Canadian webmasters suffering?

Hello,
I'm a Canadian webmaster and I'm waiting on several checks thanks to this ongoing postal strike. This postal strike has really affected my income. It's a little disappointing how many sponsors don't pay with Paxum or other electronic means.

Are other Canadian webmasters feeling the pinch? I called the US Postal Service and they told me checks are being held at the post office and not being sent. At least they're not getting returned.

Any fellow Canadians, feel free to post news on the postal strike here and vent your frustrations.

Working on a back to work legislation

"Bill C-6 was tabled on Monday by Labour Minister Lisa Raitt that will force the postal employees to return to work if passed. The bill is being condemned both for proposed wage reductions and in total by Opposition Mps who say it drastically weakens collective bargaining rights in general.

The bill is scheduled for debate in the House of Commons Thursday, but parameters for the bill’s passage must first be determined. It is anticipated that Conservative House leader Peter Van Loan will introduce a motion for closure.

Canada Post employees will continue to work on a settlement with Crown Corporation management while the bill is being debated."

Yeah, the NDP are going to try to delay it as long as they can. My only concern is that my checks are getting lost in the shuffle. Are all the sponsors still sending out checks to Canadian webmasters as usual? I sure hope so.

moeloubani 06-22-2011 08:15 PM

Yeah this is pretty lame for me here too, after epassporte shut down I switched the majority of payment options to check just because its so much easier knowing there will always be checks. So much for that :(

Hopefully things clear up in the next couple of weeks!

GTS Mark 06-22-2011 08:16 PM

Yeah it's a pain in the ass for sure!

Spunky 06-22-2011 08:25 PM

Postal workers should appreciate they still have decent paying jobs and settle up and end this before a arbitrator settles for them and less what was offered.

glocks 06-22-2011 08:37 PM

Does anyone else have checks being held in the system due to the postal strike? I'm worried about where mine are!

DaddyHalbucks 06-22-2011 08:41 PM

Wow, I am surprised to hear that in a socialist mecca like Canada.. big government would produce dysfunctional results.

Not.

glocks 06-22-2011 08:51 PM

Yes, everyone is expecting Canada Post to get back to work next week. I'm sure it'll happen. Does anyone know if the sponsors are doing anything different for sending checks to Canadian webmasters?

Rochard 06-22-2011 10:24 PM

Canadian webmasters are nothing more than a myth. They don't have the Internetz in Canada. Don't be silly.

glocks 06-23-2011 10:29 AM

It's being debated today but f'ing NDP is wanting to hold it up, even though it'll still get passed. Jeez. Do they not realize some of us Canadians are awaiting several checks from sponsors?

magicmike 06-23-2011 10:31 AM

Hopefully resolved by next week, then your bills can resume as well. ;)

fris 06-23-2011 10:40 AM

stick to wire then

To think, the adult webmaster vote is not high in the NDP's priorities. :upsidedow

Glocks, are you promoting us at all?

_Richard_ 06-23-2011 10:48 AM

BOSBucks pays with paxum and other electronic means! hit us up!

alias 06-23-2011 10:48 AM

Yeah, missing multiple checks, total clusterfuck. Having worked in the postal stream I can tell you when it gets turned back on it will be very delayed.

glocks 06-23-2011 10:51 AM

Alias, I would assume the checks that have been sent to me are in the post office facility, no? I hope they won't get delayed any more than they have.

do you even understand the definition of a socialist nation? We run things almost the same way you do, maybe if you slow down on the propaganda some and do some actual reading you'd understand a bit more clearly.

Sorting facility yes, just a huge backlog that will take time to process even if they use machines. You can bet the posties will be dragging their heels too.

ajrocks 06-23-2011 11:03 AM

I wouldn't be working with a sponsor that doesn't have more then one payout option. Everyone should have at least one online payout method option.

Alias, do you have any idea what's happening to the mail in the US that's supposed to be shipping to Canada? I was told the USPS is just holding the mail until it gets resolved but was hoping to get your input on if that indeed would be true.

Honestly no, but that sounds about right. :2 cents:

Fortunately, 90% of my income is direct payments, so the postal strike is not affecting me this way, but I did buy a MacBook Pro that was to be delivered by XpressPost (normally 2 days ..) on June 4th - and I am still waiting on it :( :(

Stop being so defensive.

You erroneously believe that I am attempting to put down your country to prop up my own.

To be clear, the US is in decline because of some of the very same government policies.

The US and Canada (and many other countries) are all suffering because of punishing taxation and big government spending AKA socialism. The bottom line is a global economic catastrophe.

Have you been following the problems in Greece and Portugal and, and, and..?

I just wish more sponsors actually had other electronics payment options beside "International Wire" which costs up to $30. Paxum please!

Actually if I can correct you a bit ... Canada's economy is actually doing pretty strong right now, with consumer spending up for 4 months in a row, and unemployment rates are down 3 months consecutive too!

Kenny B! 06-23-2011 12:01 PM

The postal strike is becoming a pain in the ass, more so that if it doesn't end by the first of the month I'm going to have to drive our affiliates checks to Plattsburgh and mail them from there.

Many people are suggesting that if you live near border towns that you use the USPS - and by doing so, its a bit of a slap in the face to Canada Post too - a way of protesting this labor dispute. :Oh crap

I have made the trek to Plattsburg a couple times already ...

hasn't military spending been the biggest expense in the states for some time now? do you consider that 'socialist' spending?

How would I receive mail from USPS if I live in Canada? Post office box?

The military is a core function of government. It is authorized by the US Constitution.
