Just got a wire transfer of $200,000 from bitstamp for some of my bitcoins

bank teller asked me who the hell sent me $200,000 from slovenia

I started telling her that I had received an email from a fairly high ranking member of the USSR politburo who was asking for assistance in retrieving proceeds of underhanded Jewish dealings from the fall of the soviet union.

she looked faintly horrified.

I then told her that I was joking and that it was proceeds of sales of a made up internet currency called bitcoins, and that it would likely eventually spell the end of the banking system as we know it. And with that, I left.

Some of it. I just want enough money to buy a little apartment if it all craps out. I'm not selling any more for less than $1k each.

In today's bitcoin news, obama asked google CEO eric schmidt whether bitcoin is "anything to worry about", while 5 bitcoin ATMs were installed in canada

You do realize that until the WORLD BANKING SYSTEM officially recognizes bitcoins as currency, you're playing with fire right? All you need is a room full of bankers or international finance and/or governments to declare it's not a currency, make it illegal, and it's use money laundering then it's game over.

:2 cents:

HookUPcom 10-29-2013 09:30 AM

I don't think that would make it game over at this point... I think it's got legs at this point.

Until the federal government(s) or international banking system sign off on it, than it's a risk.

Legs? Sure. But that's not enough based on the way the current system is structured.

I would have asked her if its company policy to ask people about their money and if not that perhaps she should just mind her own business and continue with processing my bank business for the day.

The last thing you want on your hands is some nosey fat bank teller bitch who has nothing to do all day but sit on her ass and make change and gossip with the other fat bitches working the counter....about your account.

It's dumb bitches like that who run their mouth trying to be more important than they are.....when regulators and inspectors come to the bank ..."Oh, we had this guy who had $200,000 in money transffered from Europe.

I have a better idea. Put my money in that little envelope and focus on the hard things of your job....like trying to figure out what flavor dum dum pop I want with my money..

Yeah, because governments have a long track record of allowing their power base to be eroded.

Get real.

Not really. In sixth grade when they pull all the boys out in health class to watch "the movie", they should just hand you a pamphlet that says "The only time women quit talking is when you put a cock or food in their mouth." Even then, they manage to still talk and say shit like "It's too big" or "I can't breathe"...

Scott McD 10-29-2013 11:42 AM

Bitcoin threads without Franck just aren't the same...

jscott 10-29-2013 11:43 AM

I sold out too, hoping it'll have a mini-crash so i can buy back

I want to be involved when it hits $1k/each. China, Canada and lots of other countries are joining in on giving BTC some lovin', not sure why so many people think/say USA banks/gov can stop BTC from being worth anything

...remember guys, USA is a country, it's not the world :)

jscott 10-29-2013 11:44 AM

...oh, btw, Lychen, nicely done man!!!!

Markul 10-29-2013 11:48 AM

Well, you recommend treating a teller like shit, telling her to mind her own business then saying it's "dumb bitches" like her that will probably fill out a suspicious activity report.

Treat someone like shit while they are just doing their job and yea reports will get filed. Cause and effect.

Based on your above post I have to ask, are you related to Mr Maxwell?

The USA controls (strong arms) almost the entire banking world. As BTC gets regulated, it will have to fall under whatever rules set by the USA and anyone else who wants to chip in. It is up to the powers that be to decide if BTC survives or not. I have BTC and accept them as payment for some of our sites, so I'm not a BTC hater, but that is the reality of the situation. Unfortunately, the USA carries a big bully stick.

I guessed you missed the point. Tellers asking you about your business on how you make your money isn't their job. She's choosing to let her personal curiousity interfere with her job. Their only job is to process your transaction. You don't have to explain shit to a bank teller. If there is an issue on the validity of your transaction, its the bank managers job. Even then, its only their job to inquire about the validity of the funds available for the incoming transaction. Not to inquire about how you make your money or the reasons why you are receiving your money.

There is nothing rude about telling somebody to mind their own business and that your private matters are none of their business. What is rude is thinking that your job entitles you to be nosey into your customers banking affairs, just because you facilitate their money movement.

No, you missed the point. Being rude and short with someone who can make your life miserable by instigating a suspicious activity report is just plain stupid. Be polite, bite your tongue, take your business elsewhere next time is the only way to handle that situation. You would be surprised the shit storm one little teller can make. Especially with a 6 figure check from a foreign country.

But then if you want to play tough guy and put her in her place go right ahead.

Well I guess your point is to put your tail between your legs and be an ass kisser.

My point is to stand up for yourself and not let people walk all over you constantly and make you the person who always has to give in or find an alternate solution because your too worried about what people think.

Act like you have a damn pair occasionally...the secret to life is knowing whose ass you have to kiss and whose you don't.

Quit being a tough guy.

Bank tellers are trained to notice certain behavior and transactions. Part of training is listed below …….

"Common" forms of suspicious behavior"

*THE CUSTOMER REFUSES TO EXPLAIN WHAT HE OR SHE IS DOING, AND IMPLIES THAT THE TELLER HAS NO BUSINESS BEING CURIOUS.

I'm not an ass-kisser, I'm not a tough guy idiot either. Your exact immature behavior is one of the main tells for filling out a suspicious behavior report!

Tim take a read over the new 2007 anti money laundering regulations for the US & EU, it's a terrifying read.

These days if you start giving an attitude or start asking the teller why they are asking you questions about your money it's considered a red flag and the scenario MikeFold posted above begins :disgust

Has nothing to do with being a tough guy or being immature. That's the whole problem nowadays. Everybody thinks everybody else's business is their own. You've got a whole generation of young people who think they are entitled to everything and run their mouth about what everybody else is doing on Facebook because nobody ever put them in their place or taught them manners.

I was raised not to pry into peoples personal affairs. If they want you to know something, they will tell you. I raise my son the same way. Keep what you want to yourself. You're not under any obligation to tell anybody anything you don't want them to know. People will try to pump as much information out of you as possible if you let them and for the most part they do it to use it against you...

Learn to keep your mouth shut...on both sides of the fence....
