Can money really buy happiness?

Quote:

We often hear it, but how true is the phrase 'Money can't buy happiness'? Is there a correlation between the two, and if so, what can we learn from it? It turns out, if you think money and happiness are exclusive, you simply aren't spending it right.

When I make a lot of money I feel much more happy with life in general and it can go on for months. I can only speak for myself but when people say 'Money can't buy happiness' it's complete bullshit.

wehateporn 12-21-2012 05:28 AM

This sounds like the propaganda that comes before a rise in taxes :1orglaugh

IT sure would FUCKING HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#$#%@#% lmao

DWB 12-21-2012 05:52 AM

Hookers make me happy when I give them money, so there is truth to that video.

wehateporn 12-21-2012 05:55 AM

Let's look at four different scenarios:-

1. Being Given Money
2. Spending Money
3. Winning Money
4. Making Money

Number 4 can bring happiness, the rest less so :2 cents:

bronco67 12-21-2012 05:56 AM

That depends on whether or not you're an idiot.

bluebook18 12-21-2012 06:24 AM

money is the source of evil

JamesM 12-21-2012 06:34 AM

for short time, yes but in long run you need family, friends.....

seeandsee 12-21-2012 07:05 AM

I would be happy with lots of cash :)

Jel 12-21-2012 07:17 AM

money doesn't buy happiness, the same as being poor doesn't. It's such a fucking stupid phrase 'money doesn't buy happiness!' that it actually is one of the few things that infuriates me. You might as well go around saying 'moonshoes don't make your wallpaper fall off!' - it's that fucking dumb.

It's a phrase invented/repeated by people who are more on the side of making money some kind of 'evil' thing that should be avoided, so that they get to have more of it, while the peasants never expect/want/aspire to make real cash lest they get some BS cursed bad luck or some shit.

Dumb fuck statement on so many levels that it's not even a real question imo (that's not a dig at the OP btw, just my stance on this continually asked 'question').

spazlabz 12-21-2012 07:21 AM

I'm not sure if a LOT of money can buy happiness, but I am willing to give it a try

Minte 12-21-2012 07:23 AM

Many of the things you can do with money certainly are fun and make life more interesting.

Herb Kornfield 12-21-2012 07:30 AM

While happiness comes from inside you ... Money is sure nice to have when a shitty day hits and you want to blow off steam and party.

SuckOnThis 12-21-2012 08:24 AM

Anyone who says money = happiness has never had a lot of money.

Sure its great to head off to a different part of the world on a whim, or buy any type of car you want, or have people treat you well because they think you are rich but there lies the problem. You cannot fully trust a single fucking person besides your mom. I can't keep up with the friends I've lost because they couldn't handle the fact that my life had changed and theirs hadn't and backstabbed in one way or another. Same with most family members. If you're single yea just about every woman loves you, but they don't love you, they love your money. If you're married hopefully you have one of the few decent women (and there arent many) otherwise you're in for more hell when her, every one of her friends and family are trying to figure out a way to fuck you out of everything when things go bad. This is why people with a lot of money are distrusting pricks, because people by nature are selfish parasites and are always thinking in the back of their mind how to get theirs from you.

That depends on what makes you "happy".

If it's being loved and surrounded by friends and family, no. Money can complicate that.

If it's materialistic things, hookers, blow, traveling the world, and so forth.... yes.

:2 cents:

Agreed. Money has a way of effecting those around you. Not everyone. But many.

I think yes, if you equate happiness to peace of mind. But if you equate happiness to lots of expensive possessions and a flash lifestyle, then inevitably no.

Jel 12-21-2012 11:57 AM

money is a tool, nothing more nothing less. You might as well ask if hammers = happiness. It's a non-question.

Roald 12-21-2012 12:02 PM

I dont know but i’d rather cry in a Bentley than in a mazda

wehateporn 12-21-2012 06:51 PM

It's all about the timing with Propaganda, it's also about making it seem like it's just from some random dude on the Internet, but this is far too slick :2 cents:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-20810358

"Republicans will keep working to avoid the so-called fiscal cliff of tax rises and spending cuts, House Speaker John Boehner has said.

Earlier, right-leaning Republicans rejected a plan by Mr Boehner to raise taxes on higher earners."

My girlfriend says yes...In fact she cant get enough.. So now I'm broke and I like to stay that way. Just enough to keep the juices flowing. I like to think of her as the IRS and keep two separate set of books.

SpaceDoc 12-22-2012 03:00 AM

if you can buy weed , then yes money can buy happiness.

I'm no big baller and all my life I said money can't buy happiness, but now I know better.

Just got done with a 9 year relationship/marriage. Im supposed to be sad, right? But the sudden amount of extra money saved has made me happier than I've been in years. Pretty much blocked all sadness. We both work and never had any kids, but now with only my income I have a lot more money in my household and can have a lot more fun. It truly is amazing how that works. :pimp

That fucking bitch...

Dirty Dane 12-22-2012 05:24 AM
