Thinking about getting this car

My wife really doesn't enjoy shifting, so she never uses any of our other cars in the summer.
I am still on the fence about the new styling. It's an SLK 350

SIK 03-07-2013 12:42 PM

didn't drive the latest version, but I did try the older model
its "ok" but its definetly a woman's car

so in short, even though you said you're getting it for the wife - if you ever consider you'll be using it yourself, do some testing first (I'm a tall fella of 105 kg and I could barely move in it to scratch my nose, sucks)

other than that, you can't go wrong with a mercedes :)

Dirty F 03-07-2013 12:55 PM

Finally you are starting to get it! Now just buy the man version. SL500 or even better SL65!

Sid70 03-07-2013 12:58 PM

"Thinking"? Do you mean saving your work dollars for that junk?

I am certainly a big fan of MB these days. I was really uncertain last year about selling the E55 and getting the S-class. Now that i've had it 6 months, it's a fabulous car. So comfortable yet still very fast.

I know the guy well that owns one of the three sputniks that the Russians built. I bet he might sell,if the price is right.

Yea, I suppose I might have to flip a few more burgers before I can swing that thing.

That is a very nice looking little automobile, there.
It looks like one of those automobiles that will still stand out decades from now

Like this one http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/class...cedes220se.jpg

I think his question is, can you afford a private island? There's different levels of wealth.

Good point, I haven't driven one. My wife did last fall when we took delivery on the S-class.
She did like it a lot. My car tastes are king of eclectic. 3 days a week I drive an S to work,,then the other 2 days I drive a Smart car. Fitting in a small car is not a problem for me.

Don't ask me about the weekends.

Yes, that would be my choice.

Ross 03-07-2013 02:02 PM

Minte, have you thought about test driving the Panamera? I only hear good things about it, might be an alternative for the wife.

yuu.design 03-07-2013 02:15 PM

nice car dude!

sperbonzo 03-07-2013 02:46 PM

Have you tried the BMW 6 series? I would really recomend having her try the 640 convertible over that MB

http://www.convertiblecarmagazine.co...001.jpg?5ff238

If you are shopping, you may as well try it. Personally I think it's a better car.

I had one for just short of a year. It wasn't my favorite car. It's huge, yet the interior is not. The hood seemed like an aircraft carrier. Very, very fast great brakes, handled decently.

Obama probably shouldn't buy one. I hear he can't drive anyhow.
I pay cash.

She used to drive a 328cab and it was a nice car. I've driven a 6 series cab and it is a very nice car, but it's also really big. She drives our CayenneS now and wants a small 2-seater.

I'm 6'4". My idea of what constitutes a "really big" car is somewhat different I guess...

I used to have a 328i convertible. Really nice.

MaDalton 03-07-2013 05:33 PM

for a 2-seater it's a nice car - alternatives would be Z4 (i'm not a big BMW fan) or the Porsche Boxster (which probably costs significantly more)

and i think it looks fine

Sean 03-07-2013 05:43 PM

two seater roadster just for an easy drive, almost a sunday at the track versus a real saturday... BMW Z4 hardtop convertable

It's her choice. She didn't care for the Z4 and doesn't want a ragtop. The BoxsterS is higher priced than the SLK, but the standard Boxster came in a bunch less.

I'm a bit over mercedes.

Getting them worked on is a bitch.. I don't have a dealership anywhere around me. I've purchased 3 in a row.. but next time I'm going for a dumb Lexus. I had one years back, never gave me a single problem.. easy to work on and cheap.

Mike Honcho 03-07-2013 08:31 PM

I honestly mistook the new SLK for an SL. Very, very sharp looking car.

There's only one car that comes close in comparison and that's
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--DvqY5EohO...oxster-S-6.jpg

The Boxter S, but as you previously stated, it is more expensive and is also a rag top.

Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with the SLK, not only will it match your S Class, but It'll be fun for you to take out too. Not to mention if you get her the manual, she might get better at certain things.

Get it if you can, it's a great car for sure.

man, i usually agree with a lot of your stuff (and i even admit it in public), but this "women" car thing is usually only posted by people with serious self confidence issues.

if we were talking about the Beetle i might even agree but i bet you never drove an SLK, Z4 or Boxster...

and if the public image of an car - created by people who can't afford them anyways usually - keeps you from driving it, it's your loss :)

i'd take an SLK anytime (prefer the Boxster though) and i know i'd have a lot of fun driving it

No, i've never driven a slk. I did however own a SL600, like a real man :1orglaugh
