"19-year-old man transported to Toronto hospital with serious injuries" CBC News Posted: Feb 21, 2013 1:41 PM ET "Four people have been shot in Whitby, Ont., and one victim has been transported to a Toronto hospital with serious injuries, according to Durham Regional Police. Police say they were contacted at about 12:31 p.m. today regarding a shooting incident on White Oaks Court, near Dundas Street and Cochrane Street. Officers responded and found four victims, who are now receiving medical attention. Whitby EMS workers said they received the first call about the shooting at 12:32 p.m. ET. Dana Saleh, a nurse who lives in an 18th floor apartment in the complex, says she was in her living room on Thursday afternoon when she suddenly heard sirens. "I step out on my balcony and I see basically the entire street and the entire court, basically, just flooded with police cars, cruisers, EMS ambulances," she told CBC News, adding that she saw at least three people taken out of the building on stretchers by emergency workers. Durham emergency workers confirmed that four people were taken to Rouge Valley hospital. Three of the victims were in stable condition, and one was in serious condition, according to Durham EMS. One victim, a 19-year-old male, was transported from the local hospital by air ambulance to Toronto's St. Michael's Hospital with serious injuries at about 1:30 p.m., according to Ornge air ambulance service. It received the call at about 12:45 p.m. Police have cordoned off the scene of the shooting, as officers search the area for suspects and speak to witnesses. It depends where you at. Vast majority of Americans do not have to deal with that. Wont get shot, won't experience a school shooting, wont get robbed, etc. No matter how many guns we have. Just like Toronto, it's mostly concentrated to the areas where you would expect it, we just have a lot more of those areas here. Entire cities with nothing for anybody, like Camden and Detroit. Of course if you get rid of the guns the gun problem will be less, but it wont go away. And since it's not a problem for the vast majority of us, I like the freedom to own one if I wanted. |
