Police arrest 11 year old for "inappropriate" stick figure drawing

http://www.kdvr.com/news/kdvr-arvada...,7099823.story

11 y/o gets arrested, handcuffed and put into a cell for drawing stick figures.

God bless America.

marketsmart 02-22-2011 02:43 PM

if that was my kid, i would be in the police car with him charged with assaulting a police officer...

.

CurrentlySober 02-22-2011 02:44 PM

I agree. He needs to be punished for drawing 'stick figures' at his age!

He's 11 FFS! I mean... Do a 'PROPER' drawing. Shading, depth etc all should be used. NOT just stick figures! Lets hope he has learnt a valuable lesson.

Tom_PM 02-22-2011 02:45 PM

Pretty sick state of affairs..

I'm thinking of a drawing of stick figures.......

Thats it.. Book him, Dano!

Phoenix 02-22-2011 02:46 PM

what country was this in?

Iran?

MaDalton 02-22-2011 02:47 PM

i was expecting to get rick rolled but... oy vey...

u-Bob 02-22-2011 02:48 PM

to serve and protect.... yeah right... I guess it's easier to go after 11 year olds than to catch the real criminals...

u-Bob 02-22-2011 02:50 PM

I guess they learned their lesson the hard way:

Interfering with staff and students? LOL.

Sounds like a few cops have too much time on their hands. I'm sure the public will be happy to know that, fewer coppers to pay.

alexchechs 02-22-2011 02:50 PM

This country is out of control. He is 11 and was told by his therapist to do this. People tend to overreact a bit in this situations. And if I was the parents I would sue the police and the school.

beerptrol 02-22-2011 02:51 PM

at least it wasnt for playing doctor. then he'd be labeled a sex offender for life

It looks like the school did nothing wrong either. So who called the police?

_Richard_ 02-22-2011 03:05 PM

yea that's a subject that is extremely sensitive, poor kid, should have known better.

kristin 02-22-2011 03:06 PM

Given what happens in schools today because kids are crazy, I think there is an appropriate time and place to be drawing stick figures of killing your teacher. Probably not in class would be an appropriate time.

Do I think he should have gotten arrested? No. But draw on your own time.

I wonder if the therapist feels guilty, he could be seen as an instigator.

and anyway Mr. Hand, i've been thinking about this whole your time vs. my time thing....

I did watch it and he said that he was drawing it in class.

If a kid is having these problems and needs to express himself during school hours then he should do it in the counselors office.

I had to have special stuff done for me because of my epilepsy and each time they had to cater to me with something the school normally didn't do, I had to go to the nurse's office.

I just don't understand what he could be arrested for, exactly. Isn't this false arrest? There was no probable cause here, no crime potentially committed.

Is drawing now considered a crime? Is there a law against content in art?

Altwebdesign 02-22-2011 05:09 PM

most inappropriate

d-null 02-22-2011 05:09 PM

they mention ADD, I wonder if they have the kid on drugs too, things are so fucked up these days :2 cents:

fatfoo 02-22-2011 05:18 PM

That sucks. It reminds me of the site http://www.stickdeath.com.

Mike Honcho 02-22-2011 05:23 PM

This countries legal system is spiraling down the toilet.

spazlabz 02-22-2011 05:47 PM

That is what I was thinking. Seems like some of the story is missing. If he went to the office they determined all was well and sent him back to class, how did the cops get involved?

See there is few things to take note here. One, the police can careless about violating anyone's constitutional rights to release themselves of any liability and two, now the family will have to "sue" to establish they had rights in the first place. Finally, when they win we tax payers will have to pay the settlement.

Bureaucracy at it's finest.

You have a great point. I have several friends that are cops and I hear all the time about how they do things just because they have to in order to cover their asses so they don't get sued or if they do they are covered. Sadly, these things cause a lot of common sense to get thrown out the widow.

carzygirls 02-22-2011 07:30 PM

Did everybody forget what happened in Colorado?

Lock him up... throw out the key.... at least for a week or so. Scare him straight...

He's not expressing himself you dummy! Disable your selective listening.

He's going trough behavioral therapy to help him deal with a problem by redirecting his mind to something else that focuses him so he's not disruptive in class!

Of course they could always drug him on Ritalin and fuck him up for life, which sadly is what might happen now, by an order of a judge no less. Poor kid
