I am trying to get up the guts to fire a gun. I have a basic knowledge of how to fire all of the weapons we have in the house (like were the safeties are, etc) but every time I get to the range I chicken out.
Guns really flip me out but I am accepting that it's something I need to get over so if I ever *need* to use one, which I pray I never do, I'll be fast enough and confident enough to make it happen.
If anyone has any reccomendations for a good pistol w/o alot of recoil lemme know. I don't want to get too girly and get something too small caliber that;s not going to stop someone. Out of the pistols I've held the one that feels the best in my hand is the Ruger P90.

Yes, thats a .50 cal. It kicks! not necessarily the butt of the gun, but the impact purely from the shell going off kicks anyone around it.
Your fear of guns is something that may bite back. Sure, be afraid of shooting someone or hurting some one on accident, but dont be afraid to grip and fire one. If you live like that then you may someday become a victim and are overall unsafe with a firearm. If nothing else. Handle them to learn how to handle them properly.
always in front. no finger on triggers unless you tend to use it. firm grip. be aware of your shell ejection. if using a hadgun, grip both hands and watch your thumb. be aware of sliding parts of the gun so you dont injure yourself while firing. Always be aware of your safety, on, off or in some cases, where its at on the gun. Try and use both eyes. Most people make some popeye face while aiming.... dont do that. Not with handguns.
Rifles... know where your muzzle is. point it down but dont ground it. Again, firm grip, use your shoulder.
Do all this and you will be more comfortable and more importantly, way more safe.
Last of all. Be confident when firing. Dont be afraid and second guessy. Dont be that girl wondering what its like and letting a pistol fly up and hit you in the face after pulling the trigger. HOLD THAT SHIT TIGHT!! Have fun when practicing :)
