Michael P of QWEBEC Expo inside.

My contact form is not a place for you to spam your expo shit. It's meant for clients and potential clients.

Want me at it? Pay for a plane ticket, and all expenses, otherwise, stick to a proper double opt-in newsletter and not spamming your bullshit.

I don't approve of, support, or engage in any spamming activities... I have a newsletter on my site and it collects emails, double opt-in and I don't even have a way to send emails to them yet...

I expect better from someone like Michael, not to spam a developers contact form. It has captcha on it, so he had to manually do it too, that makes it even worse.

Sly 06-27-2013 09:43 AM

This is a cold call. You should see how many I get. Not a big deal, and you never know what business you can pull out of them.

Next time just delete it.

The CAN-SPAM Act defines commercial messages as those that primarily advertise or promote a commercial product or service. The FCC’s ban does not cover “transactional or relationship” messages -- that is, notices to facilitate a transaction you have already agreed to -- for example, messages that provide information about your existing account or warranty information about a product you’ve purchased. The FCC’s ban also does not cover non-commercial messages, such as messages about candidates for public office, or email messages that you have forwarded from your computer to your wireless device (but read below about the FTC’s rules that may restrict such messages).

Federal rules require the following for commercial email sent to your email:
  • Identification – The email must be clearly identified as a solicitation or advertisement for products or services;
  • Opt-Out – The email must provide easily-accessible, legitimate, and free ways for you to reject future messages from that sender;
  • Return Address – The email must contain legitimate return email addresses, as well as the sender’s postal address.

According to the laws, he has not done 2 of the 3 requirements, that my friend is spam... And he only qualified for the first one because the subject isn't settable on the contact form, so I gave him that.

I find it funny that so many people here are all "just delete it" when it comes to laws being broken regarding spam, but heaven forbid a site has full length videos on it, and follows legal requirements regarding DMCA... :upsidedow

Yes it was manually.

I truly apologize if I offended you.

Just trying to bring the most people for the benefit of everyone coming to the event.

I will never contact you again... Promise... Sorry again :thumbsup

baddog 06-27-2013 09:50 AM

I would complain to his upstream provider if it bugs you.

I've been part of this industry for many years... I know what QWEBEC Expo is... I don't need you clogging up my contact form meant for my customers.... Would you like me to send you unsolicated emails to [email protected] about everything I do? Of course you wouldn't.

Nah, this was a thread meant to let him and the public know that it's not acceptable to spam people. Period. If it did bother me that much, I wouldn't complain to his upstream provider or even had made this thread, but would have just contacted the FCC right away.

jgabra62 06-27-2013 10:01 AM

It's a damn good show though...

You're right, I can't enforce US laws in Canada, but a quick lookup of Canada's CAN-SPAM Act shows that it's much more strict than the US, meaning I have to express to him that I want him to send me his marketing... Whereas in the US you only have to provide those 3 things mentioned in my previous reply.

But hey, go ahead and tell people to get over someone breaking the law, all while bitching about legal websites. :upsidedow

Anyway, this thread can die now, Michael saw it, and my point to him was conveyed. :thumbsup

I'm going back to coding, enjoy your day. :winkwink:

Fat Panda 06-27-2013 10:11 AM

fucking spammers. nothing shocks me anymore

Jman 06-27-2013 10:12 AM

So Dankasaurus was successful in showing to all he as 0 tolerance for a hard working member of this industry and needed to cry wolf about 1 single introduction email.

Good job dood... hope you feel big and tall now :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

MichaelP 06-27-2013 10:13 AM

OK for the record, and not tryin to defend myself,

Yes I spend the morning sending that one email to some people I found here on GFY.... Amazing how some people never heard about us even after 10 years. Also sometime people forget the dates and book something else.

If you received the email and are not happy with that, please kindly reply with 'REMOVE', I'll understand.

It is not my intention to send multiples mails to everyone anyway.

My genuine apologies again :thumbsup

ha ha dude I will tell you this...murders here go to jail for a couple years here...the last fucking thing that is ever going to be enforced here is a spam law :2 cents:
and the absolutely last place in Canada that they are gonna take an American serious is Quebec. Hate to tell you this buddy but nobody give a fuck.

So Jman doesn't understand CAN-SPAM Appliance, and allows a "stand up bro" to break the law, but thinks fully legal sites are bad.

You people need to learn about proper CAN-SPAM Appliance and how to keep your own companies in the green, because most of you don't understand it and aren't even compliant.

Michael, since you're the only one who understands the reason I made this thread, I do want to thank you. But just to let you know, unless I had specifically said "yeah send me that email!" or had signed up for your newsletter, what you're doing falls under CAN-SPAM as illegal... Which could be pretty harmful to your business if enough people report it as spam, and people really do... Especially with the easy 1 click button that Google offers in Gmail to flag that email as spam. Your name, business, website, and ip addresses are all flagged...

Bman 06-27-2013 10:19 AM

Just so you get it through your thick head most spammers, tube owners, cc bangers...are from Canada. There is a reason for that cause the laws dont apply here and nobody gives a fuck.

Shouldn't you be in the buy and sell section selling content packs for $99 so you can afford to pay your way into the races?

jgabra62 06-27-2013 10:28 AM

I have a feeling this thread is going to help bring at least 10-15 more people to the QWEBEC Expo...well done guys, and I'll see you all there! :)

This is not a guy trying to sell you bs.

Of course Dankasour won't ever find that out

So there is no chance, you could sell one of your products to a show attendees, affiliate, program owner ?

Or maybe recruit a few more affiliates, since you have a program ?

Just sayin' :thumbsup

Not worth the cost. I can network just as well through my current and future clients... No need to pay a $250 fee for an event, on top of round trip tickets, hotel stay, and cost of everything else... 12 years without ever going to an event, I have no real want to go anytime soon... Actually I am wrong, I may go to Vegas next year mostly to meet up with some long time web buddies and because I have friends in Vegas so the cost is really cheap.

Correction : 250$ is for a Meet Market Table including one badge. (up to 2 additional badges for tables exhibitors @ $100 ea.)

Registration is only $160. probably the lowest in the whole circuit.

Now for those interested, let's do some maths :winkwink:

1 badge = $160
1 Table including 1 badge = $250
only $90 for the table

2 Badges = $320
1 Table including 1 badge = $250 + 1 additional badge @ $100 = $350
only $30 for the table

3 Badges = $480
1 Table including 1 badge = $250 + 2 additional badge @ $100 = $450
:thumbsup
you save $30 and have the table

Plus $800 round trip plane tickets to and from Montreal, A decent hotel will be about $100 or more a night, so that's an extra $500... So I'm paying $1500+ for something that I can do for free... That's not counting no work being done for 5 days...

I see shows like I seen college... I could go to college, pay all this money and meet good people, experience things... Or I could just skip college, and spend that time making money instead of spending money, and still get the same out of it.

I've been a programmer for 14 years, I have more skills and knowledge teaching myself than my buddy who graduated college for computer science... He has a $30,000 debt to the college, while I've made more than that in a single year...

I guess if partying and talking face to face with people who may or may not be customers is your thing, go ahead... But like I said, 12 years experience without it, I am content.
