Oh Windows 8 I fucking Hate You

So I bought my fab new PC, pre-installed with Windows 8. Being the Dipshit I am I didn't read reviews about the new operating system, just the PC.

I got it home, set it up and was like WTF.

Honestly, I have been "trying" to use it for the last 6 hours or so and it's a pile of shit.

I bought this machine to improve my productivity, the way things are going MS are gonna need to pay me.

I even tried to install classic desktop and disable metro suite but guess what, it also disabled by internet. Deleted it and it's fine again.

Unless you have used a windows 8 with a mouse you won't understand how bad it is.

BTW, I am using my old Vaio to write this.

MrBottomTooth 10-06-2013 02:11 PM

Classic shell is free and fixes most of its issues.

nexcom28 10-06-2013 02:18 PM

It's not just about not having a start menu.

Agreed, that is a pain and I did try classic shell but as I said it fucked my internet connection up, I had to remove it just to get the internet working again.

I spent 1/2 an hour just getting Chrome to run properly..

nexcom28 10-06-2013 03:06 PM

1. Why can I not close or minimize browser windows?

nexcom28 10-06-2013 03:09 PM

2. Why is that when I install a program (VLC) I ge a bunch of shortcuts added to the start menu that I don't want. You just clutter it up.

facialfreak 10-06-2013 03:50 PM

Windows 8.1 is due out on October 18, and will be a MAJOR UPDATE, and supposedly Microsoft claims they've listened to their clients complaints with Windows 8 and have addressed the most common ones .... including the start menu issue.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/preview

I have a thriving business in my retail computer business DOWNGRADING people who don't like Windows 8! I would say currently, as many as 1 in 4 of the machines in for repair, are to downgrade Windows 8 ...

I buy "AS-IS" machines with Windows 7 Home Premium and Professional licenses very cheap on eBay, and install Win7 on their machines with clean Digital River MSDN downloads .... Windows licenses are 100% transferable.

MrBottomTooth 10-06-2013 03:54 PM

I'm not sure how you installed classic shell but you shouldn't have to look at any of that crap once it is installed. You might have to change some of the file type settings so files don't open in the new "app" versions of programs, which are completely baffling to me. My win 8 system behaves essentially the same as win7 now.

sandman! 10-06-2013 03:55 PM

there is nothing wrong with windows 8

personally i prefer windows 7 tho

winter_ 10-06-2013 03:55 PM

the windows 8.1 patch should improve the interface. i actually want to try ubuntu. ubuntu is linux, the penguin.

nexcom28 10-06-2013 04:01 PM

I have a disc with Ubuntu n that I was going to install on m old PC, my intention was add it to this..
Its sooo bd, really.

Wh is it missing my keysrokes?
Wht is there no scrol bar on Chrome?

MaDalton 10-06-2013 04:07 PM

i intend to use Win 7 until MS understands and adds the Win 2000 clean desktop to any future Windows without any additional nonsense as an optional interface

I agree with you on that.

I am very productive on a machine running win 7 and lower. Win 8 was designed for touchscreen devices which is fine for tablets BUT it just takes away functionality from those who actually work on a pc and use a mouse.

Just try Photoshop with a touchscreen for example... :(

i understand it still works with a mouse and that i can avoid Metro mostly.

but when i tried it, it forced me to create an account for their app store.

when i installed the Skype app, it worked only full screen - what nonsense is that to have Skype fullscreen on 1920x1080? I am not that blind.

i dont want any "hot corners" or whatever that was

i just fucking want the interface of Win 7 while taking advantage of the technical updates under the hood of Win 8 - how difficult can that be?

sandman! 10-06-2013 06:07 PM

well you fucked up something i use skype on windows 8 works exactly like it does in windows 7 you dont need to create any account in their app store to install normal software.

i have office/acrobat/photoshop everything i need installed on windows 8

Why do people still bother with Windows? Save yourself headaches, heartaches, stress and a whole lotta time: http://www.Apple.com

FlowerKid 10-06-2013 09:49 PM

Also Apple changes their UI from time to time. Are you guys 100 years old so you can't adapt to some changes in an operating system? Please stop whining.

You see you are a prime example of the brainwashed consumer that has caused the decline of western civilization. Almost gotta be spending money..consume consume. Try to buy immortally and control. Well, I have some bad news for you sunshine...it doesn't make you immortal or give you any control.

Repeat after me: "New is NOT always better."

Next: "If it isn't broken - don't fix it."

There, now you hopefully have learned something.

You're welcome! :thumbsup

That's exactly why I stick with Windows and disliked the default interface of win8..
I hate change. No way I want to learn a new system. I can tear a pc apart with my eyes closed but I know nothing about Apple.

Because they don't want their wallet raped plus have to buy new software all over again.

Install Classic Shell---its free and near perfect.

Then you have a solid, working, great OS.

Yeah, same. How hard is to put a close button on an app or page.

so your solution is for someone to get a completely different operating system where they have to learn everything? And it's not like the Mac is problem-free either

jigg 10-07-2013 04:06 AM

mobile apps have no close button, Metro is a touch-first interface. You'll get used to it. I wanted to smash my monitor when I first got on Windows 8 but got used to it rather quickly.

Windows 8.1 is coming in 10 days, on the 17th via free update, and fixes a lot of issues people had and complained about. There will be another update around March as well.

You also don't have to sign in with a Microsoft account, I use a "local account" and then separately signed-in with my Outlook account in the app store.

vdbucks 10-07-2013 04:19 AM

Guys, it's not that hard... it's really not. Stop looking to be hand held and start looking for your own solutions...

There are several start menu programs out there... classic shell, pokki, start8 and a few other.

There's even a program to make those modern UI app windows 'normal'... it's called modernmix

So, spend the $8, pick up start8 + modernmix and be happy.

Or... continue bitching and moaning on gfy about not being hand held by a company and it's OS who are obviously looking towards the future and not the past.

And before someone decides to say it... I'm not a windows fanboy. I don't even use windows. It's just that Windows 8 isn't nearly as bad as all the bitching and moaning makes it out to be, and 2 simple apps can turn Win 8 into a superior Win 7 for those that have such a huge problem with the new direction MS is taking...

the only question i have: Why would i need to try around with various 3rd party apps when MS could make it really easy and simply offer a classic mode - since obviously everything is still there, just hidden.

it's the unwillingness to listen to customers and react to their wishes that kills companies - see Blackberry as the last popular example

Few months later they became Canadian

The answer is simple... if something doesn't work the way you want it to or think it should, you have 2 choices... make it work, or stomp your feet and bitch about it.

And of course MS caught a lot of heat for this move... considering they drastically changed things and took huge risks in order to try and bridge the gap between their desktop and mobile platform.

You are mistaken however, the "normal" start menu isn't still there hiding in the background. That's what those apps are for. Same with the modern ui app windows... there's no background way to make them behave like normal app windows. You see, the developers of those apps took something that consumers like you think should be there, and made it so...

Windows 8 worked just fine on my desktop when I had it installed.. Sorry you're too incompetent to work around problems you encounter though.

yeah, well, i have like 10 PCs with Win 7 and a win 2011 server running here and everything works fine - no need for further experiments until something happens that forces me to deal with it again :)
