, so I was firing tons of junk traffic at my lenses for a while too.

Essentially I could put any lense I wanted into the top 100 for it's category in a couple of days by blasting it with 400-600 4-5 star ratings. After a while Squidoo would find them and devalue the lense, but you could make a new and have it in the top 100 again in no time. I have a few hundred lenses, at any one time while this worked I regularly had 40-50 lenses sitting in the top 100 for various categories, and I was making some good money doing it for a short period.

If you can build a good lenses and promote as you would a regular site, you can get some ok traffic to it internally via Squidoo, and you can make sales. With a little effort, Squidoo lenses can rank really well on low-mid level competitive terms too. I don't hear of many people making huge money strictly on Squidoo, but there's monet kicking around there.

JC, are you still using your xrumer? They've had some new awesome updates. Also check your CP.

I had purchased my xrumer license from another user, which is against botmaster's rules, so eventually my license got terminated sometime over the last year. Tried firing it up a while back and realized I took the hit. There is a new lightweight forum posting software on it's way shortly, that could or could not be a game changer for forum backlinking. Ther issue is that it is probably going to be dirt cheap, and put forum spamming in the hands of thousands of newbs. There's a uproar with a lot of Xrumer users bitching that this could kill the value of forum links when the ievitable flood of new forum spam comes about. I'm going to hold out and see what happes with this new app before I bother picking up a new Xrumer license. Might eve give that app a try to see how it operates for me. I have read a little about the new Xrumer options though, seems pretty slick. I can't see the new program being an Xrumer killer, but theoretically it could cause Google to take a second look at forum spammers. This app is coming from the same person partly responsible for the gigantic boom in blog comment spamming.

Funny thing people think: "Adult is all straightforward" yadayada. While in fact, the adult scene is the biggest bunch of backstabbers around.

inside webmastering is an adult forum that has a pretty decent mainstream section.

CYF 02-06-2011 06:11 PM

I just started a mainstream forum, too. I don't want to get banned for posting the link here tho... anyone know if it's allowed or not?

jkthedesigner 02-06-2011 06:17 PM

I've got one that I started with a few other prominent and upcoming SEO professionals who've ranked for things like "online poker" "online casino" "online blackjack" etc..

But we've been busy on a few new projects and the forum is lacking activity :/

Yeah, mine's focused on mainstream domaining, site development, and affiliate stuff. Not a lot of posts on mine yet either, it's hard to get forums started.
