If I get shot tonight......................

It's been a good run.

I'm gonna confront the guy in the white pickup truck who rummages thru my garbage every night before pickup day. I live in hickville USA so anything goes here. It's been fun guys..............

L-Pink 01-12-2012 06:44 PM

Just wire a claymore to the garbage can.

.

oscer 01-12-2012 06:50 PM

I have had to chase these people away ... Minimum issues i have seen here in Baltimore

I thought of boobytrapping a garbage can but that would land me in jail. Thing is it's not illegal to rummage thru peoples garbage. Still it's very creepy and definetly makes me feel violated.

epitome 01-12-2012 06:55 PM

When you see him doing it next time say "hey buddy, you must be down on your luck, come on in and I'll give ya a couple of dollars."

Once you get inside, run ahead, grab your gun and turn around and shoot him from within 2 feet.

At that point he was nothing more than an attacker in the eyes of the police.

(Do not actually try this at home)

alias 01-12-2012 06:55 PM

In cities the same thing happens constantly, this guy just sounds like a scavenger with wheels. Probably watched too much junk brothers.. .

bronco67 01-12-2012 06:57 PM

Why not take the passive aggressive approach -- and just put a live bear trap in the garbage, like a normal person would?

anexsia 01-12-2012 06:58 PM

Have that happen all the time here infact it was great when I put an old stove out to the trash and someone grabbed it not even an hour later. There's a couple people around here that regularly go through people's trash, that's just how it is...if they aren't coming on your property I don't see what the big deal is.

AllAboutCams 01-12-2012 06:59 PM

have a big shit on the top.

Now that's some outside the box thinking.

Phoenix 01-12-2012 07:03 PM

why do you care unless he is taking financial records or something.
guys come around here all the time...usually just for metal..they will take all the metal and leave...the ones around here are smart and leave the yards clean without strewing stuff they dont want all over the place

That's like that episode of the Simpsons where Homer gets a gun, and he's trying to lure Flanders in the house so he can shoot him.:1orglaugh

Poor guy's probably flat broke trying to make a couple bucks picking scrap out of the trash and he's about to shoot him.

I live in the woods, way way out of the way. No street lights, long empty roads, I hear this guys muffler every night before pickup day, then I look out the window and there he is digging thru my garbage. I dont mind people taking furniture etc I leave out. This is the MO of a identity thief.

baryl 01-12-2012 07:42 PM

Put a bunch of fake blood on some white sheets and throw them in your garbage along with some used rubber gloves and an old hammer

That's what concerns me, I shred everything but it is possible to miss something. And then theres this unauthorized $400 ach withdrawel to state farm on my bank account thing. I live in the sticks, its literally 1/4 mil from one house to the next all these homes are on 2 acre to 5 acre lots. This is not like in a city where houses on right on top of each other.

alias 01-12-2012 07:45 PM

Include some feces in the garbage bags that you put in your next garbage can. Set up a cam for added lulz.

"Wait 5 days????? But I'm mad now!"

JenniDahling 01-12-2012 07:48 PM

Perhaps he is a recycling freak who wants to make sure you're staying green while cashing in on your disposables?

Evil1 01-12-2012 07:52 PM

Got a car alarm with a remote/panic button? When he's out there, set it off, call the cops and go out the door screaming at him, wake all the neighbors up. He'll end up arrested, you'll have 20 witnesses and I doubt he'll be back.

Vjo 01-12-2012 07:55 PM

Very strange. I can see if he was going can to can in a city but this prob cost more gas than he gets metal or valubles.

Dont confront him. Dribble some pee in each bag bfore you take em out. With your climate that should smell great within a day.

raymor 01-12-2012 07:56 PM

Wouldn't hurt to get a license plate number before confronting him, in case he is doing something criminal or the confrontation goes bad.

Slight flaw in this cunning plan...... (read the thread)

Ok I should read more, in this case go commando, hide out behind some tree's, wait for him, when he shows and starts digging toss a C0² cartridge up his exhaust, it will blow that fucker clean off down the road once it gets hot enough. take a ride next day, see if ya cant find a piece of his muffler, next week leave it in your garbage with a note saying "it's only going to get worse"

RonTheDon 01-12-2012 08:03 PM

We live in a pretty nice neighborhood and it happens here all the time.
It's almost an unspoken rule to leave "take-ables" out of the bin.

In a rural area, I'd probably confront them and ask what they're up too. If they're recycling and were nice enough, I might set stuff aside for them so they don't have to dig through my trash.

There's nothing illegal about you putting some rigging up some lights or noise makers to your garbage. It's your garbage, you can do whatever you want with it.

If I had your problem I'd be putting my garbage out at the last possible moment.

Vjo 01-12-2012 08:17 PM

After all who hasnt grabbed something out of the community garb if you live in an apt long enough.

But driving around rurally and digging through bags that are mostly all paper and food garbage is very strange.

Takes a lot of balls for not much return (if he is only a dumpster diver for valubles and not a crook per se) plus he is burning gas at $3+ every 15 miles in a pickup.

L-Pink 01-12-2012 08:19 PM

For the hell of it I called the local police station. Basically ...

When you put your trash out to be collected and disposed of publicly, you are giving up the privacy of that trash. The only way the police will take action is if the person going thru the trash becomes a public nuisance, making a mess specifically.

.

BlackCrayon 01-12-2012 08:24 PM

one time i put some old computer monitors on the front lawn with a sign that said 'free - works great' in hopes that someone would take them and use them but some crazy garbage picker guy comes by and cuts the eletrical cords off the monitors making them useless. i guess he wanted the copper or whatever in them. i chased him down and asked him what the hell is wrong with him. he just said what..it said free. yeah free to take the whole thing, not cut the cord off making it useless and leave. i made him come back and take the useless monitors which he probably just threw away but goddamn, that guy pissed me off.

Yep I just did. I heard him coming down the street, jumped in a car and followed him and got his license plate. The back of his pickup was full of thrown away items. So it does not seem like he is trying to snag documents. So no need to confront him for now, but when I call state farm tomorrow and try to drag out who is putting a charge on my bank account, things might change.

porno jew 01-12-2012 08:32 PM

it's your fault for having such great garbage people will drive miles to go through it. you should be flattered.

Yeah I have heard the same thing from cops, however if the garbage is on your property you most certainly can trespass them for coming on your property. Cops will not want to do it, but if you insist they have to. If someone is digging thru your trash for docs at the very least they could be charged for criminal mischief if they were caught in possession of sensative documents.

I am not a garbage protecting snob, I leave shit out seperate of the garbage for anyone who wants it to take it all the time. But yeah I saw this guy pulled over as I was getting his tag number going thru someones elses garbage. A lot of guys own and or run their own construction companies out here, so maybe he finds a lot of good shit in the garbage. I don't know.

Spunky 01-12-2012 08:42 PM

I was just looking for something to eat bro :(

Vjo 01-12-2012 08:46 PM

Most dumpster divers go thru apt or commercial dumpsters. Never seen anyone methodically going thru residential.

Id want to know if he is also checking the neighbors down the road or just you. Plus is he digging thru obvious paper/food garb bags or just scanning you quickly.

Scanning you quickly.. then not as big a deal.

If your dumpster looks like the kitchen scene from Smuggler's Blues.... :)
